This is what Ecobank did to my friend for 1 month now after using the ecobank app to transfer money to someone,the transaction failed and he was debited but the money did not deliver to the recipient and it was not reversed still.over one month now 500k is no where to be found.No reversal,nothing.he even issued a legal notice to themamd provided all necessary document,yet nothing has been done till now.

Enter the branch...literally raise hell and shout the entire branch down. Their manager go come out by him/herself to attend to it.

P.s; I am fully aware that they have breached their obligation in respect to banker-customer relationship and that I would be entitled to damages if I sue them for this.
But the truth is, instituting a legal action now would be too expensive for me coupled with the litigation process.

Simple case.

Write a letter to the Banking Supervision Department of the CBN near you. They will immediately invite the manager of that branch of the bank for a chat.

They will instantly reverse that money back to your account. Litigation is not the way when they have a regulatory body.

No bank manager messes with the CBN on this issue.

Like I said in one of my post, the right thing is to credit the person first then follow suit with their investigation. It has happened to me in the UK once and that was what HSBC did.

So if you're crediting someone in weeks after and the person already gone 6ft below what then is his gain? Of what use is the reversal?
You never can tell how serious the person need that money at that point in time.

Our problem in this regard is because we don't have consumers protection/right. I bought a pair of addidas trainers in the UK and it opened up in 3days, luckily, I still kept the reciept. I went back and was giving a new one.

Another instance was when I tried buying a PC at Staples and my card was swiped twice. The first swipe already took my money and the second attempt, the attendant said I do not have enough money on my card. I look so stupid on the queue. Could you step aside? He said! Everyone was looking at me as if I stole the card somewhere.

I left there in annoyance, called my bank up and they confirmed the store had been credited. I needed to use the PC for a project over the weekend but I had to borrow someone's PC for that.

First thing on Monday morning, I called the store and started shouting on the manager and threatened that I will report them to consumer protection that they subjected me to racial profiling. Lo and behold, the manager called me in the afternoon and apologies for their mistake (double-swiping) and asked me to come pick the PC for half the price. They had to appease me somehow for the trouble. This happened on Friday night and was sorted by Monday Afternoon!

That's how urgent and serious customers query should be attended to. That's how it should be done. And if you've inconvenient a consumer/customer in any way, you should make up for it ASARP.

copy CBN in your next complaint and also look for the MD or a director in the bank's email and also add that one as well.

That's how FCMB took more than six month just to reverse my 6k.I disturbed their life with different E-mails and Whatsapp messages everyday.Thank God their branch is trekable from my place,I am always the first person their customer care use to attend to because I always go there very early in the morning and always shouting at them inside the bank. keep disturbing them,they will refund you.

Go to the bank ask for your statement of account, confirm you’re debited officially. Cut out the part containing your personal information, highlight the particular transaction and go live on Twitter. Try message like this

It’s been 8 days my account was debited with this transaction highlighted. Your ATM failed to dispensed me the money. This error your management at (*** branch acknowledged). I had this same issue with Zenith Bank; Union wey i know no dae dull to reverse. Advice is : keep reminding them on that twitter till them reverse am. Mine did 3 months with Zenith before reversing it. Mine was 19th Jan to 19th April. Also take your mind off that money to avoid Unneccessary Tension for your head till reversal. They must surely reverse your money.

Hi. I had to log in to reply you. This is not a problem. You have to report them to CBN. Trust me, it works. Since the illegal deduction happened on the 19th, you can decide to wait till the 3rd of May to send this mail. I want you to send them an official mail to union bank today stating your grievances.

In your mail, you must emphasize on the fact that you reported this case on the 19th of April and you have been going back and forth with them. You must also clearly state that you could no longer reach them thereby drawing your conclusion of being blocked. You must also state that you approached them on Twitter. Just state all the wrongdoings. At the end of the mail, you will add, “ I’ll be escalating this to the Central Bank of Nigeria”.

Just send this to them. I promise you it will be reversed before the end of this week.
If it’s not which I doubt, on the 3rd of May, send a mail to CBN. Put them in copy and you will surely get your money.
