The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, over his torn campaign billboards.

Agbaje had posted a video of the torn billboards on social media on Saturday, lamenting lack of a level playing ground for candidates in the state.

He was said to have also petitioned the police over the matter.

The police spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the PDP candidate’s petition, said there was no way the command could deploy policemen to monitor all campaign materials in the state.

He noted that the command would rather adopt the ‘Aberdeen System.’

Oti, who released a statement on the incident, said the CP had decided to invite the Independent National Electoral Commission, party candidates and chairmen for a meeting.


He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, this December 1, 2018, around 9:15am, received a complaint from the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, to the effect that his campaign boards were vandalised and removed by unknown persons. The complainant went further to post his concern on the social media alleging the vandalisation and removal of the aforementioned items.

“To this end, the CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, to set up a monitoring team comprising the command’s Riders Unit, to daily monitor and arrest anybody seen vandalising or defacing campaign posters or boards.

“In addition, the Commissioner of Police has directed that invitation letters be sent to state chairmen of all political parties in the state, their candidates, the INEC and other stakeholders for a meeting scheduled to hold on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 11am, at the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ikeja.

“This is to further drive home the fact that there is no alternative to peace and the need for all political parties, their candidates and supporters to shun acts capable of breaching public peace.

He said, “constrained by limited manpower, there is no way the command could post policemen to cover all campaign posters in the state but the much it can do, is to adopt the Aberdeen System in protecting campaign adverts and to solicit the cooperation of all and sundry in ensuring the maintenance of law and order.’

Ordinarily, this Sanwo guy is no match for Agbaje on whatever parameter you weigh them (experience, exposure, vision, independence), but, heck a typical Yorubaman or woman votes on sentiments. Even Ambode was no match for Agbaje, based on the pre-election TV debate. But does the average Yoruba Lagos resident consider that? Nope. He/she just wants to know the party that is 'tinwa-tinwa,' our own, Yoruba party' and that has nothing to do with Igbo. A classic act of deep rooted tribalistic nature.

Agbaje,OBJ Fayose, FFK and co are not so popular in the SW cos they're broad-minded, largely de-tribalized, think from a national perspective and has followers outside the region. To become like Tinubu or Fashola in SW, be a regional champion and talk about tinwa-tinwa and SW interests only. Unfortunately, these characters can never be president in Nigeria, contrary to the daydream of their deluded worshippers.

Do you know the main reason the average Yoruba supports APC? Pure sentiments. 1. It is in part ACN - a clearly regional party. 2. Osinbajo is vice president. 3. PDP does not have any major Yoruba person at the head

What happened 2015 to APC billboards and posters? Where are those people he hired in 2015 to destroy APC/Ambode posters? Why can't him hire them to secure his posters and billboards? Though not in support of destruction but he didn't condemn it when it was done in his favour through GANI/OPC. I never set my eyes on Jimi Agbaje posters or billboard and I live on mainland, Alimosho to be precise.
