Both of those are good choices but filling up fast. Those from New Yorker and some from New Jersey are moving south to Florida due to weather and cheaper cost of living while Californians and Chicagoans are moving east to Texas for the same reason and that’s slowly driving up costs. Both would be good choices though.
I don’t know your job industry or if you only like major cities but I’ll suggest a few Southern cities with fairly cheap but good quality cost of living, good housing cost, good schools, things to do and enjoy, a Nigerian population, and good job markets. Research Birmingham and Huntsville in Alabama, Nashville and Murfreesboro in Tennessee (Murfreesboro is diverse and very nice), Lafayette in Louisiana, Baytown in Texas, the last two have opportunities in oil/gas, technology, etc. Birmingham and Huntsville are great if you’re in engineering.

You're absolutely right. Last year my friend told how he's building his house in Southern Florida from scratch. This guy went to Florida paid around $8k, picked a plot of land and he was allowed to pick some interior designs as well like tiles, and painting. As we speak his house is currently on construction. He linked me with the realtor, we talked over the phone and I went over to his office, he explained everything and showed me pictures and people who already building their houses. Lots of space and beautiful homes. I forgot the particular place in Southern Florida but it's fast developing, as at last year they're building a mega mall, Infact it's beautiful.

Now I'm in the US Navy and their what we called VA montgage Loan in the military meaning low interest rate and 0% down payment otherwise if you want to buy a home outside the military u need at least 20% down payment, high interest rates . There are lots of benefits and perk in the military something u don't get as a civilian, it's easier to buy a house while serving or retired . I'm seriously planning to take advantage and purchase a home in the south. I am into Aviation fuel, gas plant operations field in the navy so Texas won't be bad to settle after my contract expires with the Navy . We'll see how it goes. Thanks for heads up 🙏🙏😀😀. You in Florida?

Did they request for NIN to renew your passport, if yes, do you have one before or you were able to apply for one at the embassy?

Yes they require and I got mine from Nigeria.
You can always pay for it at the embassy in DC.

I didn't get mine before leaving Nigeria, and I'm planning to go to Atlanta to renew my passport. The last time I renewed my passport almost 5yrs ago at Atlanta, NIN was not a requirement then.

Yes it's too expensive but with lots of opportunities. Don't see myself leaving NY anytime soon. Live within ur means and don't spend unnecessarily. You in NY?

grin ... live within your means! ... that can be a real rough life depending on your means! There's a guy living in this abandoned SUV... it was left with a whole lot of junk inside... he threw them out and be living here for the past month. He has a bike ... maybe does delivery service ... he lives here. The vehicle was marked for removal by Sanitation so I'm wondering if they will scoop it up while he's gone ... or inside. Been more than a week... maybe they found him inside and postpone the pickup cause the weather is not nice. Live within your means... .. that's true... and 1stGenAmerican is right... NYC is expensive... mad expensive to live in but then.... personally... no other city is more used to immigrants than this city..... less money more problems.

Um, I'm aware school route is the surest route to the states. It's also the most expensive route, I think. If someone did make it via the tourist route, what is your advice for such a newcomer considering he/she can't legally work (I suppose) and all that?

Ppl do under the table job like working in a warehouse or working at an African store till they can gather theirselevs. Note that, these places under pay because they know you don't have the right documents.

Of course, that's to be expected. Thanks for your feedback.

The same treatment you can't take in Nigeria is what you glorified in the abroad? I think the main purpose of Nigerians Japa is the validation behind this idea and the assumed "XYZ is now in America" yada yada that come with it when people talk about them in Naija
