Ojukwu Lived A Most Fulfilled Life – Jonathan!

Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan has received with much sadness and “a deep feeling of great national loss’’ news of the passing away of Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in the United Kingdom.

A statement issued by his spokesman, Reuben Abati, in Abuja on Saturday said President Jonathan joined Chief Ojukwu’s family, the government and people of his home state, Anambra, the entire Igbo people of Nigeria and his friends, associates and followers across the country in mourning him.

The president urged them to be comforted by the knowledge that “Chief Ojukwu lived a most fulfilled life, and has in passing on, left behind a record of very notable contributions to the evolution of modern Nigeria which will assure his place in the history of the country.’’

The statement said Jonathan believed that late Chief Ojukwu’s immense love for his people, justice, equity and fairness forced him into the leading role he played in the Nigerian civil war.

He commended the departed’s commitment to reconciliation and the full reintegration of his people into a united and progressive Nigeria in the aftermath of the war.

These, qualities, he said, would ensure that he was remembered forever as one of the great personalities of his time who stood out easily as a brave, courageous, fearless, erudite and charismatic leader.

The president called on Chief Ojukwu’s family, his associates and followers to make his rites of passage a celebration of his most worthy and memorable life spent in the service of his people and of the nation.

He prayed that God would grant Chief Ojukwu’s soul eternal rest from his earthly labours. (NAN)

There is nothing greater to me in life than gaining the whole-hearted admiration, loyalty and love of your entire people.

This is something that Ojukwu (along with a few other Nigerian and international leaders) have achieved that I hope to one day accomplish before I die.

+100

In my opinion, the man was one of the greatest Nigerian to date. No other Nigerian has the whole-hearted admiration and loyalty of his/her people in the manner Ojukwu did and still does. RIP Eze Igbo Gburugburu.

I don't think being loved by your people makes you a great Nigerian, though.

They are two separate things, in a multi-ethnic country like Nigeria.

I don't care for the dude personally, but i can at least respect that he must have done something to make his people so fanatical about him.

Ojukwu was a great Nigerian. His opting for Biafra was the love and affection to the suffering of his people and not to spite the Nigerian federation or hatred against other Nigerians.

His acts were very real and selfless. Even the things he fought to prevent are still hurting Nigerians now.

Ojukwu you will always be in our hearts. Ndewo, odogwu!

Real love and tribal love are 2 different things. Real love for Ojukwu and the civil war nostalgia also are 2 different things

As displayed by recent history, his people showed little or no interest in him, the man basically died from lack of good care and support by his people, he was dumped in a cheap nursing home in the UK.

He was denied proper and immediate care after getting hit with the first stroke and the man lost valuable and needed hours while his people looked the other way and bicker about money and responsibility.

Ibo people generally don;t care too much for their leaders and heroes, they are more into the collective tribal pride thing.

As much as they praise and love to throw ZIK in your face, decades after the man's death, they are yet to give the man a decent resting place.

Must you comment? Why not go back to your Yorubas caves and sort yourself out. Ojukwu remains amongst the greatest Nigeria: Zik, Ahmadu Bello, Ojukwu. These are three people that will never skip the memories of Nigerians even in the next 500 years to come. And above all Ojukwu is rated high since he could have the ears of his people 100%. He is one person that is respect across Nigeria regions. The comments from GEJ, Buhari and other former heads of states, nationally and international attest to this fact.

Am not tool cool with your choice of all the prohibited words, but agree that Jonathan should have name a monument after Ojukwu. I hope he will still auto-correct himself by naming a national monument after him - else the zoologist will be useless than we hoped.

Since he did not actualised his dream of a Biafra Republic, he didnt live a fulfilled life. He even died of illness and not of old age. So what has he fulfilled?
