Well even the electorate are in it for themselves.
Imagine someone willing to collect 3k to vote for a party even though that same person has about 100k in his or her account. The greed and selfishness has robbed some of their common sense. They are not rich by any means but they are not hungry or broke to the extent that they have to be bribed to vote.
I once tried to talking people out of collecting money before voting and they were all looking at me as if I was crazy. These people were not homeless without food, they were average Nigerian with ok living but they have an entitled mentality of "I need what I can now " completely forgetting the reason for the election in the first place.
