Maybe I’m missing something but telling people to take whatever job because of sponsorship and ILR is still asking people to settle. Anyway, you are right, and if you think I am not making any sense, you are also right.

Who gives you a high paying full time job on student visa? If the whole idea is not for sponsorship and ILR at the end how will you get a job in this country?

It's okay to settle especially when there's time crunch to renew your resident permit, which is the case for most people. What's not okay is not striving to becoming better or aim for better positions.

Justwise is only trying to get you to see why people need to take what is available in the moment and then work their way up. For instance, I'm starting with a HCA offer cos I need the sponsorship to put in my application to renew RP that expires January 2023, the "bigger/better" roles are yet to make any offer, no time to keep searching. Take what's available, regularise your stay and then keep searching. I do not intend to remain an HCA for long, I will definitely be moving upwards...that's d plan!

Okay babes, all the best with your new gig smiley

Yup, particularly appliances that heat and cool. Do your bulbs get hot? Buy Energy Saving bulbs instead.

Recently, I studied my regulator for hot water and changed the settings, now it heats water only between 1am and 3am or so. Those 2 hours of heating daily is just enough for my entire family hot water usage daily: no more, no less. That was my magic number: any thing more than 2 hours, I have excess; anything less than 2 hours won't be enough.

Your curtains too, changing to thermal blinds that traps in heat could save you a lot.

Instead of heating the whole house so you can go around shirtless, turn down the heater and wear two layers of clothes. Saving £100 monthly throughout winter is a lot!

I still stay in student accommodation for now where i on heater 24/7 even if i no dey house, my housemates all brits go on heater for sitting room, open windows and go out for 2days and not return. Water heater is on 24/7. We just dey do anyhow. Bulb is on 24/7. And we pay just 400/month. Everybody just dey waste light dey do anyhow.
So i dont really feel the brunt of electric fees.

But when i'm on my own. And i have my own apartment. Body go tell me. Infact. I no go get water heater self. Anybody wey wan bath. I go tell my wife make she carry kettle go boil water if she wan bath. No yeye water heater. And no yeye hot water coming out from kitchen tap. Cus that thing useless for my eye. Wetin i wan use hot water for kitchen tap do. Wetin no fit cook indomie

I think you and Amarathripple0 are saying the same thing but on two different extremes.

People get high paying jobs on student visas especially after graduating. Also, many people here are student dependants who can actually get high paying full time jobs too.

I don't want to talk about myself so no one says "If God blesses you...", but I have mentioned here of my friend who got a £50k job with sponsorship as a student in June. He was told to work only 3 times a week till he graduates in September. It was an energy company and he was a Banker in Nigeria but the skills were transferrable.

I know someone who was a HR personnel in Nigeria and I tried to encourage him to apply but he said what you're saying "it's unlikely to land a professional job", "it's only care that can give visa", etc. Who knows, if he had tried, he may have found his way in since he had 16 months before the end of the wife's student visa.

Another friend just got 3 year sponsorship in Construction. I couldn't believe that Construction could give sponsorship till he told me.

People should actually give heed to the advice. It's Nairaland, people share anonymous advice, take what you can and leave the rest. No point accusing people of being condescending.

Roles like Business Analysts are relatively easy to get and available, you can start without sponsorship and get another with sponsorship in a few months. I am speaking from my experience and that of others around me.

The rejection mails will come! I think rejection is even better than the ones that never get back. It's not easy but you have to chest it o.

HCA Visas are great! In fact, people can build decent careers in Care too, so nothing wrong with that. I guess the beauty of a platform like this is getting to see the wide variety of options and learning from people's experiences.

what is the goal in your application? To get fulltime employment right? Then it's better to align your answers to what the decision maker would want. Put yourself in their shoes, would you employ someone now for a Jan 2023 start date that intends to go for extended Christmas holiday or is in full time studies and it will clash with work duties. Even if you have plans or need some days off, when you resume you go navigate am. I know a friend, that took job in a city 100miles away and employer thought it was same city because it was hybrid role so the guy was commuting and Airbnb'ing. If the person told them he was in a different city na rejection letter for end am. Wisdom is profitable to direct

Telling an employer about your leave is the right thing to do especially if you have made firm plans that can't be changed before you made it to the interview stage. If the job isn't given, then they wouldn't have given it even if you didn't have holiday plans anyway.

Please I do have a question. My partner has BSc in Accounting education and TRCN. He has Masters as well in Administration and Planning. I was so hopeful he would get a job cos of his high GP but now going through the thread I am worried.
He will be here late December, I will appreciate whatever information you can help us with.

Lived in Sunbury on Thames about 11 years ago, so things might be different now.
It's a small town but close to London and Heathrow. Things are a bit pricey and nothing much there. One notable coy in Sunbury-on Thames is BP. Apart from that, nothing much. To even go to Nigerian church (RCCG), I had to take 2/3 buses. Not much in the town centre.
If I remember clearly, I was paying almost £600 for an ensuite room without access to the living room. Even things in their Tesco was more expensive than normal. I heard that it's mostly rich people that live in Middlesex. Came back to the North for more money and my rent for an ensuite room with more facilities dropped to £350. Since then I knew for me to go back to the South, you will have to double my salary.

Hello senior women/men, please what are the pros and cons of an interest only mortgage? I have read about these difference but still not sure why any of the options should be picked over the other. Please can someone explain further the advantages and disadvantages of the different kinds of mortgage payments. Cheers!

You people should be calming down with all these advice na. Why would you tell a recruiter you have extended holidays for yourself during interview?

Please do all you can to get the job and after signing the offer letter, tell them you have holidays already planned.

I’m assuming the prepayment meter is for both gas and electric. Gas is usually cheaper than electricity…most homes use both or just electric.
Gas is only cheaper in terms of tariff but when compared to usage, it is as expensive as electricity. So forget about which one is cheaper, always assume gas = electricity and try to be energy efficient .

With interest only mortgage, let's say your mortgage is £100k, you will only be paying the interest and the capital will not reduce. So, the amount you will be paying monthly will be very small, say about £100 monthly depending on the interest rate. At the end of the mortgage tenure, you either sell the house to pay the mortgage lender the £100k or take it from your savings.

Whereas, with repayment mortgage, you will be paying more every month as you are not just paying the interest on the loan but you are repaying back the loan, so you might be paying about £500 per month. At the end of the mortgage tenure, you will have finished paying the £100k, so you wont have to pay the bank any more money.

Tbh, I am not sure you will get any lender to give you interest only mortgage anymore. It's only those doing buy-to let that lenders give interest only mortgage to.

Interest free mortgage, would eventually become a very nasty trap (if that's the only property you own)........ grin

Repayment mortgage is the best, you're paying the interest + capital........

Let me explain Interest only mortgage to you, in the simplest form ......

You buy a £200,000 property, mortgage term is 25 years........

The interest on the mortgage is £70K............. In 25 years, you would have only paid back £70K.......

At the time of maturity, you must pay your lender the balance of £200K........

If you're now semi retired, and lucky enough to have £200K, under your pillow (goodluck).......

If you don't ...... You don buy wàhálà......... grin

I moved into a new flat 5 days ago, I have bought 50 pounds worth of power so far on the prepaid meter.

Please advice me on possible solution before I go bankrupt.

Adjust the temperature on your boiler, set water to 40 and heater to below 30 degrees. The energy bill these days is something else

For electricity; switch off everything not in use even bulbs, you can also turn off refrigerator during the day and turn it on at night or do a 12 hours on/off schedule since the freezer would be frozen and cant get any more frozen.
