There is a reason why economies with very huge gap between the wealthy and poor are rated lower with than those having far lesser gap. UI may have some outstanding achievers but on the average, the gap between the top guys and not so top guys is so huge, it can only be attributed to one thing, and that is personal development from the top guys. UI has no strong impact on those that pass through the school. Let us be frank. In he 1960s when UI started producing grads, the market was uncompetitive and that gave them a huge advantage. You didn't need to be outstanding to be hot cake in the job market.
Just now, a thread was created about a pharmacy student blazing the trail from UI. It is the best school in Nigeria, for now.

That's the problem. They always have 9999 below average minds for one outstanding one. it would have been far better if they end up with one outstanding mind for every 9999 not so outstanding or slightly above average minds.

We know MOST private schools here are just profit driven not really quality centered. I've seen quite a number of their products and honestly, I'm not impressed. However, I give kudos to Covenant and only Covenant.

That's a speculation. UI averages about half a million in funds received from govt per student per year. CU had better facilities and charged N170k for a start so tell the world how is CU profit driven?

Dr. Lazarus Maigoro,

For over 7 decades that public education started in Nigeria, tell me exactly what the public education system that incubated you with a certificate worth no more than a single roll of toilet paper has benefitted the country?

What game changing patents in manufacturing, banking & finance, telecommunications have you, your students or any of your colleagues with "full brain" provided industry?

If all universities in the US are halted today, the US stock market would crash because their universities are the engines of innovation and supply of high skilled human capital.

If all public universities in Nigeria cease working for one month, the stock market won't even notice. Industry goes unconcerned. This is because you and your colleagues at ASUU actually constitute a burden to both industry and government.

You supply graduates that need retraining after four years of a retrogressive curriculum. Your value is so low priced that you can't generate your own salary through your effort except government gives you money.

The entire founding team of Paystack, PiggyVest, Quidax, ThriveAgric are from Babcock University - can you stand any of them in terms of contribution to national development?

Piggyvest was founded by Covenant University graduates.

PAYSTACK by Babcock. You are right about that. But that guy had been coding even before he got into Babcock.

Same with Piggyvest. Those guys did not study anything remotely connected to management or investment.

That is what I tell people. Universities don't usually make people. People develop themselves.

That is why you will have people who never graduated still becoming successful. For example, Bill Gates and Mark Zukerberg.

Anyone who thinks going to school is enough, will end up suffering.

Many people are in fields that they did not even study in school.

A co- founder of Piggyvest studied Engineering at Covenant. He later developed interest in coding, and then discovered the idea for Piggyvest on Twitter. His success has no noticeable connection to his formal education at Covenant University.

As long as you can say same for public universities, maybe I would agree.

But then let me remind you that what makes a successful venture goes way beyond technical abilities. Foresight, leadership, exploiting opportunities are also part of the success story that Covenant teaches her community.

Na public universities dey "quality centered"? I laugh you bros. Public universities that lecturers know that if dem no come class, nobody go beat dem or do dem anything? Is that the one that is "quality centered"? You fail to know that one way these private universities get patronage is through referrals. They are continuously trying hard to improve standard of education, so that they'll create a better image; public universities doesn't give a Bleep. The standard of education in public universities is almost dead abeg. No dey deceive yourself

The same can be said about every university, whether public or private.

But it gets worse for private universities because they spoon-feed their children students, instead of allowing them explore the world within the University.

I know a lot of rich people that want to have nothing to do with a private-owned university
They say it breed half-baked graduates
An average Public university graduate will be a better all-rounder

theFilmtricsay

nonsense... what kind of mentality is this? private universities breed half-baked graduates? I take this as a joke. govt universities that have failed their students already. see guy, in case you have children and u want ur kids to finish school with a good mentality and finish at the right time, take them to a private university or send them abroad. just pray to God for the dough and try ur best. don't glorify public universities that try to frustrate students and make them fail. education shouldn't be a battlefield. it should rather be a joy to engage in just like in schools abroad. na poverty dey keep many people for public universities. poverty must die and our govt must restructure these public universities. they are dying and education standards have dropped. by the way, that ur comment of a public University student being better all round is wrong. everything actually depends on one's personality and ability. the bottom line is private universities provide better learning environment unlike public universities

You are right about this however most schools use the achievement of their graduate to boast. Some students from public universities ignorantly boast of their schools producing the best
