The Kenya Meteorological Department issues a heavy rainfall advisory for the weekend and urged residents to be vigilant.

Flooding and heavy rains in Kenya have killed at least 70 people since mid-March, a government spokesperson said, twice as many as were reported earlier this week.

The East African country has seen weeks of heavy rains and severe flooding in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, as well as in the country's western and central regions.

Kenya's government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Friday refuted claims that hundreds of people have died in the ongoing flooding and said the official tally now stands at 70.

Five bodies were retrieved Friday from a river in Makueni county, east of the country, after a lorry they were traveling in was swept off a submerged bridge, local station Citizen TV reported. Another 11 were rescued.

Damaged infrastructure

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said Friday at a news briefing that the government had set aside 4 bil lion Kenya shillings ($29 million) for emergency relief efforts, but did not provide further details.

More than 130,000 people are currently affected with thousands of houses washed away and others flooded. Some 64 public schools in the capital were flooded and had to shut down. Roads and bridges have been damaged or destroyed.

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Friday issued a heavy rainfall advisory for the weekend and urged residents to be vigilant.

Other East African countries have reported flooding with 155 people reported to have died in neighboring Tanzania and more than 200,000 people affected in Burundi.

Natural disasters will surely occur but government should be proactive at all time and put in place necessary measures to save lives in prone areas

Nigeria needs to be alert but APC is busy trying to discredit Peter Obi. Someone whose legacy in education is unwavering till date. Anambra is still winning national and international competitions. The average APC supporter is not mentally stable.

I advise that you drop this ur obsession about Peter Obi for your own good , he is not likely to smell that seat for which u are being pained. It is high time we moved on an not seat and being pained by election loss. Peter Govern Anambra for 8hrs , today Anambra is being erroded by gully erosion, he has his strength and his weaknesses, he is just like any other politicians, corrupt as well as a lair and political prostitute. Stop hyping a man that failed his people, he would have a smooth campaign ride if he had turned Anambra to Dubai of Nigeria in 8 yrs. Education came with the missionary, what obi simply did was to renovate the school and hand them over to the original owner since government can not maintain the quality education. I can call a way if shifting responsibilities to the church ,but in a way it brought back the sanity in education and the results was obviously. So it is not anything spectacular as you people are hyping it , the credit should go to the church.
No campaign with world class hospital
Industries
Roads ,etc
Are are shouting about someone that renovated schools to be handed over to the church an achiever , it is shameful!
I regrettably supported him in the last election , because afterwards,I released he was going to be a phenomenal failure going by after election exposition about him. Some that can not maintained a stand for which he sworn the lives of his family on is not worthy of being a mentor! He is a pathological liar like every other corrupt politician.

We the world's people should no longer wait for the acknowledgement of climate change by the influential business and political people in power since business and political interest both blind and safeguard them from the consequences. Embrace the transition to clean sustainable energy. More solar, wind, wave, and even nuclear energy. Wherever you live, if you have the means to consider a personal vehicle, do not quickly disregard Electric ones. They are now attainable with a little effort, even near your local third-world garbage heap. If you're amone the Unable masses in terms of the ability to acquire personal transport, encourage those in power to seriously consider electrifying public transport or and speed up the rate of adoption if some effort is already being made. No community is now too primitive for such considerations.

May the Kenya casualties RIP.

BTW,

in my research on the rate of EV adoption worldwide, I could find nothing on Africa. What Africa Nation is leading in EV adoption? What are the percentages...

Peter Obi is the only reliable option. You sound very funny. Come back when Lagos students can compete with Anambra students. Peter Obi has never been a failure and will never be one like cornfused people who plunged the nation into crises with their agbero politics. You can't give what you don't have. Only Peter has something to offer. If you don't know that, then that's your problem. Nigerians are wiser now. Do you even have light?
