Previously, the only way to discover the existence of new content in the [Followed Topics], [Following] and [Followers] tabs on Nairaland was to click on them from time to time. Sometimes, you would click on them, and there would be no new content. Sometimes, there would be new content, but you wouldn't know. On Saturday, we implemented a near real-time notification system that lets you know when there's new content on those tabs. Here's how it works:

If you see the following links on your header: [Followed Topics(7)] [Following(5)] [Followers(3)], it means:
- 7 new posts or new topics have been added to your [Followed Topics] list since the last time you checked.
- 5 new posts have been made by people you're following since the last time you checked the [Following] page
- 3 new people have started following you since the last time you checked the [Followers] page.

The absence of those numbers in brackets indicates that those pages have not been updated since you last checked. Note also that you won't see the [Followed Topics] tab unless you're following some topics, the [Following] tab unless you're following some members, and the [Followers] tab unless you have followers.

We also noticed that there were too many inappropriate topics on the [Trending] section of Nairaland, so we removed them.

Good! the explanation makes sense and the new implementation makes surfing NL easier.

It has some disadvantages though. It means you will be easily distracted. Secondly, there is high probability new topics wont be visited especially if they weren't posted by the people you follow. Thirdly, it's really cucumbersome seeing the post of all you follow appear on your follow list, when you can easily make do with a list of their names.

Well, could be that all we need is just a liltle getting used to. Welldone!

This is very good Seun. I love the auto section very much, what are you doing to help with a child-BOARD dedicated to DIYs, repair experiences etc that is different from the mother-BOARD that has been overran with advert.

@Seun can u please Add Thump up/down too? so we can thumb up/down people's comments, and u will do it that any comments that receive maybe much thumbdown should be authomatically hiden by the system due to low rating, this way u can eliminate all those tribal comments without people having to report them.

this will go far to put a check on all those bawdy ideas people have in their own twisted minds and dare bring it out to the public as topics, because they have the clause of anonymity.
some topics are not worth elaborating on... they should just be sent back to the abyss where they erupted from.

Good job @ Seun. I also like the idea of thumbing up like the previous comment. Seems Nairalanders are getting used to the new one now.

Nairaland has seen considerable improvements lately and we can only give credit to Seun for a job well done. However beinga frequent user of the auto section i must say there are way too much pinned topics most of which are not of much relevance.

Hi Seun,being a computer scientist, I can say U've done a gud job so far so good but these 2 areas needs 2 be improved;
1)U will observe dat,wen one quotes a post and then submits d quote,while one is still typing d reply 2 such post,anoda person myt av commented on d general post so,wen one finally submits,there'll be interference in-btween & dat's why I normally put @sososo b4 making a reply 2 a comment even though I myt av quoted such comment.So pls make it in such a way dat,wen one quotes a comment,ones reply 2 d comment and d quoted comment wuld be pasted together no mata d time interval btw d submitn of d quote and d reply 2 d quoted.
2)D second area is d area of notifications abt updates into mail accts.With these ur new innovations,there won't be need 4 dat anymore. However,I'll appreciate it if U can be sending notifications wen one's comment(s) av been quoted.D reason 4 dis is dat one myt av commented and followed a not 2 relevant,less concerned, less interesting topic in wich one myt not be really interested in d subsequent posts by others but wen u giv d notification 4 one's quoted comment,den one can go and check d reply.Also,u can put d page number in wich d comment was quoted in brackets in other 2 save d time dat'l be used for moving from page to page wyl trying 2 find d quoted comment.I hope these points help? @naturalwaves,as regards your second point,the 'local search' located at the bottom page is there to help you find every quoted post of yours.Just type your username in the local search engine, a page containing all your quoted posts surface..a click on each post takes you directly to the page where the quote was made...hope this helps.

Also the instant yim chat is gone too. The old Nairaland gave users access to conect with each other via yahoo from nairaland. This one doesn't

Though I was one of the protesters that condemed the new look of Nairaland, I must say I'm enjoying it now. Apart from the hidden posts and the online status, its perfectly the best.

I'm looking foward to seeing better upgrades in the near future Nairaland 5.0 should not be too far from reach Seun. I believe you can do it
