A middle-aged man identified as Blessing Oyebode has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly using police station as bait to dupe commercial motorists in the state.

He told our correspondent on Tuesday that he had been duping motorists within the precinct of the Bar Beach police station since November 2008 before he was arrested on Saturday.

He said, "I always use police station to 'obtain' people. I will call a commercial bus driver and inform him that I have a load he will help me convey from a particular location to my residence.

"After we might have agreed on the fare, I will tell him to drive me to Bar Beach Police Station where I will collect a permit for the journey so that policemen at checkpoints will not disturb us.

"Immediately we enter the premises of the police station, I will ask the driver to quickly give me a particular sum of money that I will use to procure the permit with a promise to return the money along with his fare.

"Once I get the money, I will disappear from the station through another exit point."

Luck ran out of him on Saturday when he arrived at the station with another bus driver with a view to giving him the same treatment. He was subsequently arrested and detained.

The command's spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, said that thorough investigation would be conducted into the case.
