Nigeria’s Super Eagles are about to undergo a major change as their new head coach will be named in the next one to two weeks, according to the nation’s minister of sports, John Enoh. After Jose Peseiro’s term as head coach ends on February 29, 2024, this announcement leaves the national team without a permanent captain. According to reports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) attempted to extend Peseiro’s contract after the team’s impressive 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) second-place result. Negotiations, however, broke down because of the Portuguese tactician’s wage demands. Finidi George, the coach of Enyimba, is leading the squad in the interim as head coach.
