inforesource: We are a poor nation, and no, I am not saying this to defend any government. We also do not pay enough to get the kind of quality educaiton we need. It is the truth, and it does not mean I back APC, or think that Tinubu is the answer. It was said when PDP was in power, and when the army was in power. At the end of the day, if we want quality, we have to pay for quality. 5 Likes |

ebukajay184: What Reno refuse to say is that primary and secondary education in public schools in those countries are free except for Ghana which I am not sure of. This gives room for parents to plan ahead for tertiary education. Here in Nigeria, public education has been so bastardized that those who still have options have decided to result to private school options. Furthermore, parents struggle to pay from nursery to secondary such that by the time it's tertiary, they already exhausted and can't keep up especially the undisciplined ones ( Not capping on anyone). |

inforesource: As long as we keep getting cheap education and power these sector can't be strong FG wanted to remove subsidy for power In July you guys were already salivating like Rottweilers all over . Maybe if these sectos isn't subsidized it would've been better. The only industry that's run privately which is entertainment industry is booming because there's nothing like subsidy if you want quality there you pay. How can you complain of poor education system when you're paying 10k per session is that madness or what? Only those in europe can complain of poor education system in their countries because they pay for it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

nairalanda1: I don't know who had done this to us in this country? Were you not in this country when civil servant embezzled billions and trillions of naira, so we should pay more tax for them to eat, have you not heard that our national assembly members monthly salary is around 30million naira a month, have you not heard that we have about 11 aeroplanes in presidential flight. All the nations you cited above how many of them do you see that their leaders live an affluent life like Nigeria. For your information, many Nigerians are paying heavy tax, infant, there is what we even called multiply tax in Nigeria tax system, so don't deceive yourself that we don't pay tax, it is the rich like Dangote and others who government gives tax exception in trillions of naira which is part of what makes him the richest man in Africa. So if you don't know what to say keep short your mouth, Nigeria masses have made enough sacrifice it is our politicians now that needed make their own sacrifice by reducing their affluent life style. |

nairalanda1: Why will someone pay for a service he did not enjoy....? What have they done with the low tax they collected ? Is it not the same leaders that are sharing dollars during election? Is it not the inefficiency of govt in service delivery that caused people to seek for alternatives in the first place... For 62yrs . Nigerian leaders could not put a system to refine crude oil for our usage... Nor have a clear rail network to connect the six regions in the Nation.... And you expect the same leaders to be fair to its citizens to pay a cost reflective bill... How do you think they will be able to fund their exotic lifestyle if they dont push it back to the masses? We still have a long way to go... |

Why do reno omokri keep behaving stupidly. The point here is how many people can afford such amount in Nigeria? A country where more than 70% of its citizens are poor.. U are comparing a useless naira to dollar |

nairalanda1:do Nigerians even have income? And you think Nigerians don't pay tax? You guys are made to blv dis higwash Nigerians don't pay tax. Is there any Nigerian that works in a corporate environment dat doesn't pay tax? All civil servants pay tax, private sector workers pay tax even before they get their salary. Traders also pay tax. They pay annual rent to govt and other monthly or bi-annual levies to govt. Public transport workers buy one ticket or the other from govt daily, that's tax. Everything u buy in Nigeria, there's one VAT or the other added to it. So whr are you guys getting this notion Nigerians don't pay tax from? Àbí you want the average worker to give all his salary or income to govt before you know they are being taxed? The Germans pay 40-50% of their earnings as tax because everything has been made available to them hence the tax. What facilities do we have in Nigeria that will warrant additional impoverishment in the name of tax? The Germans you mentioned can comfortably save 40% of their earnings after expenditure. How many Nigerian homes can save 30% of their monthly earning? 1 Like |

Mumu economist, what is the minimum wage of those countries mentioned in comparism to Nigeria.? US $7.25 per hour equivalent to about N5,629.62 per hour. UK £10.42 equivalent to N10,403.16. Whereas Nigeria's minimum wage per hour is $0.24 (N187.5) So wherein lies the comparison? |

nairalanda1: Ghana GDP is higher than Nigeria’s? Education is for development, therefore making it less accessible via fees is counter productive. Total school fees by all students in public schools is not up to N150b when much more is wasted or stolen by politicians. Nigeria can afford free education if we reduce corruption and cost of governance. Eg what are we doing with Two houses of assembly, when our poor children would have to pay school fees? |

Throwback: Why would you give loans to ppl who cannot afford it How will they pay back
Why should they stop foreign schools. It's their money Nobody is stopping u from doing your own naija only scholarship It's not costly The free education that has not solved any problem is the costly one I concur |

Cromagnon: How many British or US agencies or private organisations grant scholarships for their citizens to study in Nigeria? We have Nigerian agencies with scholarships devoted to schools in the UK. As for the loan, it is called a loan because you cannot afford to pay. So take the loan as done abroad for those who also cannot afford to pay, and begin payback when you have secured a job after graduating. 1 Like |
