The 5th edition of Egba Youth Football Championship has kicked off with a mouthwatering results from thrilling encounters in the match day one of the competition.

Gbenga Olubode got the first goal of the tournament for the debutant, Oluwole boys against Mighty Stars in the first game of the competition played at the Muda Lawal Stadium Asero Abeokuta.

Olubode's 65th minutes strike from the spot was enough to give the coins boys the maximum points.

Rafiu Yusuf's brilliant strike in the 37th minutes gave Debash FC the victory over Ajegunle All Stars in the second game of the competition.

The third game of the tournament produced four goals with Toyosi Popoola recording the first brace of the competition. Toyin Amuzu defeated United FC by three goals to nothing while the fourth game between Gbench Achievers and AR United ended two nil in favour of the Achievers.

Speaking with Journalists, the commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Wasiu Isiaka commended the organisers of the Egba Youth Football Championship for their consistency and encouraged investors, private individuals to tow the line of the organisers of the competition.

Hon Isiaka who noted that government could not shoulder the responsibilities in the development of sports alone, reaffirmed the present administration's readiness to continue to encourage stakeholders to key into various government's programmes in repositioning sports especially football.
