Y shld a App/Org come to our country/state without bin properly licensed and not taxed? R they not making money here? Can they try that abroad?

Lagos state is very right. There should be regulations. Anybody cant come from nowhere and start operating like it is their right. Do u know what it takes to open a business entity abroad?

Did you read the article at all?

Or you miss the place where they said Taxi Cab must be brand new, or within 3 years from the manufacture date.

How many people in Nigeria can afford a 2018 model car (3 years from production date) OR a brand new car? And how many of such people will go ahead to use it as Taxi?

If you ask me, someone is probably pulling all this strings. They probably want to pave way for a new Taxi service.

don't mind the thieves. If every state replicates half of what Lagos is doing, the country will be a fantastically chaotic mess. If every state issues their own driving license, that means to move from one state to another in Nigeria, you need to carry 35 licenses + FG license making it 36. It's not their fault at all. That's what you get when your FG is as useless as the gold on Neptune. If the FG was not useless, they will have put their foot down and scrapped that useless LASDRI of a thing. Why will the FG approve and give me a driving license to drive freely within Nigeria and then one useless state govt will now say I must get another license as if they are not part of Nigeria. And worst of it is that the useless LASDRI is nothing but another agbero extortion policy, not even about public safety. Just pay 2K bribe and get it same day. Renewable every year, more money for the thieves grin.
One of the negative consequences of having Lagos and Abuja in the same party.

No more Federal oversight.
Lagos can now misbehave fully.

What's the difference between Uber and a guy with a car that can easily gets called up whenever his services is needed to go drop or pick somebody up, and still gets paid?

Has Uber not been paying taxes to the government before?

Seems the government isn't tired of some vices going on in Lagos.

For every company driven away, over 10 good guys becomes bad guys who are ready to cause havoc and see it as a norm, just to ensure they survive.

Little things the government turns away from, are the little things that are causing massive problems all over the country.

Life in Nigeria is not easy. Those in power do not know this, because, they have enough to dwell on.
cool

Abeg leave am there. These companies are making a killing in Nigeria. Didn't France ban Uber even London city had been made plans to curb Uber and other taxi hailing companies. 10% of fees o every transaction is very reasonable.

Business that make a profit don't run away it's the ones who are not making money that run, how many other cities in the world can Uber claim access to over 20million residents and another 1-2 million business and tourism visitors weekly.

If it's someone behind the scenes orchestrating this, then it is a case of black Africans hating themselves by doing things that are detrimental to themselves...

2017 tokunbo Corolla costs nothing less than N7.5m for accident free car. So they want someone to invest N7.5m to buy a Corolla for Uber and pick passenger from Lekki phase one to VI for N700 after spending 2 hours in traffic and hot sun, and the passenger will say Oga dis ur A/C is not blowing na, increase it to highest grin. He will spend N400 on fuel, Uber collects like N100, this useless agbero govt too will collect N100 and then the driver will be left with nothing. After 3 months the car will pack up cuz of the destructive roads and traffic. N7.5m gone down the drain. Only the most dumbest mumu in the world will invest in such a business. Even danfo buses dat are moving coffins with no a/c, no comfort, zero service, are more profitable than Uber.

I love your brutal analysis.

Nigeria, so good in killing start ups and job opportunities....every damn govt is only interested in stifling the growth of any start up, SMEs etc....whereas our counterparts are busy declaring the number of jobs added, this useless govt is busy calculating the number of jobs lost and sadly they derive pleasure in impoverishing the masses, saner climes are busy granting tax waivers to start ups to encourage growth of businesses and job creation but in Nigeria they prefer to kill you with tax before you even dream of establishing your business...tufia!

You call uber a company that has being in existence in Nigeria for over 5yrs a start up?

We admire developed countries but resist the taxation that made them develop

We are a confused, entitled and subjective bunch of people. Oil prices have reduced drastically and the pandemic has crippled the world's economy yet foreign biz running profitably in our country shouldn't be taxed because we have a defective reasoning process where everything the Govt does should be opposed at all cost

Na who we offend for this country sef wey no gree forgive us make our people for have small sense?

Isnt that why our licensing fee is greatly lowered?

N5,000,000 for those with 1000 drivers translate to N5,000 yearly as licensing fee for each Uber driver.
I do not think that is too much sir.

So its ok for a company to come and set up here without been licensed and paying taxes. What u shld talk abt is the corruption n leadership failure..wat is right is right. Govt generates money from these avenues...during these covid 19 drama, civil servants r getting paid n all. Where do u think these monies come from?

Y'all, shld stop been sentimental. I aint running my mouth pls. Revolution starts from when we start doing right n reason properly. because 9ja is bad, foreigners shld come n misnehave too. Do u know they repatriate money made here back to their country. And u r here wailing...

The part that states a brand new car or within 3yrs of production can be reviewed. If there is an outcry from the operators. They can always meet and negotiate. I remember when Uber drivera protested too n the company later adjusted. So its not a one way thing.

This is a very useless policy to say the least, alot persons, businesses especially start ups are barely surviving instead of the government to create an enabling environment to support them, they will rather frustrate them as a result of their greed with anti-people policies,

Shame on Lagos state government

You have to realize that Lagos needs Uber and Bolt more. Uber can walk away with no second thought. At some point, Uber Inc. left India, Netherlands, UK, and Germany for the same reason. They don't give a fvk about Nigeria, so fact remains that a city like Lagos that is filled with joblessness and underemployment can't afford to lose these companies.

What you failed to realize is that a bulk of the expenses would be paid by YOU and other end-users. You really think Uber Inc would send some dollars down to Lagos to offset bills? Lol

You, the consumer will pay the 10% service fee on all trips.
You, the consumer will pay the licensing fee.
You, the consumer will pay the yearly registration fee in some ways.

When you, the consumer is frustrated to the extent that you longer want to pay N5000 for an hour trip, you will stop patronising Uber and Bolt.

That means less profit for Uber Inc and Bolt.

At the end of the day, these companies will pack their bags and walk away. They don't have any assets here (not even a car), so no losses.

The losers: Uber drivers, Investors, Consumers.

The gainers: Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu

Lagos govt didnt ban okada and keke o

so the poor shouldnt pay taX abi? As long as u are making money....but the tax should not be too much.....

My only problem with lagos state govt is what are they doing with the taX....most roads are in terrible shape, zero public toilets, effective transportation system, no well equipped hospitals, etc
