You messed by getting rude to her. Now she'll cling onto that and use it as an excuse to not refund your deposit.

If there's a way to leave a review do that.

Edit. Here's the logic behind my comment:

Have you ever watched crime documentaries before? Even detectives know not to get rude to rape and murder suspects at the start.
In interviews they ease them into it. And they eventually snitch and implicate themselves. They pretend to be their friend and make them comfortable to open up.

Same concept here. Same concept with kidnappers and their victims. Complementing and pretending to befriend your attacker helps keep you alive.

Being rude to that thief of a landlady is understandable. But it's just gonna give her an avenue to refuse refunding him.

I know it's hard to understand because nigerians are easily led their instincts and emotions.
very funny girl. Because he’s rude doesn’t change the fact that she must refund him
Re: My Nasty Experience With Nigerian In New Jersey by amofum(m): 7:20am On Apr 02, 2023
My one cent, report to the police. This is a case of advance fee fraud and/or breach of contract. In any case, you're due even more compensation than $100. No need to give her a deadline, let the police do that for you. Let them know that you think it's a scheme that she's trying to perfect.

Please report her to the police if she doesn't refund your money, don't go and confront her oo

Instead of him reporting to the police so she pays for damages. He they Facebook they exchange words until he says something implicative.

Sometimes we just cause problem for ourselves.

It's because you have money to throw away, that's why you're spouting this gibberish. Imagine if it were someone in more dire straits? Any Nigerian idiot who thinks they can do as they like is a more civilized country deserves to face the wrath of the law. Pls do the needful. You don't have a valid excuse. You don't owe any Nigerian anything but your honesty, something she didn't consider to show you.

I’m not proud of what I’m going to say but in my 33 years in the USA I made a total of 5 friends.

We’re just generally bad people.

Hope you get your money back. Not sure if they have small claims court where you are.

Hi Mr. Mogaji, a few questions for you,

Any reason why we are prone to being dubious in our dealings, despite decades of Christian teachings?

I perceive the Northern / Islamic folks to be more reliable than the southern Nigerians; just a conjecture. Any truth to this?

There are poorer countries whom their people are some of the nicest folks you can ever meet… Ethiopians, Nepalese,Rwandans. Is it tenable to attribute our duplicity to poverty?

Recently, I visited Muscat.. and I found the worst breeds of Nigerians dumped in one lot …. And the funniest part, they attend house Christian fellowship on sundays.. same dude you know to be scammer is praying to God for miracle… how did we get here?

I would appreciate your thought

I'm sure you still remember how I was planning to relocate back to naija after 27 years in America. My so- called cousin scammed me to ship 3 of my cars to naija. I just stopped talking to him. I'm not surprised tho....I knew dealing with naija can never end with a smile.

BTW....are you still in naija?

It’s pretty difficult living in Nigeria and not deal with Nigerians. How have you been able to deal with the madness?

For me, it has gotten to a point that I can not deal with the market haggling any more. Price tags, please!

God bless you my sister!
In all honesty, this is actually very difficult but it's a necessity in the face of provocation.

God will help us Nigerians to imbibe this kind of resilience when the need arises. Shalom

far better abroad. Regardless of your tribe, you're treated as brothers and sisters. Ghanaians too. I had a robust relationship with one. He's such a great brother. Anyone in doubt should try any of the kokoyes( Mexicans) angry. You go see madness, confam. Dem no even send dem pikin.

East or west, north or south, no place like Nigeria. Those who ran back home to join politics under the guise of serving their father land would know better. Ask femi gbajabiamila with his long stay in America if he could afford to school in havard. Ovie omo-agege too. That's why I didn't blame gbaja during ASUU strike last year when he posted the picture of himself taking lectures at havard
See reasoning. Lol

So, how many Nigerians living in Nigeria can afford to school in covenant university talk less of Harvard

The guy even has all the chats details which makes it easy to deal with the woman. Abeg talk another thing.
seriously though this approach works for me all the time. its called DE-ESCALATING THE SITUATION .its a european tactic of disarming you. they taught us in UK security school

Dear bro, for your future safety unperceive that thought in the first paragraph I quoted . Any where you jam Nigerians ,no matter the tribe or religion ,deal carefully. There is a reason we’re stuck with the worst mendacious and degenerate leadership in arguably the whole world .That’s because our leaders truly represent the common Nigerian.

It’s safer you deal with East Africans than Nigerians or even Ghanaians. Our churches are mostly financial institutions -same with the mosques

What are you saying? You sef are part of the problem. Defense? Really?
Someone os trying to scam another person and you're saying you shouldn't be "rude". I no even know the rudeness wey you dey talk. So in court she will tender her justification that she held on to someone else's money because she didn't like how he spoke to her Really

She's meant to send him 1200 minimum, for the tome wasted, money to move stuff again and generally frustrating his effort. That's why Nigeria is the way it is today, someone will be doing something very bad, stealing, killing and you speak against it and you will be claiming you're older than the person. Silly people around to will join to say "she fit born am now". Someone is stealing and actively trying to destroy the lives of others and what the silly persons are concerned about is that "you spoke in a rude way"

No mind that foolish woman, women always backing up their gender.

In the USA when you see a person doing his all to try to avoid going to the police he is likely an illegal

The fact that he didn't want to report the case was suspicious

Any US citizen will call the cops on you if you as much as shout in your own house

That's US culture.

In Nigeria (this fellow just came from Nigeria) people AVOID having to involve the police as much as possible in any matter. It would take time to get used to the US way.

Also the paper issue should be dispelled by him being a student.

Do you reckon a bonafide US graduate student is an illegal immigrant?
Is that possible?

Then the US institution is culpable here. Not just the illegal immigrant.

A basic background check with the US immigration office prevents this easily.
