Thomas Called Jesus, My Lord And My God. Jesus Didn't Say, I Am Not God. by Ken4Christ: 10:42pm On Apr 18
Muslim scholar wants a proof where Jesus said he is God. The exclamation of Thomas is one of such proof. When he saw Jesus after his resurrection, he exclaimed;

John 20:27-28
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

If Jesus is not God, he would have told Thomas, please don't call me God.

What other proof do you need to know who Jesus truly is?

Read the passage again. Thomas said to him (Jesus), My Lord and my God. It wasn't just an exclamation into the air. He directed the statement to Jesus.

If according to MAX's narration the person said Oh My GOD!, holding and facing the accident victim, are you alright? It is necessary to say hey friend, I am not your God but I am fine now

At seeing him Thomas exclaimed not that he's calling Jesus his Lord and God because in the same chapter Jesus told a disciple to go and tell others:

“Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’” John 20:17

Now try to correlate the above with what you think Thomas meant.

Jesus said his father is our father and his God is our God! undecided

It happens in many cultures sometimes when people see things that amazes them they will shout:
"My Lord and my God!"
It doesn't mean that what they saw is their God nah! smiley

Do you not see the similarities between this and Greek mythology. Perhaps this is where the connecting transformation takes place.

In the Gospel of John where Thomas refers to Jesus as "my Lord and my God" (John 20:28). This statement by Thomas has often been used by Christians to affirm the divinity of Jesus. However, it is interesting to note that throughout the New Testament, Jesus himself refers to God the Father as his God. For example, in the book of Revelation, Jesus says, "I ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God" (Revelation 20:17).

Isn't this a contradiction where the one referred to as God refers to another. Is the truth if any not that Thomas made the declaration as a statement of faith rather than a direct assertion of Jesus' divine nature?

It is worth mentioning that in Greek mythology, gods and goddesses were often depicted as having their own hierarchies and relationships with one another. For example, Zeus was considered the king of the gods, while other deities such as Athena and Apollo held their own positions of power and authority. This complex pantheon of gods and goddesses in Greek mythology contrasts with the monotheistic beliefs of Christianity, where there is only one true God who is worshipped and revered.

In light of this, the passage in John where Thomas calls Jesus "my Lord and my God" can be seen as a recognition of Jesus' authority and divine nature, rather than a literal assertion that Jesus is the one true God. It highlights the profound relationship between Jesus and God the Father.

Does the fact that you have a boss you report to makes your boss more human or more man than you?

Put in another way, Jesus is a God being. He is God in very essence and nature. He only took up a human form to die for us.

Some of the statement credited to him revealed his Deity.

He said, before Abraham was, I Am.

He said that whoever has seen me as seen the Father.

The Jews knew he was placing himself in the same class as God when he calls God father. No one ever did that.

What about where he said, 'I am the first and the last'. No ordinary human can make that statement.

No matter how much your boss bestows on you there is always the difference between the two of you.
You remain in service to your boss and can not assume the powers he has over you.

I agree. But the relationship between Jesus and His Father is such that he has committed all things into his hands. He has given him all authority in heaven and on earth.

The Father still has one exclusive responsibility that I know of. For example, prayers are offered only to Him but it must be said in the name of Jesus. You know what it means to attend to billions of prayers daily. That is huge responsibility.

While Jesus maintains an oversight over the universal church. Hence, the scripture says that Jesus is the head of the Church.

So borrowing your description of Father meaning God need help attending to other things within his dominion outside prayers.

Your comment is senseless. God can do all things. What is wrong in giving others opportunity to do certain things including his son. Is it not stupidity for a father to have children all around him and he does all the house chores and said the children shouldn't do anything. Is this how you want to run your home?

If that were true, we might see many atheists within the Christian denomination, as Jehovah's Witnesses aren't the sole Christian group that doesn't believe Jesus is God.

Really? I have never seen nor heard any other bible carrying group both offline and online make this claim. And remember, this is not the only claim they hold inspite of the clear pronoucements in the bible.

Then, secondly and the most important psrt of my calling tbem atheists and devils is that they do exactly all the things atheists do when arguing.

Eg we have just seen him twist and bend the scripture and then put forth an argument in line with the twisting in complete ignorance that people know Truth when they see or hear it, as atheists do. In addittion to tbat, they Lie and are always ready to lie to make a point or defend it. They even go as far as blaspheming God to make a point. Eg see this fresh one

MaxInDHouse:

Abeg ni vex it's just a discussion and if you believe what people say then i too believe what people say that after they died they went to heaven and saw both Jesus and Satan, Jesus dancing hallelujah while Satan is roasting some people for suya all nah heresay! smiley

Sometimes, you see them clearly align and fully support atheists in attack on God values.

There isnt't any evil which atheists do when they are arguing that jws dont do, which no Churchgoing and christian people does.

If God can do all things why then does he need to delegate? Can this your concept of God really do all things then?

Certainly:

I encourage you to interact more with Christian individuals outside your church. Even within your church, someone may hold a similar belief. I'm aware that Jehovah's Witnesses aren't the only Non-Trinitarians. Personally, I've witnessed a member of the Winners' Chapel and another from the Redeemed Christian Church of God engage in a heated debate on this topic. Their disagreement was so intense that they've since ceased communication. Being part of a specific church doesn't necessarily mean endorsing all of its doctrines and teachings. For instance, I have a Catholic friend who vehemently argues against the divinity of Jesus.

I speak to everyone reasonable and decent enough to be spoken to and i never attached to any church bco i know that God is not confined to any church so my interaction with different people is very wide. And as usual with humans you would definitely find a catholic who is anti catholic but the bottomline is let the Word of God rule in Truth, which is all i am about here and offline.

Fellow Muslims, we may argue back and forth on whether Jesus is God. But only a very dishonest Muslim will deny the divinity of Christ, It's just too obvious.
