It should never be forgotten though, that like the then Ralph Uwazurike-led Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), the IPOB movement was a largely harmless, placard-carrying separatist group full of mere rhetoric and the occasional peaceful protest to show visibility, till Buhari's intransigent and vehement ethnic bigotry culminated in ordering the military to open fire on unarmed, non-violent protesters sometime circa 2016.

Add to this Nigerian politicians' predilection for using insecurity as a bargaining chip, both for resulting bailout funds from the federal government and diversion for looting state funds unchecked; coupled with severe unemployment and illiteracy plaguing the youths who can be easily conscripted as foot soldiers for a budding revolution.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I condemn in totality IPOB's wanting bloodletting and barbaric approach in enforcing compliance to its repressive orders, but Major General (retd) Buhari's part in this imbroglio should never be overlooked.
