@hotstepper we are planning to have the baby in Toronto march next yr.
@honey86 sorry about the statement .

See if @hotstepper can link you with any Nigerian/African OB/GYN outside of the GTA, they'll be cheaper for you. Ask for Aurora - Bracebridge area, a number of Nigerian women from Naija give birth in that area for around C$3k/$4K, assuming a normal delivery. Downside to giving birth in that area is that your child's birth certificate could take 2 weeks extra compared to GTA area (if you're in a hurry to get Baby's Canadian Passport for travel back to Naija), but they'll issue you 'Cerificate of Live Birth' same day you leave the hospital (usually 24hrs after normal childbirth, to save cost of hospital stay)

Not to derail the thread. I know a dude who was born in canada about 30 years ago. Parents didnt get him a passport then. Can he apply for one now? He has a birth cert given to his mum by the hospital in Quebec. Any experts in the house please advice.

Dear Redwoods
Have you gotten the visa yet, if not, how do you intend to go about it?
It is extremely important that you reply to this, it may save you a huge trouble

Are you a visa agent?

He doesn't news to go that far. I.have a.dr that did CS with 1600 or.so so everything plus hospital bill didn't cost up to 4k. But in Aurora, it might cost.more because of the place just like my end. Wherever she gives birth, the birth certificate comes out within 5 days cuz u apply online nd they send it out immediately

The good thing is, there is good record keeping by the respective Canadian ministries.

As long as he has his records (birth certificate) to prove, i dont think that should be an issue.
There may be a process and it may take a bit of a time but eventually he should be able to get his passport.

You can also see these rules:

I hope that helps.

I would definitely go with U.S.A for obvious reasons.....it should cost your more than 3,000 or so to have a baby in

Texas....people from U.K and Canada even fly to U.S to give birth just for the citizenship....
This poster is very funny

I know you can apply online. However, from the experience a friend just went through this past April in Bracebridge, the birth certificate did NOT come out in 5 days, I personally went to Service Ontario over 6 times, and they told me that even though we applied online, they still need to validate 'live birth' through the hospital in Bracebridge before they issue Birth Certificate, and this is all done electronically. Sadly, they had no way of going there physically to do this, so we had to wait. And after that, we still had to get 'Travel Certificate' from Nigerian embassy in Ottawa, they wanted to take forever to issue that as well, but I decided to make the 4 hour drive to get it.

Seriously, that's weird. My family friend gave birth in March and hers took less than 5 days to.come both the short and long birth certificates cuz everybody applies online and it's included in the package u r given before u leave the hospital. It's only health card that they give u the temporary one at the hospital nd then u receive the main card in the mail

It's very hot now and even if it's cold, giving the child an option is worth it

cohmai:
[quote I'd advice you to stay wherever you're now and give the birth than to risk your life and the life of your un-born child flying to Canada, because the weather over there now is not friendly to visitors right now

Hotstepper please stop passing wrong information on nairaland. Or a least to a bit of research first to make sure the fact or "advice" you're giving out are accurate.

It does not matter when they stopped offering automatic citizenship to Children of visitors who were born there. He has just given you information that is readily available online. It's not hidden. The photo attached shows a picture I took from the gov website and highlighted is the section clearly stating grounds of giving citizenship to minors.

You failed to fully understand the picture you posted. A Canadian Born Child does NOT need to APPLY for citizenship, they do NOT need to fill out any form, their citizen is inherent in their birth on Canadian land, sea or air space, and guaranteed by the 'Charter of Rights' of Canada. The form you pictured and pasted is used by children APPLYING for citizenship based on parentage etc., you need to fully understand what you read and pasted, otherwise you make a fool of yourself.

Seconded. Either Texas or Alabama; I hear both are perfect States for foreigners who are planning to give birth in the U.S.

Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 10:42pm On Jun 21, 2015
This is not for kids born in.canada by foreigners. This is for parents who have PR or citizenship and sponsored their child to Canada so.for the child to apply for citizenship, one of the parents must be a citizen

you people are running away from Nigerian hospitals , the last time i checked our teaching and general hospitals are in good shape, why leaving our beloved nation to Usa and Canada, giving birth in those country those not give your child good future am saying with experience. I know of a family that travel abroad to deliver her babies but today those children are wayward. Remember our Shoeless President and Daura President were all born here. Up NIgeria

That's where you are wrong sir. One needs to provide proof of a Childs citizenship to get a Canadian passport. To get a certificate of citizenship the child has to have meet certain criteria. Eg: parents or a parent being a Canadian at time of birth, not just being born in Canada alone.
