I landed Nigeria yesterday from the US after 2years of Japing. Nothing seems to have gotten better, things have become very worse! How exactly do people live here in Nigeria? So many people begging you for money. Gosh, I can stay in this country for longer than 3 weeks. I can’t! I just cant!!!
The cab i took from the Airport to my apartment charged my 13k for a 35 mins drive It got me wondering how civil servants with families survive in this country considering how expensive things have become and salaries are constant.

Abeg show me way I wan japa too

A) lack of parking?! drive long distance? i guess in your world, every single person in the US has a car, thus why they dont catch public transport abi? lol! just in New York, which has 3 major airports; 55% of households in NYC (aka 5 boroughs) dont own a car.
B) many people who live paycheck to paycheck in the US own a car and are still broke (thanks to car notes)!
C) as for you saying that there is no poverty in US/Europe (unless by choice)... you sir dont know what you are talking about. many people in US/Europe are poor because they can barely survive their paycheck to paycheck lifestyle. some cant even afford a home in places like NY/LA etc close to 40millions americans are poor, and immigration (legal/illegal) aint helping the numbers go down. same as Europe where poverty line is about 15% of the population (especially in places like France, UK, Spain, Italy)

i can take you to Paris today, and show you GHETTOS a stone thrown away from any tourist attraction. no poverty in US/EUROPE (unless by choice)?! you must be a comedian!

some yeah, and others are jobless/homeless people who aint got 1kobo to their names... aka many immigrants who thought they were gonna become the next Jeff Bezos, and ended up in the streets with no money for food nor shelter and/or return ticket.
there is poverty EVERYWHERE in the world...the difference is the percentage...in Africa its about the majority of population, in the US/UK its around 15/20% depending on where you look. i am talking people who cant even get money for food nor shelter. go to any of these trailer park in the US, thats where you will see real poverty with no drugs or anything affecting them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMr5JjEOzkY

First, where are you based?

Have you lived in Europe or US, like lived their for years?

What you just said, is it from Google you browse am give me?

Again, did you read where I mentioned poverty is a choice, either by one overdosing on drugs and can’t live a normal life of working and paying bills or by being illegal immigrant?

Pay check to pay check doesn’t mean they are lacking.
Poverty is when one lacks the basic things of life. Pay check to paycheck means you work, paid your bills and have no savings.

Mind you, once’s you are working, you can get a car financing and pay as low as 100$ a month to own a car.
Mr man. I tell you again,
Poverty is by choice in Europe and US. Unless you are doing drugs and or illegal and can’t find a decent work because you don’t have a record.

Stop making a fool of yourself by pulling photos off the internet of homeless people who destroyed their lives with drugs and illegal immigrants who that live in shanties.

Poverty is by choice in US and Europe.
When I first moved to the US, I was changing jobs every month and was so picky that most people offered me jobs but I refused. 😂
This one dey mention trailer parks. Go there, and see if all of them no get cars, electricity, running water, cables, phone, internet, foods.
Not being poor doesn’t me you will be rich, at least you will afford basic necessities of life.
My work is home services industry and I dey go trailer parks all the time to do jobs, I know wetin I dey see there.
Nobody lives below 200 dollars a day in the US Mr Man
When you hear say there is no poverty in US or Europe, it doesn’t me everybody must be Elon Musk, it means, nobody lacks basic things here.
Foods, clothing, shelter, water, name it.

Let me shock you again, those drug destroyed homeless living in tents, govt have a provision for them to be fed, and rehabilitated, but them no gree live normal life sake of say drug don destroy them. They get pulled from the streets and put in shelter for homeless but they always ran away because they can’t live without drugs and don’t want to be rehabilitated.

again, thats because you dont understand the point here... many have families/children/homes/bills to pay and can only get these yeye £8/hr jobs (especially if laid off at +40yrs old)...do you think you can feed a whole family with children with such salary?! wouldnt you consider such person POOR? you yourself, do you think that with your £8/hr as a single man you were not poor (simply because you could pay your school and small chop)?! do you think that someone who receive benefits from the gov aint poor? poverty aint just making money, its about NOT being able to afford basic needs such as food/Shelter/clothing/healthcare etc. many in the UK dont have that luxury. just because you are sharing a flat with 15people, and can afford indomie 3 times daily does not mean you aint poor. many are just an accident away from requesting a hospital stay that they cant afford, many are a paycheck away from being homeless, many are a paycheck away from being hungry. just because you go to the UK and manage to SURVIVE, does not mean there aint no poverty in the UK.

i guess in your mind, the 15% poverty line in the UK is a myth then... there is some much abundant jobs for everybody in the UK and immigrants like you taking up jobs left right and center is irrelevant to the poverty in the uk, right?! i guess the people lining up for work in jobcenters are rich people who are too lazy to work, yeah?

Mind you this is the least of jobs that can pay such amount. Ok lets do the math lets say you get paid 8p/hr and you work 7hrs daily. 8×7 =56pound a day. Multiply 56 by 1week, 56×7 = 392pound. After working for a month 392×4 = 1568pounds. Wait you call this peanut. 1568 by 750 in todays black market is 1.1million? This is one of the lowest you can earn like why do you think some nigerians take two jobs overseas? Do you know how much they are making? Talk more more of office jobs you can get higher pay

When I first moved to the US, I was changing jobs every month and was so picky that most people offered me jobs but I refused. 😂

A) i have never lived in Nigeria (unless long holidays)
B) i am just giving you PROPER STATISTICS and certainly not "he say she say" personal opinion
C) again, many people in the US aint addicts nor illegal immigrants and still barely living paycheck to paycheck, and cant afford basic necessities of life. its even WORSE in the US than Europe, because at least some countries in Europe have a very strong social service system (compared to the US). a jobless 18yr old French citizen will receive money from the gov to survive (even if he hasnt paid a kobo in taxes), a US jobless 18yr wouldnt receive a kobo.
D) many people cant get a decent job because of the amount of legal/illegal immigrant taking up these low pay jobs.
E) many people in the US are broke because of the exacts same low financing car/house/Iphones etc notes you are talking about (That they cant afford)
F) addiction is NOT part of the poverty i am talking about, nor the CNBC video i just posted, if you had watched t, you would have understood that the poverty in the US that everyone is talking about must be from a different country than the US you are on about.
G) ANYONE WHO LIVES PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK AND CAN BARELY AFFORD BASIC NECESSITIES (while living on credit) ARE POOR PEOPLE ON PAPER...regardless of what you believe. credit card debts and bad/low credit score is a sign!
H) just because i can go to the US today and find a job DOES NOT Mean i cant be broke and/or still poor in the US.

FINALLY, the fact that you believe that there is no poverty in the US (unless by choice) makes me truly believe that you obvously dont know much about the US/Europe or you are just one of those Africans who landed, found a low paying job that paid 10 times what you were making in Nigeria and suddenly believed you were rich (or that everyone in the US is). i can take you today to some entire neighborhoods in Atlanta/Miami, LA and you will see nothing but poverty and ghettos (and drug addicts dont rent the houses/apt there). go check Liberty City, Overtown, Opa Locka in Miami and tell us it isnt rampant with poverty. some people in NY can only afford shitty dumpster apts that i wouldnt even let my worst enemy live in. you guys are talking like proper immigrants (comparing 1500 in the UK with the equivalent of that in Nigeria)...
A) who in their right minds (apart from desperate illegal immigrants) works 7 days a week for the rest of their lives?
B) better yet, how can a family of 4 survive on £1500 monthly (£18K per year) in a place like London (for example)? if you have a family of 4 and earn £1500 monthly (£18K per yr) in London, you are POOR!
C) comparing wages in the UK with its equivalent in Naira, is one of the reason why you will always fail in this issue. LONDON IS NOT LAGOS...dont get it twisted. in London with £18K per yr, by the time you finish paying rent/housing/food/transport, you will barely have money to pay for clothing/schooling/healthcare. just your monthly travel card will take no less than10-30% of your monthly salary (depending on how far away your work is).

for your information, travel card zone 1-2 cost £150, zone 1-9 cost £400 ...if you live/work in zone 1-2 then you pay cheapER travel card (10% of salary) but your rent price will kill you..if you live far away from city center and work in the city then your rent will be cheaper but the travelcard will cost between 20-30% of monthly salary!!!!

again, many aint complaining but that doesnt mean they aint poor... the credit system is there to make poor people feel comfortable in their poverty, WHILE ENRICHING THEMSELVES AND KEEPING YOU POOR. there are many people in the UK who were BORN IN POVERTY and who are COMFORTBALE IN POVERTY. some people out in the UK have been living for decades on the dole (aka bare minimum), and dont need more. some people in the UK are poor/broke yet live in fancy houses and drive nice cars, while living in debts! people taking credit to live a seemingly comfortable life, aint rich...they are just poor people pretending to be comfortable (while in reality they cant afford such lifestyle....aka they are POOR).

some people are not educated and can only manage these low paying jobs, and dont complain BUT, just because these low paying salaries are the equivalent of a fortune in Nigeria, doesnt make these people suddenly rich.

On point, but because of God, let him "adopt" one or two families in Nigeria and sponsor them as much as he can.
God will pay.

But on a side note, everyone who supported the leaders and the ones who stole the last election deserves no pity.

Things were a little better during Jonathan's era. People got overfed and were challenging the government. Buhari reduced the feeding of people by increasing price of petrol, cooking gas, food etc. The hunger in people didn't allow them to challenge his government. Now, the government in power have seen that increasing the poverty would decrease the rate of agitation as it's a well fed man that would think of protesting. Moreover, the less the masses see money, the more money is accrued by the rich and political class for power consolidation.
Well said.

Unfortunately, this the problem with Negroes.
After the Locust years of Buhari,Babangida and then Abacha ,Nigerians got a breath of fresh air and economic mobility under OBJ and then Jonathan. Apparently overfeeding, they became arrogant, and ungrateful of the honest attempts at good governance. Like a the mindless mob they are, they allowed themselves to be blinded and tricked by political conmen shouting " change". They asked for it and they got the change they asked for .
And ha ha ha, 8yrs of " Changi" and the citizens are again emasculated into the most excruciating economic conditions worse than the Buhari first missionless journey, the Babangida and Abacha Locust years all combined.
Now, in fairness, if the BAT were any younger and more cognitively dexterous, I might give him some hope of doing something meaningful, but his obvious cognitive incapacity means more ra.pe and pillage of the Nigerian people.
The people are so hungry and so confused now, they hardly have a voice to complain.
