Hi Nairalanders,

Do you have a dump truck (Tipper) that is in good condition and can weigh up 18, 20 & 25 tons at least after loading, then talk to the guru on 08132820002 or HAULAGINO@YAHOO.COM. We will help you get it busy if it has been idle and will be raking in money for you. There is more than enough job for it to do from now till the end of the year.

NB: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS IN GOOD CONDITION

Thanks

@Uwish and all,

I've been very educated through this tread. God bless all of you that have taken ur time to enlighten me. God will most definitely expand your reach.

My brother is into large scale haulage(owns a tanker vessel). And I've made up my mind that I want to own a fleet of vessels some day. Both Tanker vessels and flatback vessels(that carry containers).
But I want to get there calculatively and learn on the way.
I want to do this by starting with road/land haulage(trucking).

I believe the lessons learned from road trucking can set a solid foundation for when I enter into marine haulage.

With that being said, I would like to start road trucking gradually.
I want to explore every possible aspect of the business(tanker trucking, flatback trucking, dump trucking)

Like I said, I want to enter into it gradually cos its capital intensive and one doesn't just rush and buy 10trucks at once.

I would like to start with 1truck head and have one tank and one flatback attachment.

But I have some challenges that I know will be solved by the reasonable people here.

1. Can the truck head for a tanker truck work with a flatback attachment?

2. Please I need advice from the house on how capital can be raised for this sort of business.

I will appreciate ur responses. Thank you

Hi Nairaladers,

For as many that had been asking me the question of what section of the haulage is better venture into. Read this breaking news:

[b]
Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced plans to flag-off container freights from APM terminal in Apapa Port, Lagos to Inland Container Nigeria Ltd (ICNL) depots in Kaduna and Kano on Friday 23rd August, 2013.

NRC's Managing Director Engr. Adeseyi Sijuwade, said at the weekend that the container traffic was a strategy demonstrating the corporation's ability and readiness to further enhance the development on the nation’s economy.

He said 20 wagons carrying between 20 to 40 containers, would be moved during the pilot scheme, while efforts are in top gear to increase the frequency to thrice per week.

He said the commencement of the container freight will, help in decongesting the ports as well as help in facilitating the establishment and use of Inland Container Depots (ICDs) along the track corridors.

He said with the strengthening of the freight capacity, the corporation was ready to enter into partnership with organisations that require the services of the Corporation in freighting their cargoes across the country.

He said: “It would interest you to know that a single train haulage of 20 containers is equivalent to 20 trailers or 40 trucks on the road. This goes a long way to improve the state of our roads, boost the economic, health, safety and environmental sustainability of the nation.”

Besides the container freight take-off, the Corporation, Sijuwade added, will commission some newly acquired assets which include four 1800HP locomotives and two 100-ton telescopic cranes.

The Corporation enhanced its passenger carriage capacity recently by flagging off the third weekly Lagos–Kano intercity passenger train and has been maintaining steady increase in its goods and passenger train services.
[b]

This implies:

1. There will no job for at least 40 trailers (Flat bed) up-country, that is 40 trailers will not have enough job going outside Lagos State.

2. The 40 trailers (Flat bed) will join the league of trailers jostling for local jobs

3. There will be too many trucks (Flat bed) competing for too many little local job

4. The freight rate for (Flat bed) will reduce drastically for both local and up-country job

5. The cost of trailer (Flat bed) will reduce because many might not buying it.

6. There will be a lot of shift to other section of haulage

Then what is way out?

Hello Nairalanders,

Journalists scrambling for an interview with Customs officials at the APM Terminal, Apapa Wharf, Lagos, Nigeria

Nigerian roads should literally be in ''jubilation'' as the revamped railways sector has facilitated the long haul of containerized cargoes by rail to distant parts of Nigeria as far as Kano and Kaduna, over 1,000 km away from Lagos APM Terminals, Apapa Wharf, Lagos.

With 20 loaded wagons on the maiden trip (each can carry two 20ft or one 40ft containers), between 20 and 40 trailers or trucks will be off the roads, reducing incidents and wear and tear on our motorways.

Cargo Handlers put finishing touches to rigging procedures

http://transformationwatch.com/2013/08/23/breaking-photonews-first-haulage-of-containerized-cargo-in-decades-leaves-lagos-for-kanokaduna-by-rail

As promised the FG. started the haulage of containerized-cargo last week friday, and this will definitely has negative effects on haulage transport especially for flatbed truck that work from Apapa.

SOLUTIONS

1. You can divert your truck to working for companies that are not located at Apapa but would still need it

2. You can change the flatbed trailer to either back-box trailer to carry finished goods for maunfacturing companies or to tipper bucket to carry granite/sand to construction sites from quarry.

3. If you are yet to go into haulage and you are interested in the business, then the better section to venture into are 15tons back-box and 20tons dump truck (Tipper). These two I can guaranteed you that there is enough job now.

4. You can bring your flatbed truck to working within the local area that is not going for up-country jobs though the income will reduce drastically.

Hello,

For many that had been asking me questions on oil & gal (Tanker) haulage, especially why I am not encouraging people to go into that section of haulage. To the best of my knowledge, the reasons are as follows:

SHORTCOMINGS OF TANKER HAULAGE:

1. The required capital to start the business is very high: The purchasing of the truck head (tractor) and building of the tanker (trailer) with all the necessary accessories is close to N8 million if not more than.

2. The risk involves in the business is very high from stealing to fire accident, etc

3. If you intend insuring the business (which is advisable), the insurance premium is on high side.

4. At most times if the truck is going up-country (outside locality), the driver can steal fuel suppose to deliver & this is bore by the
transporter.

5. Most major marketers (conoil, mobil, AP etc) require you to have up to at least 5 truck in your fleet to be a transporter with them e.g Mobil requires 20 trucks) and if you are to be under a major transporter, your truck might not go up to 4 times in a month because it is been rationalized among many trucks under them.

6. The Returns on Investment does not justify the cost incurred to put up the business

7. Many of the filling station owners have their own trucks so many trucks contest for little job.

8. The viability of the business most of the times depends on govt. policy

and many more other reasons
