You messed by getting rude to her. Now she'll cling onto that and use it as an excuse to not refund your deposit.

If there's a way to leave a review do that.

Edit. Here's the logic behind my comment:

Have you ever watched crime documentaries before? Even detectives know not to get rude to rape and murder suspects at the start.
In interviews they ease them into it. And they eventually snitch and implicate themselves. They pretend to be their friend and make them comfortable to open up.

Same concept here. Same concept with kidnappers and their victims. Complementing and pretending to befriend your attacker helps keep you alive.

Being rude to that thief of a landlady is understandable. But it's just gonna give her an avenue to refuse refunding him.

I know it's hard to understand because nigerians are easily led their instincts and emotions.
You're typing crap

Oga..you talk too much with unnecessary big grammar..cases like this warrants him to invite the police...which he didn't which raises the suspicion. No dey show yourself.

Stop talking from the abundance of your sahara desert of ignorance. An F1 in status with an expired visa is still a legal immigrant.
Immigration is on the exclusive, so a local police authority does not care about your immigration status before attending to your case

Forget if they will act or not
..make the entry first... that's the first thing a normal thing every legit citizen would do in cases like this.

And Yes..I'm inside the abroad.

Are you okay now?
aestake:

Ok. If it is not up to 5K, sometimes police won't act. Are you in the abroad?

You cant be dashing ‘knowledge’ from your atlantic ocean of ignorance.
You have no idea what’s the difference btw a civil and criminal case. Stick to beer parlor whatsapp chatroom.

This is not Naija. Police know the rules to follow. They wont pay him no attention.

Again... you're just going in circles. I still repeat that his entry into that country was illegal. He should contact the police rather than disturbing us online.

The OP said he just moved to New Jersey for graduate school.

That's the third line of his story!

When you say Unity, what brings unity, if not common goals, or genuine interest in building up each other and understanding each other.

Without the basics, unity remains elusive.

I always observe this hurried quest for unity, in face of danger or maybe certain challenges, although the people dont even understand themselves, how can iron cling with clay.

Anyway regardless of some of the issues, Black Americans are still our brothers and sisters. We’re still and always will be one family. One love

You are correct, let me reserve the experience l had with a Nigerian shipper and his wife on how they treated me and when l went to confront them openly and expressed my dissatisfaction,it ended up in the reverse, it is a long story, the summary is keep some Nigerians at arms length for your peace of mind or completely avoid some Nigerians angry

Nigerians are not generally bad. The blame is on the ones that keep their expectations high when dealing with them. I keep my expectations the lowest it can get thus leaving little room for disappointment and regrets. As always, trust but verify.

I had a very nasty experience with a Nigerian in New Jersey recently. I recently just moved to the United States last Fall for my graduate school in New Jersey. Upon getting to the United States, I stayed with a friend that I have known from university in Nigeria so as to find my bearing as well as deal with transition. After styaing with the friend for a couple of months, I felt it was time to get a place to stay so as to be more independent and face my challenges.

We all know rudeness is no excuse. The woman is devious. As soon as OP got rude, she jumped on it. That will now be her defense.

Rudeness can never be a defend for criminality.
