Maternal mortality in nigeria and Africa has increased dramatically in the last decade. This mainly because of the high rate of ignorance and negligence in Africa. this is why i know Nigeria needs more men like Dr Michael Obasi, the president of Safe MOtherhood empowerment and enlightenment initiative(SMEEI). i was at one of their seminars lately and honestly Nigerian women are dying unnecessarily.
The doctor taught that people should not despice medical knowledge. God is not against medical knowledge. womnen die everyday because of ignorance and too much dependence on the church. you will actually find churches where medicine is preached against and members are forced to pray 2 God for every health issue and this is not good. drugs are made from trees and animals which are products of the earth, which is also God's creation. a typical case is where a woman that gets pregnant spends all her time in the church praying instead of seeking antenatal care where tests such as haemoglobin estimation and urinalysis will be done.. women like this end up dying at child birth or risking deformation of the child.. God will always be there for us but God does not expect us to be stupid. the doctor said he encountered a woman that he encountered a woman that had serious fibroid and instead of seeking medical help, her pastor told her to forget the hospital and pray n fast for 40 days.. she was brought to the doctor at the point of death where she was heavily pregnant n also had fibroid. if not for the doctor's massive experience she would have been dead but she lived.
