As much as I would like to congratulate him, I fear that this his feat might not translate to much. Accounting is one course that churns out too many graduates and the labor market can hardly absorb them even when they become chartered. In my days of doing ACCA, I knew of an ICAN chartered accountant who was earning 30k per month and came to register for ACCA. This was around 2007 or so. Dude was married with kids, was working on the island and living on the mainland. I was always wondering how he was surviving. The luck this chap would have is that he is pretty young.

I hope he goes on to add tangible value to society. That is what really counts.
In Nigeria, we are too fixated on the clout rather than the substance "first person to score 9As in waec", " youngest person to completena PhD" , etc. But we are not producing, we are not innovative, we are not creating. We just want to brag.
Personally, I don't care if he is 17 or 40. What matters to me is what value his ICAN can add to society.

I know doctors and lawyers earning 30 and I know a chattered account earning 700k monthly

You actually denigrated the achievements of boy that has been mentored by the father, and who already prepares company accounts, and is now a chartered accountant at 17. Why? Because he is Yoruba?

You are commending Chinedu for learning a trade and being mentored by his boss to become successful in life, but here you are putting down Ojo for being mentored by his dad to become a chartered accountant, which could see him head a Fortune 500 company in the future. In fact if that boy goes abroad, he will finish and climb the corporate ladder so fast that his entire lineage would be impacted as a result.

etc. I agree with you. A chartered accountant is supposed to be one who has demonstrated both academic and practical experience over a period. Things like this expose.the flaw in our educational
and professional system, it exposes that ICAN is merely a paper qualification which any one with a retentive memory can ace. If 10year olds can cram and recite the full Quran, it is a no brainer that a 17year old can pass ICAN. We are too focused on paper qualifications in this country. That has to change
