Why the sudden rise in comparison between America and Nigeria..

Because things are so hard in Nigeria we are merely working for survival. That's why the fuse about salaries.

People in America just work to pay bill and feed themselves and if by the end of the day they couldn't afford to build a house or achieve much, they will have still lived a better life than a rich man in Nigeria..

You see all these Yahoo boys with flashy cars and mansions for a house, their maga abroad are mostly average citizens..

People that are poor abroad can make someone in Nigeria millionaire. That's to show you the difference between the standard of living and quality of life..

Thank you

This your comparison with 100k for naija and 400k for America per month is bullshit. Nobody earns 400k naira in America if you are working. It's farcmore than that. What you should compare is the minimum wage. 30k for naija a month and 3k for U. S PER HOUR. So because of this, the rent is high. Remember, U. S is a high earning nation which pays taxes on many things ; property tax et all. And you can't use more than one car at a time. So no need to accumulate cars cos of taxation. It's easier to make money from U. S and return to naija than to make money from Naija and go to the U. S. If u know the benefits of living in a developed country as against Naija. Then staying there is worth it no matter the tax.

I understand your feeling, but one of the major mistakes you made was to plan or leave the house you rented for 250 pounds as a student

One of the really easy ways to make it in the UK and the years would not turn to years upon years with nothing to show for it is either to live with a family member for free or a parent for free or for next to nothing or you just continue living life like a frugal student

Yes its almost unexplainable having a professional job on a good salary but still living in a a cramped student house with sometimes no heating or cooking

Even girls wont want to date you, cos you wont even try bringing girls home

But the benefit is that you will have a lot of disposable income left, a lot of it

The idea is that you bring this to nigeria as capital and try something out with it

Or bettter still after the years accumulate, get a mortgage in the uk but beware it may make you trap you into the UK system

Trust me there is no other way around it living in the UK except above

The other way is credit card fraud or something else

just speaking from experience bro
£180 was the cheapest rent I paid. The house was near the university.
But my job was in another town, and I had to pay transport monthly.
After graduation, I ran to that town to cut off transport money. But the cheapest house rent there was £250 per month in that town.
So what did I now save?
Oyibo know how to chop your money. Nowhere to hide.
I lived in a so called northern town, where they say things were cheaper.
The Nigerian guys that lived in London, the southern part of the country were paying like £400 per month.
Those ones were working 24 hrs. Them no even fit concentrate on their studies.

I have been to over 20 countries in my life and have lived in over 10 countries.

Yes, over there, an employer will go to the University career building and advertise these kind of low skill jobs on the university website, or some pamphlet on the school notice board.
You are the one that will run after the employer to beg for the job. The only thing is that because you are a student, the employer cannot keep you more than 4 hrs per day. So that is part-time work. Plus you still have to read your book and pass your course O.
You can't do full time 8hrs, until you graduate.

The misconception the op is having is because of the currency involved . A weaken currency like Naira look much and a good currency like dollar look small. But the power and value can't be compared. 100k rent might look big for a month rent in US because you've converted it to our naira but do you also forget you earn in dollar. You get paid in dollar and jobs over there is base on hourly rate and you can do more than a job over there. You do a job for savings only and while the other job take care of your feeding and accommodation . Can you do that here in Nigeria ? You can only do a job here because the restriction is 8 to 5 daily .

On daily basis you can't guarantee the value of the money you have in your savings account as naira keep deteriorating ,if inflation rate is 20 % Just know that you've lost 20% value of what ever amount you have in savings . Investment is to help hedge inflation but do we have any investment that can give you 20% return ? Not possible . They can only give a little above a single digit which help to reduce the effect of inflation on your investment while those who those invest will lose 20% value. Does the one happen in the US ? The US dollar is strongly stable hence you can't compare standard of living between Nigeria and US . Food items are subsidized in the state ,do we have any food items subsidized here in Nigeria ?

You get tax refund yearly from the government ,do we have tax refund here in Nigeria ?You have access to sane environment, healthcare system, security, and other better infrastructures to increase the quality and span of life . But here in Nigeria is a death Zone. You have a system that works and far ahead of Nigeria in billion years.

You are correct. But most Nigerians will not understand this write up.

When you tell them that a litre of petrol in the US is about N400 and you can pay up to N75,000 monthly electrical bills for a two bedroom apartment and close to a million naira monthly rent even in low brow areas of New York, they don't believe. Heck, even a bottle of Coca Cola is N500. By the way, these are old prices from around 2014. I don't know what prices are like now.
In comparison to what, a place where things are cheap but people could barely afford it?

I'm just smiling reading these.

My rent as a student for my single room when converted from Euro should come to around $650 per month bills inclusive.

Some of my fellow Nigerian students who lost their jobs get almost twice this amount as covid-support from the government per month and have similar, costlier or a bit cheaper accommodation.

OP simply threw figures into the air and forgot the PPP and HDI Index reality. Some countries are truly relatively expensive by cost of living but you simply don't throw standard of living and benefits derived in living dignified (even as a student, now imagine someone that works fulltime) through the window.

I dont know if you are trying to say Nigeria is better of to live than America but if you did,
stop misleading people. How many people in Nigeria can make 100k a month or even a year? The money you make in America will feed you well monthly with change after bills and still send home. I make $15000 weekly ooo not biweekly. Guy maybe you just came into America or you are just a blogger who has been lied to. America is a country blessed with jobs. America jobs are 8 times high than Canada. God bless America. And as for sending money home, who wants to invest in a crazy country like Nigeria?
bloggerblogger2:
YOU MAY AGREE OR DISAGREE.

A 100K monthly salary earner in Nigeria is better than a 400K monthly salary earner in the United States.

The luxury lifestyles some of us live here with 100K, cannot sustain us a day over there. We can’t try such in US and save a dim.

Some of our annual rent here is weekly/ monthly rent over there. Can you pay over 100K naira monthly house rent with 400K monthly salary here in Nigeria? You can’t do that, but you don’t have a choice over there. You pay or kicked out of the house.

Some of our people over there are becoming wiser now. They don’t mind sleeping on the streets, work for at least 5-10yrs, move back to Nigeria with their savings. You cannot survive with 100M living comfortably a year over there. Tax go finish you up. But you can live large with 100M for 5yrs or more here in Nigeria depends on your lifestyles tho.

You don’t pay unnecessary tax here. But in foreign countries you pay almost everything.
In naija you can own 10 cars..not in the United States because you pay for packing space for each car. You get the point now?

Some of our people in diaspora, once they earn $10K in a month or so, depends on the job, they’d send $9K down to their Nigeria account and keep $1K for their upkeep. Some would buy lands and build houses for rent or some other businesses.
If you don’t do that, you’d work all your life and come back with nothing. Those of you on this method are wise. But becareful of the people you send your money to here. Trust no one! Get a trustworthy lawyer involved.

U can make unnecessary noise or play loud music here. You can’t try such over there and not find yourself in police cell.

So you see….We are privileged here. We only need to get bad political leaders off the way. By getting involved in politics, national, state, LGA and community affairs. That’s how American youth you admire, do.

They don’t just fold hands, wailing and waiting for a miracle. They debate, disagree, challenge, involved and create. You get the point now?

A student job is meant for you to survive because you are only allowed to work only 20 hrs if you are a foreign student from non-EU during schooling time and 40 hrs during the long holidays.
I know many guys working even working full time and studying full time but those jobs are easy if its security jobs or clubhouses
