Due to globalization, new markets are emerging and businesses now have a chance to expand their presence beyond their national boundaries. This is particularly true in the United Kingdom, where the impact of Brexit has transformed economic activities, commerce and trade.

The United Kingdom and Nigeria have had a robust trade and investment relationship dating perhaps to the early 1960s.

Based on statistics online, the United Kingdom is the biggest investor in Nigeria, with inflows totalling $1.14 billion and accounting for an estimated 50.8% of Nigeria’s foreign direct investment.

Many digital businesses in the UK see Nigeria’s active workforce, digitalization and investor-friendly policies as attractions. Examples include Local99 (https://local99.co.uk/), Peaky Digital and Sure Oak.

However, many UK businesses have a presence in Nigeria and span the manufacturing sector.

Below are some of them:

Unilever Nigeria

Unilever Nigeria is a subsidiary of Unilever PLC, based in the United Kingdom. It essentially deals with the production of food, drinks, skincare and grooming items. Some of its most popular brands in Nigeria include Lux, Close Up, Vaseline and Knor.
