A good friend of mine who's a student {here in the U K} she's been studying here for two years now. Her visa expires end of this month. She hasn't got enough money to pay her school fees and to add to that problem from the 5th of March she's only allowed to work for 10 hours instead of 20. So she's begging me to help her do arrangee marriage so that she can get out of her predicament. She says that since am a british citizen we can do the marriage and divorce after only six months. Is that true? because i told her that i'm planning on getting married later this year and i don't want this to affect my plans.

You have to be married to her for 2yrs before she can get Indefinite Leave to Remain. So you have to weigh your options - help a friend or delay your marriage.The ball is in your court!

So its not six months like she told me. Dose the two year law only apply to foreigners? If it was britsih citizen like myself the same two year law wouldn't apply right?

If its just 6months all the illegals will have done it,moreso she needs to get approval from Home office to get married.

For pple doing courses below degree level

UK sucks. From 20 hours to 10 hours and u have to travel to Nigeria to get married as so they can deny the visa right?They must be kidding. Long Live USA.No wonder there are loads of Nigerians coming from UK to US because of the strict system.Yankee is Land of the free.If you are illegal and u are not into crime then u can live here as long as u like because major cities here are santuary cities which is illegal for police to ask for your immigration status unlike in UK where i learnt UKBA come and pick u at home for deportation.Here u don't have to return to Naija to get married.After the marriage when u file in your petition they give u Work permit to work pending the time they approve your papers.They would call u for interview after some months and if successful they give u the conditional green card which after 2 years u are still married they would give u 10 years Permanent greencard and a year after that u can file for citizenship.So the marriage would only last for 2 years.
If your friend has the means she can come to America and get her papers.She would only transfer her credits to a college here.It is easier for girls to get papers than for a guy.Also, she can easily get a visa from UK than from Naija.If she want to go to Naija for the marriage she's on a Long Thing cos they would definitely refuse her and she won't be able to return.
Why must Nigerians continue to waste their time in UK especially the illegals.Come yankee and see things for youyrself.

just be smart dnt do arrange wedding with someone who cnt even speak english for Godsakes

If my knowledge is accurate, i think the girl is not eligible for marriage in the UK because, under the UK law, in order to qualify for a registry, the remainder of a non citizen's visa or residence permit must exceed six month before expiration. In this case of a one month remainder before expiration, i'm afraid she's not eligible to apply for registry in the UK; you guys would have to do that in Nigeria, but that does not guarantee her a visa, though.
My advise: Every risk is worth taking if the benefit outweighs the sacrifice, so, i advice you to balance the sacrifices and the benefits in a sensitive scale of probability and decide your conclusion: and remember that you have to be safe to save someone and that you can not rescue a drowning person while you can't rescue yourself lest both of you drown together.

How about doing it the normal way, u got more than 2yrs left, you can meet somebody, fall inlove and get married without paying for it, arrangee is risky, if u paid the money and she refused to corporate there is nothing u can do about it, you can't even complain.

Its up to you anyway but value ur options and the downsides IF it backfires.

   YES, if she had 6 months or more left on her visa or residence permit, then it would be possible for her to marry in the UK, and NO, you can not divorce her just after 6 months, it would take at least 2 years before you are eligible to apply for divorce, and might take a very long window period (time) for the divorce application to be approved. Some people in legitimate marriages have waited for more that 3 years for the approval of their divorce applications even though they are seperated with their spouses.

First of all, You have to show evidence of communication with the lady b4 a dependant visa is given for 2 yrs

I hope you know how much it costs to get a divorce in UK.    No be small money oooo and besides it takes time for a case to be decided!

Secondly, The system has a way of getting into pple especially some naijas in uk; What gives you the impression once you marry her she wont change and refuse to get divorced.

  Actually, he wouldn't always have to thick a divorce box when filling a form if he re-marries, his current marital situation will be the valid status when filling a form.
   Apart from that, i think your advice is brilliant. And to add to the already good advice, Mr. Manmustwack should bear in mind that in the event of divorce, his "arrangee" wife would be entitled to half of his wealth; and this will not look good on him if his wife decides to legally challenge him with her entitlement of sharing his entire money and and assets by half.

i think if u study for 10 years you'll be eligible for citizenship or if you've been an illegal alien for 15 years you'll be eligble for citizenship.

She told me just now that she spoke to her lawyer who said its possible for us to get married and i'm going to see her tomorrow morning to discuss the whole thing. I'll keep u guys posted. Thanx.
