Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his last speech titled "I've Been to the Mountaintop" on April 3, 1968, at the Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ Headquarters) in Memphis, Tennessee. The speech primarily concerns the Memphis sanitation strike. In it, King calls for unity, economic actions, boycotts, and nonviolent protest, while challenging the United States to live up to its ideals. At the end of the speech, he discusses the possibility of an untimely death In this powerful address, King emphasizes the importance of peaceful demonstrations and the need to guarantee that demands are heard and answered. He advocates boycotting white goods as a means of nonviolent protest, urging collective economic empowerment. King's words also presciently foreshadowed his impending assassination, yet he reaffirms that he is not afraid to die in the pursuit of justice.
