I was impressed with Sanwo-Olu from the onset when he came into power, but I just don't understand what he is doing now.
Transportation has gone up everywhere in Lagos after the Okada and keke ban....he chased Opay, Gokada and the rest away, now he wants to do this to Uber and Taxify?
Like seriously, what does he want people who are relying on this medium to feed their families to do?

This is beyond cruel.

The etrnansport was supposed to be operated under the rader.
The OWNER of the car should do the driving with confidence.
And he carries the passengers as if it is his friends he's carrying.
Then no VIO, or road safety can stop you, ask for papers or discover that it is business you are doing.

Instead, Nigerians went and gave their car to a house-boy looking driver.
The houseboy, then carries passengers who sit in the BACK SEAT.
This then makes him really look like a houseboy.
He then compounds the issue by holding the steering LIKE A HOUSEBOY, instead of like a bigboy.

Any VIO, or road safety that see the car approaching from a distance will know that:
1. This guy driving is a driver (houseboy)
2. That car is not his own.
3. He must be employed by somebody else.
4. He's carrying a passenger.
5. Let's stop him and collect money.
--
By the time you start trying to prove that you don't have money, VIO and co, take the matter up to Lagos state... as they've just done,
and kukuma FINE the whole company UBER and BOLT.
Your runs done spoil now.
your got it wrong oga. Do the car owners own the apps? NO! So how can they operate under radar? Uber and Taxify etc the e-hailing companies own the apps. And they can't operate under radar if they want to get popular among the customers. How will customers know about them if they don't promote their platform. The main problem and reason why the Lagos State Agbero govt wants to destroy Uber and Taxify is because ever since they came on board, they have destroyed the monopoly the yellow taxi union and the airport cab unions were enjoying. A passenger will arrive at the airport, from Ikeja to Ajah, they will charge him 20k, he has no choice but to pay, cuz plane landed at 1:30am, not safe to move on the night with luggages, so he takes the taxi from the airport taxi union. Same thing yellow taxi. You're stranded in the middle of nowhere at night you spot and flag down a dilapidated taxi, for a distance of 5KM, he will charge u 5K, because he knows u are stranded and don't have a choice before criminals will come and cut your head where you are on the road. You pay and move. Those guys were always smiling to the bank until Uber and Taxify came. What airport taxi union will charge 20K, Uber car will do it 5K or 6K; what yellow taxi with their dead car will charge 4K, Uber with a/c and comfort will charge N700, and u will still be controlling d driver like your houseboy, u don't have to go on the road to hustle for car to flag down, they will come and meet you at the comfort of where u are. So people hurriedly abandoned all those guys and switched to Uber and Taxify. Those guys weren't smiling to bank again, they were hungry, cars were parked down most of the time. They hated Uber and Taxify with passion and have been looking for ways to send them out of town. No matter what they did, Uber and Taxify became more popular, so they have to resort to the last option, govt agbero power to step in. Why will govt help them? Because those guys are their political thugs, and the boys they use to have a firm grip on political power in Lagos. Yellow taxi union is part of NURTW, the agbero union thug wing of the the Lagos Agbero govt. The ones that snatch ballot boxes and do their dirty work in getting rid of opposition. What of airport taxi union, they are mainly retirees or ex- agbero or comrades partner in association with yellow taxi union. They know themselves and shared the mafia territory among themselves to generate revenue and settle their senior Agberos in connect with govt. So now the agbero govt has no choice than to step in to crush Uber and Taxify. Their agbero support union boys are too hungry, something must be done to chase Uber and Taxify out for good. So this is not even about revenue alone, they want those guys out for good, so everything can go back to the normal status quo where agbero controls the transport system in Lagos. EKO Agbero Oni Baje o grin

Isnt that why our licensing fee is greatly lowered?

N5,000,000 for those with 1000 drivers translate to N5,000 yearly as licensing fee for each Uber driver.
I do not think that is too much sir.
10% of the total passenger revenue goes to the Lagos state government.
That is besides the normal company tax and this Registeration fee.

They want to end the business.

I hope they would also require regular cabs to be 2017 upwards.

LASG has gone completely nuts.

Well thought out policy.

Excellent policy.

As it stands, you will need a 2017 vehicle worth at least 8m for the biz. I'm sure that won't be too difficult for a fresh graduate to afford. And for the guys using the 2005 - 2008 corrolas and camries, all they need do is trade-in their vehicles, add between 6 and 7 million which is extremely easy to get in Nigeria today and get back on the road

I just don't know if some of you have any humanity left in you.

This is wickedness of the highest order. Uber and bolt drivers couldn't work for months due to the pandemic, and now that things are getting normalised, the state government is coming with this BS. the most painful aspect of it is that the money they would raked in will be looted and not used for the masses. Lagos hasn't been bad as this Sanwo's tenure. The man is not in touch with the masses.

The man is an employee of Bola Tinubu. Tinubu is presently piling up cash for his 2023 ambition.

Don't expect any development from LASG until that project is done wuth.

I'm sure that location where you pay 800k in Enugu is much better than Ojodu or Ogba. Try to rent a 3 bed in Ojodu or Ogba and let's see how much it costs.

In any case, price of cement in Lagos is the same , if not cheaper than price of cement in my village.

What's the difference between Uber and a guy with a car that can easily gets called up whenever his services is needed to go drop or pick somebody up, and still gets paid?

Has Uber not been paying taxes to the government before?

Seems the government isn't tired of some vices going on in Lagos.

For every company driven away, over 10 good guys becomes bad guys who are ready to cause havoc and see it as a norm, just to ensure they survive.

Little things the government turns away from, are the little things that are causing massive problems all over the country.

Life in Nigeria is not easy. Those in power do not know this, because, they have enough to dwell on.

There are three sides to these taxation things..... The company owners.....the employers and the consumers....

The company owners will never loose.....they LL simply increase their prices, lower the product quality or fold up.....

The employers always loose.....it's either their salaries are cut or they loose their jobs....

The consumers always loose....it's either they pay more.....get reduced quality....or loose the product completely....

The government has proven that they can't provide jobs..... If they keep chasing everyone that provides jobs for the masses away with greed we will have more crime on our hands.....and they will keep spending more money on security......

Yes the very extra money they gain from taxes will be spent on combating crime.

We need leaders with brains

Uber and Bolt won't worry too much.

With 5000 drivers on their platform

They will just ask their 5000 drivers to pay Lagos state registration fee levy.

10m ÷5000 drivers =N2,000 naira per driver operator.

25m ÷5000 drivers = N5,000 naira per driver operator.

Problem solved. Uber and Bolt continues operation.

Wrong timing. Charging ride sharing companies more than actual taxi companies is odd. They don’t own these vehicles!

We all know this is to pave the way for EkoCab. Na wa.

I strongly disagree with your opinion. If you calmly digest the article, you will see that a Ekocab will pay the same charges as others. Why not try to investigate the consultant in charge of the entire regulation enforcement as mentioned in the article before blaming a possibly innocent firm?

Just don't complain when Uber or Bolt tells you to pay N5000 for a 1 hour trip.

You people should keep running your mouth. Government don't give a fck about you, that's why the regulation is all about them, how much they want as taxes, 10% service fee on all trips, licensing fee, annual renewal of licenses, etc. It's all about them, not you the consumer who seems to know too much on how to protect a corrupt and useless government.

He can never complain. He doesnt even have the app on his phone.

let me help out with what this means. uber and bolt might not comply (esp uber an international coy) and might force them out of biz which will lead to the govt rolling out their own cab hailing services kitted with all the accessories.

Well summarized.

This is in fact the plan.

Government will roll out thier own personal rides and bikes when they have chased out the potential investors.

But it would still be a private affair not government owned.
Re: Lagos To Enforce Regulations On Ride Hailing Companies From August 20 by armadeo(m): 1:57pm On Aug 12, 2020

The mistake Nigerians made with Uber is that the owner of the car gave it to ANOTHER person to drive.
That person is now a DRIVER, who can be intimidated.

Uber is really a big boy affair. I buy my Bughatti Veyron. Then register myself on Uber.
Anybody calls me to pick them, and I just cruise my ride and pick up the person.
Nobody knows! Lagos state will not notice that I'm doing business because I'm just chilling as a big boy in my super car.
That is how Uber was supposed to be, and I guess that is how they do it overseas.

But Nigerian car owners felt TOO BIG to drive their car. And gave it to a house-boy looking driver.
Road safety and other road officials were able to profile such persons as NOT THE OWNER of the car.
If you're not the owner, then you are a hired driver.
Next thing, they categorise you with local transport and start demanding payments and other fees and certificates.
But you still have private number plate.
Now you are mixing with the small boys and can't escape.

See them now, Uber and Bolt refusing to come to attend the meeting.

So many flaws in your argument.

1. Nobody would buy a Bugatti and use for uber. Never ever. That is not how it's done overseas or on Mars.

2. Nobody feels to big to drive and uber. Many peeps on the platform actually own thier cars. Others give out the cars to drivers as an investment. I know one who has upto 8 cars on uber, will he drive all 8.

3. They cannot just profile you as not the owner of the car. The drivers I've seen dont look rough ( except on one occasion). They all appear neat. It affects your stats incase you dont know.
