Jesus who turned water into wine is not a fool. And don't think that the supposed wine does not contain alchohol.
Alchohol is good for the health, but in excess, it is bad. Moderation they said is the mother of virtues and virtue stays in the middle.
Don't quite that good paying job bro, that is not a good way to please God. Do little things out of Love and you will accomplish much.
God created every thing and said it is GOD, alchohol inclusive. It is the way that man uses what God created that evil comes in.

After reding this topic, I asked myself a question,  ''should a christian buy brewery share? If the answer in your mind is yes, then why can't you work there?
Buying their share means that you are telling them to produce more and more of the alcohol with your money.
Christianity has to do with your mind and your personal relationship with God.
As far as i am concern, I can work there without loosing my integrity and still be a good christian. Thanks

In the first place, WHY did he apply to BREWERY when he knew he was going to be in a fix deciding whether or not to pick up the job.

Be it production/factory or admin! BREWERY is BREWERY.

Maybe by the time you stay at home for another 3years after which you're offered employment in BAT then you will know whether its good for christians to work in BREWERIES or not.

Like someone said, i want to believe you've drank coke before and even taken panadol extra? So what are we talking about.

Brother!Brother!!Brother!!! Pick up ur employment letter before its too late.

According to The Word

Does Alcohol make one a Sinner? NO

the abuse does.

Does smoke make one a sinner? NO

the abuse does.

For goodness sakes. there is nicotine in Coke/ coffee e.t.c

the abuse of these is equal to that of Alchohol.

truth!!

@Deepzone

haven gone through your post i gather that the someone you know, has already made up his mind on working @ NBL Plc so woteva u gather on here wouldnt make him change his plans, seeing as he tried convincing his brethren in the fold that he wldnt be in d perceived 'evil section' of brewing/tasting the product.

my opinion is stop worrying yourself. lets be realistic here, do u know wot it means to b jobless for 3 good years in naija, especially if such person is of wooden spoon background? with the govt not caring about unemployed citizens do u really know? did u also know that in this part of the world so called men of God worship you when u got money 2 pay offerings, tithes, n woteva? how much living allowance or maintenance money was he given by the church all the while he was unemployed?  if the church and pastor, as well as naija govt can cater for his livelihood then convince him to quit the job.

Note: don't get me wrong, am not against the bible or God almighty, but annoyed @ how fellow humans use their misunderstanding of the bible 2 deprive others of their reasonable intentions.

cheers,
IFU

As the saying goes, opportunity comes but once.your friend has to utilise the chance that he has gotten, that he is a xtian does not mean he should 'nt work in a brewery.afterall i can't find the place that it was written in the bible that one should not walk in an alcohol/winery rather it was written that only those who work will eat.
Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by shreks(m): 1:20pm On Aug 20, 2008
Interesting, revealing and thought provoking topic.
I was in a bible study once where buying the shares of a brewery was discussed, the conlusion was no. But do not forget men like orhewere (a christian) the chariman of one of such companies. such questions are hard to answer in the face of limited options.
For one thing i know you cannot equate beer and wine though.
Jesus did make wine, but he was compelled to do so by mary.
So what shall we say.
christian liberty is a very dicey issue.
Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by ohaechesi(m): 1:54pm On Aug 20, 2008
honestly, it sounds sarcastic and disgusting to criticise or debating whether A Christian should work in Brewery. First, the point here is about earning a living. Remember that the bible which we practise its doctrine made it clear that whatsoever your hands fineth to do, do it. Therefore, why should one complain for being employed in Brewery company while he or she has been fasting and praying for God's favor. Even pastors can work and earn good sum from companies like that and even win souls for God than depending on sunday-sunday collection from members. My advise is that we should vegetate in the gospel rather than living in ignorance, i don't mean disdain but we should at least indemnify our approach on sensitive issues like this.

PPLE OF THE HOUSE, I 4 ONE BLIV THIS TOPIC SHOULDT HAVE COME UP AT ALL.
MY COMMENTS, IT SHOULD BE A MATTER OF BELIEF LACED WITH PRINCIPLES.

He/She applied 4 the job in the first place, wrote aptitude test, got cald 4 interviews, impressed them and got the job.
Why asking such a question after going thru all the stress. My advice to Nairalanders is the we should try to define what we want in life and from life.

I for one do not smoke nor drink, so i neva contemplate jobs like BAT ,Guinness and their likes, but i would neva scorn @ those who work there.NA THEIR CHOICE. If his bible tells him so, fine, but his principles (guarded by his beliefs also) as a man has to convince him to or not to. I REST MY CASE.

ONE LUV AND BEST WISHES TO EVRY1.

I advise every Christian to have a person relationship with God (The Holy Spirit). Once that is done the Holy Spirit will always direct ur path in everything u do. Therefore, where a christian should work will according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Remember, David did not do any thing without first asking God for direction, likewise JESUS who is our perfect example!
Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by emmydee(m): 2:41pm On Aug 20, 2008
Everyone has to fend for himself/herself. You must take care of your dependants (e.g. wife and children)

What about a christian working in condom manufacturing firm,
a pregnancy prevention drug manufacturing/marketing firm,
a gossip/ fashion magazine publishing firm
a media promotion firm(like where Guy Murrey Bruce works) that handles beauty peagent competitions?

c' mon guys think. Should you go hungry just cos u want to worship?

Plz dont come begging me for food o.
Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by InnocentC(m): 2:44pm On Aug 20, 2008
You can be working in the church and still go to hell, its a matter of what u do in the secret.
Don't 4get we still have the responsibility of changing our generation 4 God, if u can make impact for GOD, in that place GO ahead but let it be God leading u.
We cannot change our world by isolating from them, it must be thru BI- VOCATIONAL MISSION (preaching Christ through ur work/vocation and attitude).

I personally believe that God deals with each and everyone of us on different level. whatever we do and our spirit condems us not then we have boldness. Some people might get a job there and do not feel any challenge some might do and feel some challenged it depends on hoe God deals with us differently

The responses on this post shows how much brainwashing has taken place in Nigeria through all this religious nonsense.

Gosh, am I saddened.

When many of you now come abroad, you won't mind taking on any job function (Mcdonalds worker, Home Health Aide, Janitor, curiousity didn't kill the cat but opportunity did. Such NONSENSE.@!!!! ).

But in your own countries you'll be criticizing what job will get you to heaven or not.

Everything in the world is evil, if your thinking makes it so.

How does working or not working at a brewery prevent someone else from not drinking ? Don't people have a choice to drink or not.

Its not like before brewweries we did not have OGOGORO.

I also don't know what this conversation has to do with SIN. my gosh, when did it become a sin to earn a living.

When I say banning religion is a solution to Nigeria's problem, some people will be saying that I'm yarning opats, anyways sha. ALL OF YOU KEEP DECIEVING YOURSELVES.

did the brother pray to God or a job or did he contact a herbalist, i think he should dwell more of his time thanking God for answering his prayers rather than turn back to ask God why he gave him that job cause to me that is what he is doing. tongue

Therefore, where a christian should work will according to the leading of the Holy Spirit

The problem here is identifying the actual message from the holy spirit. many believers today that claim the spirit of discernment do so many ridiculous things in the name of the holy spirit. Cases of kids that have been abused, Benny Hinn's $4M, proliferation of churches, modern day born again christians treating fellow human beings like they are pariahs etc have all been blamed toward the tutelage of the holy spirit. The Jehovah's witness claim the holy spirit, the catholic, the pentecostal but the three can never agree when the bible made it categorically clear that one of the fruits of the spirit is agreement. Why do all these pastors disagree over church leadership and money even though all of them claim to be possessed by the holy spirit?
