When attempting to take a cellphone out of a pit latrine, a man, his son, and another person dead

While attempting to recover a smartphone from a pit latrine, a 60-year-old Nigerian father known as “Black,” his 35-year-old son Ibrahim, and a 35-year-old man named Aminu Gaye dead.

On Sunday, April 21, Saminu Abdullahi, a public relations officer for the Kano State Fire Service, verified the occurrence.

He stated that at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Tsanyawa Fire Station called the emergency services reporting that four guys were stuck inside a pit latrine.

Danjuma was stuck, in his words, while attempting to recover a cell phone that had fallen into the pit toilet.

His son then became caught after trying to save his father by going into the pit toilet. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

“Gaye and Alasan also entered to rescue both men and they also got trapped,” he said.

Abdullahi said the first three victims were rescued unconscious, while the fourth victim was rescued alive.

He said all the victims were handed over to Superintendent of Police Iro Lado, at the Tsanyawa police division.



Abdullahi, further stated that the police conveyed the victims to Bichi Special Hospital for medical attention where doctors on duty confirmed the three dead and one still alive.

Class, this why environment and safety is important. Confined spaces like soakaways actually are full of very deadly gasses that can render most people unconscious and dead in a few minutes. You read above that a number of them were unconscious. Yes, that's the result of deadly gas in a very low oxygen environment.

Such deadly gases in soakaways include ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Not to talk of methane and carbon monoxide. Ofcourse there will be nitrogen oxide which will replace oxygen in your blood at the slightest chance and you are dead in less than 90 seconds. You won't even know something is happening to you. A terrible way to go.

Any enclosed or confined space is at risk to contain any of these gases. Lets be careful out there.

Now I'm sure there would have been more peace in the world if not for that evil invention - Phones. I'm sure it was a smartphone.

I don't get it. Is the hole of a pit latrine even wide enough for an adult to pass through? Even if it were,why one earth would anyone use an item that has been contaminated with waste products? Poverty is bad. Very bad.
