When South Africans were killing Nigerians telling them to go, little did they know that the national pride of South Africa - MTN , made more money from Nigeria than their entire operations in Africa. The law is the law and this government is working hard to make sense of the law. 1 Like |

MTN must quit already we are tired of the bickering. SA is not prepared to get into a childish rant with the big childish country of Africa. This is not our war but an economic world war. All investors from every corner of the world would loose something. And let the economic world games begin. ENOUGH NOISE ABOUT THIS STUPID COMPANY NEGLIGENCE IN A STUPID COUNTRY! |

In spite of several warnings from the communications commission to MTN to deactivate unregistered or partially registered sims, the corporation refused to comply. A stunt they would never pull in saner climes. They were only interested in maximising profits to the detriment of the dangers and havoc such unregistered sims were causing in their host country. This should serve as a deterrent to other multinational corporations who think they can carry on as usual. Treating the laws of the land with levity. After all UBA & Zenith banks both indigenous banks were fined for flouting presidential directives let alone MTN. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Adesiji77:. The fine will test the integrity of the APC government. Any act of corruption over the fine will finish the anti-corruption administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. If Globacom and the others agreed and signed to pay the fine, then MTN should pay the fine. And no Nigerian government official should become an apologist of MTN for selfish and suspicious ulterior motives. 1 Like 1 Share |

manny4life: A sane voice at last. Nigerians are very unhappy people and they see no hope in their immediate future. Because of this, they rather destroy than build. I wonder why anyone would fine a company to such an extent. The idiots are thinking short term. Instead of them to look for long term ways of generating revenue, like taxation, they are busy cutting of their noses to spite their faces. Whatever happens to MTN will also affect them as well in the long run. Hopeless people. |

damton: there is nothing outrageous in the fine. it was a sanction that all telcoms coys signed willingly and not under duress. Why others complied to a large extent, MTN did not even make effort to comply. people were being kidnapped with the sims, BH was using it freely in their operations etc. Should we keep sacrificing our national security because of a South African company? Tell me a sane country where they can do that and get a way with? |

If we make 37% of MTN's annual profit in 20 countries then what we shld b talking about is how to reduce d voice and data tariff by 32% since each of d 20 countries r expected 2 make an average of 5% of MTN's gain annually. |

Re: Nigeria Does Not Want MTN “to Die” From $5.2bn Fine-Communications Minister by 14(m): 1:23am On Nov 14, 2015 |
The most important question here is, can MTN be able to pay such amount? MTN probably has less than $5Billion in the bank, so if they pay, will they have cash to run 20 countries operations? The only thing that mtn would wish to get, is to split the $5bn in 10yrs or 5yrs payment, they cannot afford to pay it all at once, if they do that, they would go bankrupt. The only option left would be to leave Nigeria just to save their business. So if the NCC insists on payment to be made fully by monday, it would be game over for MTN. 1 Like |

AngryNigerian: Yes, they must pay because if "Nigeria accounts for 37 percent of revenues for MTN, which operates in more than 20 countries in Africa and the Middle East", then the murrafukas better RESPECT Nigeria and abide by its regulations. Let MTN die. In fact, kill it. From its ashes shall rise corporations that respect Nigeria, its people, and its regulations. |
