POLICE NAB FOUR NIGERIAN STUDENTS, SEIZE DRUGS WORTH RM30,000

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Police believe they have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate that was actively involved in selling drugs to students at higher learning institutions, with the arrest of four Nigerian students in Taman Serdang Perdana yesterday.

Serdang police chief Supt. Abdul Razak Elias said the four students, in their 30s, were detained during a raid at 8.15pm in a rented three-storey shop house and seized drugs worth RM30,000.

"During the raid, police found 10.7kg of ganja, a number of hand phones and 2,260 Thai Bhats (RM450) from the house that they have been renting for about five months," he told reporters here today.

Abdul Razak said initial investigations revealed that the syndicate was involved in the distribution of drugs at higher learning institutions.

Police did not rule out the possibility that the drugs were smuggled in from Thailand while the four would be charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence if convicted.

He added that police would closely monitor higher learning institutions to combat drug trafficking activities among students.
