I got the inspiration to post this topic when someone told me just the other day about a friend who was offered employment on the condition that she would put in at least five years in the company before thinking of resigning. All this had to be in writing so as to make it "binding" on both parties.

I also heard about a chairman of a company who made his top management staff sign an agreement that if they ever think of leaving his company, for 10 years, they would not venture into the kind of business he does. The question that begs for an answer is how legal are these agreements. In short, how legal are the many clauses included in a contract of employment which we hurriedly sign.

This is terrible because most job seekers who are desperate just sign this offer letters without actually taking time to study them. However, i n the cases whereby an employee signs erroneous agreements, how binding is it on him in the event of an occasion arising.

Also, we see situations where an employee is cheated or where an employer does not keep to the terms as provided in the labour Act and as usual many people suffer untold hardships since they lack sufficient knowledge in this area.

I would like to address questions connected to employer/employee relationships. The laws governing same, which court has the jurisdiction to address issues of this kind, how to seek redress when cheated etc. If you have any issue, we can deal with it here together. We could offer solutions, advice, suggestions etc. We would not be emotional but we would use the instrumentality of the law in proffering solutions in this regard.

Caveat- This is not restricted to the complains of an employee but also works vice-versa. An employee also has obligations he needs to fulfill so employers of labour are also welcome to this thread smiley.

Hope people get interested in this.
