i would like to hear from all Nigerians anywhere in the world, for those of us who have left Nigeria to reside out of Africa, do you think you made the right decision? Do you think that you are living your dream life? I am in Finland and even with the wonderful social service and free health and educational services, i still have a slight feeling of regret
So Please my Niaja land brothers is this abroad thing worth it at all?
The home we left is the best place in the world
Kindly drop your comment, it would be very helpful

You will definetely miss you fam and freinds. There is no place like home. But this is a decision you made and there are prices u must pay for it. Like me i love here and having plans to have properties in Naija. I will like to visit frequent and some day when i'm on pension or before retire back to Lagos. The main reason most of people migrate has to deal with work, school and many more,

once you have those things you know start to decide where you want to spend the rest of your life, Just have a good plan and work towards it. Try to seperate business from emotions.

@Kemmy

It depends on where you at. Look for the opportunity around you. Be it school or business, grab it and Jet back home if you wish. Don't be fooled by all the social services. They sometimes use that to tie you down. Keep your eyes on the ball and follow your heart.

Re: Is This Abroad Thing Worth It? by kidonig: 9:06pm On Dec 04, 2007
Hi, you did not say how long you've stayed in Finland and what exactly you are doing there.

For me, I am in London and I can say that it is worth it for sure. I cannot start telling you everything but trust me, its worth it.

Meanwhile, your stay abroad and psyche depends a lot on who is around you. Some parts of London is like Lagos, I don't mean as per infrastructure, but with respect to the number of Nigerians you see,

I attended a meeting (end of year) of my Villagers here in London, not my LGA , my Village!!!

Cheers

Re: Is This Abroad Thing Worth It? by omega25red(m): 10:08pm On Dec 04, 2007
i think you are probably feeling home sick. I'm saying how many nigerians can you find in Finland? on like London and NY or DC and texas?

I do think it is worth it though because i dont really know what type of life i would have now if i had remaind in Nigeria( not saying that living there is bad) i'm talking about me personally. Living abroad is a struggle but i'm sure you'll make it work.
Re: Is This Abroad Thing Worth It? by Tats(m): 10:46pm On Dec 04, 2007
Its worth it for me. I am enjoying every bit of it. I don't really miss home as I get to see my friends and other Nigerians. Naija food and some drinks are very much available (Even Guinness Malt!). I also attend my community meeting. Work is fine and I meet Nigerians in the office. So for me, it is alright.
Re: Is This Abroad Thing Worth It? by Ndipe(m): 11:57pm On Dec 04, 2007
For some people it is worth it, for some it aint worth it, for others, it's decidedly mixed. Only you can make the best decision.

social services are not used to tie immigrants down, they didn't invent it because of immigrants

I don't know what Finland looks like but personally, i would not go to a country that does not have civil right laws and there must be a reasonable percentage of black populations. I don't think i can survive in some of these European countries.
Re: Is This Abroad Thing Worth It? by almondjoy(f): 4:42am On Dec 05, 2007
Depends on your personality, goals and aspirations.

Personally, could not have traded living abroad for anything in this world. Especially when you learn to live within your means and focus on what you came over to do. If it does not work, you always have the choice to go back. I have picked my crematorium and my vase for my ashes to be scatterred along the Mississippi river! kiss

Yes oh!  Proud to be an American any day. Love Nigeria--but na second best! cool You do not get a country that will give you a chance like the US--to be all you can be--yourself and more.  No matter what it is you want to do.  No strings attached.   What my own country could not do?  Please do not blame me.

If the Mississippi rejects me--I am dead anyway and do not have anything to do with that.  My spirit will still roam free like a true American! kiss

But please let God let ma ashes flow to the river Niger and not Lagos bar beach with stinking dead whales! cry

And who said I do not like Nigeria?  The fact that I love America better does not mean I do not like Nigeria.  It just means I have a preference. Why don't you understand that!

Not to worry!  Americans do not run for cover.  If ever my services are needed, I will be the first to volunteer. People died to give me this freedom and I would gladly give it back.  Do you understand that in Nigeria?  I would rather live and die in a place where life has meaning even in death!

Oh Yes. Definitely. Nigeria could not have presented me with the opportunities to get to where I am today. I learnt to become independent quickly. With hard work and a lot of doors have opened and continue to open. No way it could have heppend in Niger. You either have to know someone or pay someone to get ahead in that country. Lots of opportunities to become you want are here. You just have to take the bull by the horn and go!

omo boy, to me this abroad thing is worth it,if you no what you want.there are abundant oppurtunities out there, without going through any bottle neck or elbow, like it is in our almighty 9ja,and people respect you for your hardwork.and i dont see the big deal of been a nigerian, that i must die in my father land bullshit, for heavensake why are we so nuts upstairs,we could have been born in the hellfire called somalia for all there is,just because you were born in 9ja does not mean you must die in 9ja,the world has gone pass that.you can choose to be any where, provided you find peace, security, and the basic amenities in life that 9ja can never afford to give you.liyel moke former minister of power said before 9ja will have steady power(electricity)it will be 2058,which means he might not live to see it happen not even his 16yr old son.is this the kind of country 1 should come back and die in,have been in malawi for 3months now and i can categorically tell you that for one day my broda light no blink.when will this ever happen in 9ja with all our billion, billion.and this is a country that has nothing,i beg make una  live story.to me any place na home provided i can get the basic amenities to make life comfortable.

Nigeria has almost everythin yet nothing seems to be working, because of BAD leadership,

IF NOT FOR BANKS WETIN OUR GRADUATES FOR DEY DO SEF, THANX TO SOLUDO AND OTHERS THESE ARE THE KIND OF PPLE WE NEED IN THIS COUNTRY,
NOT THOSE BBC (BORN BEFORE COMPUTER) FOLKS LIKE OBJ
Re: Is This Abroad Thing Worth It? by folahann(m): 5:20pm On Dec 18, 2007
I am somehow indifferent about this but a lot of people think you can only make if you travel out of Nigeria. Some people don't seem to regard themselves as somebody until they have being in another part of the world.
My brother, manifest this saying; "be the change you wish to see in the world"
