JONATHAN AND ZERO ALLOCATION FOR AJAOKUTA STEEL

It is expected that the National Assembly as the lawmaking body should be able to do something about the inclusion of allocation for the completion of Ajaokuta Steel in the country’s budget. For all intents and purposes, our federal parliamentarians at the two chambers should, as a matter of urgency, make provisions for Ajaokuta Steel and NIOMCO in the current budget before them and pass a resolution on why the President must execute the project.

https://thewillnigeria.com/news/opinion-jonathan-and-zero-allocation-for-ajaokuta-steel/

The useless looting and stealing PDP and Jona did not even bother to budget to allocate 1 kobo for Ajaokuta, they just didn't give a damn.

Sadly, some hateful and bitter anti Nigerian losers want these worthless characters to come back.

God forbid.

That's why you shouldn't be Hypocritical. You'll see difference if you could juxtapose era where oil was over a $100 per barrel to this era with the achievements of the duo

You will never learn.

Buhari wasn't selected to run a country awashed with oil riches and stability, he was selected because the country had high expectation that he would instil discipline, security and managed the resources effectively, he has failed on all account.

Back to $100 per barrel oil . Even if oil was $1000 per barrel Nigeria will still be poor, exporting oil will never improve Nigeria economy as long as the country is a large importer of refined oil and industrial goods and services.

The minister of petroleum still refuse to upgrade, repair or sell the 3 refineries that are consuming billions of Naira, despite not refining one drop of oil.

The problem is that all Nigeria leaders lack the knowledge to leverage Nigeria competitive advantage in agriculture, steel and petrochemicals.

Nigeria is the largest producer of Cassava in the world, yet Thailand generated $3.1 billion from exporting Cassava starch.

The stubborn insistence on continuing to throw money at white elephants like Ajaokuta and the NNPC refineries is all the proof one needs that most Nigerian leaders have absolutely no understanding of basic economics: some projects are simply not worth spending more effort on, no matter how much time and effort one might already have spent on them, and to continue regardless is to fall victim to the sunk cost fallacy.

Even if Ajaokuta were to be magically completed tomorrow, it will never ever make a profit. The Soviet-era technology in it was already obsolete back in 1983 when Shagari was boasting about its impending completion, and since then Chinese steelmakers have been driving even the biggest and most advanced American and European steelmakers into bankruptcy, even before the COVID-19 crisis killed demand for steel. Under such circumstances, there is more likelihood of a random Nigerian jumping in the air and touching the moon than there is of this ridiculous money-pit ever justifying spending even one more dollar on it. The money would be better spent on improving primary and secondary education, so that more Nigerians would have the requisite knowledge to see announcements like this one for the follies they are.

So u prefer going to school and graduating to do nothing?

What we need now is infrastructure.. That can accommodate graduates..
Fixing the steel plants won't stop the government from improving in education.

What good is infrastructure that can't be maintained by the locals? What has happened to all of the previous grand infrastructure projects that foreigners have built and left behind for Nigerians to maintain? Can you mention a single such public project that remains in good working order 5 years afterwards?

As for the idea that throwing yet more money down the Ajaokuta black hole won't interfere with improving education, you must live in an alternate universe where quality education costs nothing and teachers, books, and school buildings can all be had for free ...

Nigeria needs USD 880 million to complete Ajaokuta Steel

Steel News - Published on Sun, 01 Nov 2009

It has also revealed that the federal government would require about USD 500 million for the completion of the steel complex and another USD 380 million for the provision of infrastructure such as rail lines and roads.

It subsequently directed the Inspector General of Police Mr Ogbonna Onovo to tighten up security at both companies as part of measures to put a stop to alleged looting of assets. In adopting the resolutions contained in a motion, the lawmakers urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to abide by an earlier directive of the House to complete and commission the project without further delay.

Mr Shagari had in his lead debate informed the House that the original contractors that built the Ajaokuta Steel Company, PTE Russia have told the Federal Government that $500 million would be required to complete work on the industrial complex while $380 million would be needed for the provision of supportive infrastructure such as roads, rail lines and electricity.

He however lamented that though the Federal Government has expended over USD 4.6 billion on the steel company, there are inadequate measures to protect the investment as there is massive looting of properties in the complex which is already 98% complete.

https://www.steelguru.com/steel/nigeria-needs-usd-880-million-to-complete-ajaokuta-steel/118402

1. The above report about Ajaokuta was published back in 2009 with the same claim what the project was 98% complete so what this man said in 2020 wasn't new, he clearly opined the truth as stated in many reports years ago and year after year till today.

2. Before asking me why it;s going to take another 3 years, you should be asking what happened since 2009 and for all the years GEJ spent in office?

Nigerian earned more oil money under GEJ than any other administration in Nigeria, have you asked yourself why GEJ didn't complete the project or why he did not come up with common $1 bill needed to complete the project.?

3. GEJ and Okonjo stole our $2.3 billion and gave it to Dasuki ATM to share with his crooked cronies like FFK, Metuh, Fayose and others, why not just take $1 billion out of that money to finish the project?

4. You want the current administration to finish in 3 years what past administrations couldn't get past the 98% completion since 2009 or even before.

In 2016, the Buhari administration settled the pending court case around the project. This has enabled the FG to take control of the project and drive its resuscitation.

https://nairametrics.com/2020/05/13/mining-fg-inaugurates-team-to-revive-ajaokuta-steel-company/

5. You obviously don't know too much about this project, the current administration just settled the decade old wranglings and lawsuits that past administrations couldn't settle for the project to progres, this government couldn't do anything until the lawsuits are settled which they did in 2016.

6. In late 2019, PMB went to Russia to seek commitment from Russia to complete the project, Russia agreed and COVID - 19 happened as explained in the article.

Instead of reading and responding to just the headlines, let us read or do a little research before jumping into conclusions.

Ajaokuta was buried under decades of rubbish, corruption, legal tussles and lawsuits, but today, we have the money and Russia is ready to go to work and finish the project,
