Someone up there vehemently insists this is Capitalism where the rich only entrench roots deeper into the resources of the people, just to get richer.

I don't know whether to applaud or reprimand him cause he has a valid point, and in the same vein, there are reasons as to why this can necessarily pass for industrialisation.

But at the end of the day, whichever way the pendulum swings, this is going to be a source of direct livelihood for hundreds of families and equally contribute to the revenue base of the State, and that's an undeniable fact.

you have a point. But Nigeria doesn't have the know-how for building things, at least at this moment.
Do you have any alternative ideas that can put on the path towards true industrialization instead of depending on multinationals to construct things for us?

We have the know how.. To be honest we don't have to know how at the beginning. We just have to put in efforts to learn. The whites also learnt.

Them Telling us we 'don't have the know how to manufacture' is pure colonial imperialist brain washing.

The colonial masters once claimed the India can't manufacture or produce any thing, but look at India today.

This is pure capitalism, not industrialization.

True industrialization is when the masses can easily build or play a very important role in the industrialization process and also benefit financially.

In summary, true industrialization will enable the masses make real man money directly.

This project will only make the rich richer.

No be today govt don dey promise refinery.

What role do you want to play?

Lovely

I wander why lovely projects like this were not done under the PDP between 1999 and 2015.

The people of the South South will reward the APC and Asiwaju with massive votes in the Presidential Election.

Are you from South South?

Naah, this isn't colonial brainwashing; it's being realistic.

Having the know-how is extremely crucial before embarking on constructing things that could end up killing people if done wrong.

The whites have had decades of trial and error; they know what works best and what doesn't.

India and China mostly learned from the west, they created education programs and exported their brightest to the west, who brought back their knowledge to help develop their countries.

Why aren't we doing something similar?

Because we are unable to break the chains of colonialism.. Every human man being has the capacity to build and manufacture.

They told us we can't and we still believe their lies.

Typical Nigerian masses.

Go and use your brain.

This is brain washed capitalism..

Na one person go make all the billions while others slave for him .

Why can't oil producing communities have refineries like this? It will distribute the wealth properly.

Life is very hard for human beings, cos only one percent of humans control all the wealth.

Wise up.

The rich are getting richer, while the poor are getting poorer.

Can't blame them though, the west(US in particular) has made us see capitalism as the best form of economic development, and it's actually working well for them. So if capitalism will help us and bring more people out of poverty, maybe not make them rich, then let's have it. South Koreans are not that rich but they are not in poverty index like Nigeria, and they have massive infrastructure. You can also provide alternatives while you're at it, we can all learn a thing or two.

They have made you feel when they employ people and give pay peanuts they are doing them a favour.

They steal from millions of people, in return the employ 1k-5k people. Is that progress?

How come the poverty rate is so high despite the presence of capitalist businesses?

You have a serious point, a critical one that most Nigerians have never heard of and our leaders know next to zero about.
A nation does not become wealthy by contracting big budget 'infrastructure'.
All the roads, bridges and rail lines by themselves create nothing, but are mere tools to enhance an already productive people.

Even the so called mythical saying in these parts that 'providing 24 hours electricity will guarantee development' is just that because power in development is a factor of production. Power on its own does not produce anything and to an unproductive nation it then becomes an expensive burden.

You obviously do not know Nigeria well..................have you been to Aba,Nnewi or even kano....let us not talk of Lagos, Nigerians can build, assemble or fabricate stuff...........problem has always been Capital formation and financing, that is even on the production side of things............how about effective demand and consumption.........have we bothered to develop a truly robust National Identification system or a credit history system? This is the under development we talk about...not just the lack of infrastructure!

There’s no place in Nigeria that practice true industrialism, appreciate the one wey dem build n forget those talks, if all states are having such you think is not going to serve as source of employment? Look those working there won’t have time to go into Yahoo or kidnapping, na small thing we need to take change this Nigeria first before it evolves to a full develop country

1.I doubt you would say this if you were the one financing and constructing the project.

2.No businessman goes into business with the aim of benefitting the masses financially...they go into the business with the aim of benefitting themselves, their shareholders, their families and themselves, and themselves. (Yes, I said it three times). Even their workers...they are paid to bring in more profit for themselves.

3.What you are asking for has been tried before...in most Communist countries...and at the end, the projects failed. There is no such thing as masses taking part in building a project that can benefit them. At the end of the day, the masses would want to buy stuff from the same industries fior cheap...and this leads to crap products which lead to more mess...because the masses won't pay the prices needed for any'people's company' to function profitably....and this leads to point no 4...

4.Capitaliism works because it guarantees a profit....which is used to pay for new improvements and new investments. Most of the consumer stuff we use...computers, phones, etc....were made possible by capitalist profits. Yes, we use computers that work better than the ones we had five years ago because greedy capitalists paid for more improvements to improve their profits.

That's why by the 1970's capitalist countries were far ahead of the communist countries...to a point where many communist countries could not catch up.

5.But you can still benefit from capitalsim...when the company starts sellingshares....BUY THEM.

At the end of the day, your ideas can never work because, unfortunately....people are greedy, and people love to be paid. If we built a masses company to build cars....you think the masses would be willing to pay N10 million for a car like the RAV 4 from that factory...no they will insist on paying N100000, for a people's car, and the company would end up making crap cars, for the masses, or lose so much money that it would close down, then we can blame the 'imperialists'.
