Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by Onlytruth(m): 3:05am On Nov 22, 2009 |
A white friend of mine offered a possible explanation to the unusual high rate of kidnappings and other ills befalling Ndiigbo in Nigeria today. He basically said that Ndiigbo and other Biafrans quickly forgot to honor their dead heroes. He said that Biafra might be the only case in human history where people fought a war and lost huge numbers of people (especially innocent people), and their kith and kin simply carried on as if nothing happened. Soldiers who died fighting in foreign wars are often still honored in their home countries, even if their bodies were never recovered. A complete funeral is conducted. Biafran war dead deserve such honor and must recieve it for Igboland and Nigeria to even be stable talk less of moving forward. A white man told me this! I think it is time Ndiigbo properly honor our fallen heroes and heroines. These were men and women who died fighting for us, fighting to protect us against agents of genocide. We need to pick out a particular week once every year to mourn and eulogize them. In such week of Biafran mourning, all Igbo businesses should close and Biafran flags hoisted on all streets of old eastern region, our radio stations should also play musics and tunes commemorating them. Christian and other religious services should also be conducted on the 7th day (Sunday). Also they must be eulogized with things they stood for (Biafra anthem, songs and memorabilia). This should help to rest the souls of our dead heroes.

You cannot really know where you are going until you have properly come to terms with your past. Simple logic. It is time we mourn our dead. 1 Like |

Stillwater, Its not about being hurt. Remembrance is not about being hurt and even if it is so what?. Every nation is obligated to honor its dead. If that is not acceptable in your culture then so be it but don't come here making reckless comments. Thank you. |

If they hoist Biafra flags in the Eastern region you don't think Nigeria will scatter? The only time the dead can be appeased is when. . . . |

Hat off and a moment of silence for the fallen heroes and the killed innocent civilians on both sides. Their history and stories should not be forgotten. May God's blessing help create a respectful, united, tolerant, and intelligent Nigeria in other to prevent another such war regardless of the configuration. God dey. |

Stillwater, How's my comment reckless? So all the Biafra threads on Nairaland is only about remembering the dead? You are obviously still hurt over the issue. Nothing wrong with admitting that. Hope you find peace though. |

If you want to honour your dead then make a museum exhibit in ABJ or in the East, art gallery, etc statues for the Dead. . . . . |

udezue: nah lets wait for the FG as usual But I totally agree with this, not only a museum they should be a day off in the east as well where people have to volunteer to visit old peoples home to help out or if there was a retirement home |

Dis Guy: Good. Well we are having some sort of election here n Houston (IDG) to decide what to do to help our people back home and the Biafra veterans are among the list of people we want to help out (voting on). |

THE-AMAKA: lol wetin concern me abi? simple fact im tired of seeing these damn biarfa stuvs posted every damn where its annoying. and I said yoruba guy part not for tribal reason but to refute the opinion some igbos have that yorubas want to marginalize them, wipe them out, or whatever some paranoid people may think. Whether the thread says ndigbo or not doesnt change the fact that EVERY IGBO comments on a page that has something to with a yoruba person in politics, this thread is no different. tribalistic shallow amaka |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by udezue(m): 3:31am On Nov 24, 2009 |
Sjeezy, dude please get lost. U are becoming a nuisance. If Igbo-Biafra threads dey worry u look for EgbeOmoduduwa threads or open one biko. |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by sjeezy8: 3:37am On Nov 24, 2009 |
No need to open one cause i dont shit about egbe oduduwa as of right now but you people please stop polluting every God damn thread with different stuvs. Theres a Nigeria Forum right why not post there? Nairaland for Nigerians and friends of Nigerians its not an igbo thing because this is the politics section not tribalism section so . . . . . please hush up nkem! now that i gave you my opinion lemi leave sha |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by THEAMAKA3(f): 3:45am On Nov 24, 2009 |
lol its funny how you have the NERVE to call me "tribalistic amaka" yet you said that foolish "remember a yoruba guy blah blah" comment. it DID relate to tribe in every way. you could have easily said "remember sjeezy came up blah blah" or something, but NO you had to go all out and call on the name of the almighty yoruba. i don tire oooo. anyway. |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by joeyfire(m): 10:46am On Nov 24, 2009 |
@sjeezy8 may i know just what it is you want on this thread? as usual you just seem interested in posting something nasty about igbos, prompting a strong response and starting a free for all with the usual suspects abusing themselves for at least 18 pages. |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by sjeezy8: 11:19am On Nov 24, 2009 |
sorry to disappoint you but being igbo is different then being biafran. Theres nothing in my post on this thread that bashed igbos, as i simply suggested a good idea of sjeezy8: now since some of you are paranoid ill leave you to your madness because sjeezy doesnt care if the thread is about hausa ijaw igbo yoruba or tiv. I wil comment wherever on NL. As the forum says for Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. As i stated before there is a Nigeria Forum, which i dont go and state my opinion because its for Biafrans, but this NL is for Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. Dont worry an igbo will be president of Nigeria and he will have the support of hausas-fulanis-yorubas, and it will put all the madness and misconceptions about the so called hate for igbos to death. |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by Edruezzi: 3:13pm On Nov 24, 2009 |
So, these fantasists who want another Biafra, how geographically illiterate can you guys get? You forget that Baifra worked because the consistutional machinery of Nigeria had already defiend the Eastern Region, which Ojukwu simply pulled out of the country. The Eastern region is history now. To do another Biafra you would somehow have to get the Ogoni and Ijaw and Itsekiri and Efik and Akwa Ibom to your side. I lived in Port Harcourt for two years. Ogoni people don’t particularly love Igbos. Why should they trade domination by northerners for domination by Igbo? There was no genocide plan. A couple of riots in the North isn't genocide. War is war, unfortunately. Ojukwu exposed his people to the full fury of a wartime Nigerian state when he pulled out of the Federation. |
Re: Ndiigbo & Biafrans: Time To Properly Honour Our Dead Heroes In Biafra by kegikwanu(m): 4:45pm On Nov 24, 2009 |
My proposal: Set up monuments in towns of Enugu, Owerri and Aba and a public holiday in the eastern states. This must be done whether the FG likes it or not. Every country tends to rollup its history, but the slaughterhouse Biafra was never considered but rather ignored. So as I said, we the former Biafrans must remember and salute. We owe this not only to the fallen, but also to the Easteners in general. HAIL |
