State government must understand that having a proper correctional center is important in improving the state, and encouraging overall security and wellbeing. This is the carrot and stick approach.

A state must ensure they don't punish people indiscriminately, people should be punished or rehabilitated according to their crimes, mixing people who misstepped or merely threatened people in same jails as hardened criminals, is turning that citizen into a criminal. I recommend that only proven criminals caught in the act of robbing, or murdering someone should be placed in same cells, and those convicted should be in separate correctional centers/facilities from those awaiting trial. It is detrimental to general safety of society and we are destroying the future of a citizen by dumping them in same prison blocks and facilities with proven killers and armed robbers. A lot of human resources are in prison and our nation need development.

Police should focus on going after serious criminals, like armed robbers, terrorists and people who actually committed crimes, rather than arresting and locking people up through petitions they receive.

Nigerian prisons are over congested, and a lot of youths with potential get their lives derailed after being locked up for frivolous charges and reports/petitions from people who hate or dislike them or in disagreement with them, Nigeria police should keep the prison for the criminals who actually commit crime and have been convicted, except for cases of armed robbery, violent crimes, terrorism, bail should be given. Nigeria police should stop locking people up because people petitioned that "they were threatened" or making frivolous claims without an actual harm being done. We have freedom of speech in Nigeria, we should use tax payers money to chase real criminals and lock up real criminals.

Judges must stop sentencing people to prison based on cases on "threats" but should rather issue stern warning to the defendant, and maybe give community service, Nigerian judges act wicked, sending youths to jail on frivolous claims by people who disagree with them. In Nigeria people are cursed and threatened everyday, locking people up because of charges of threats is frivolous and our courts should leave the matters for the police and parties to solve, an undertaking from the accused should be okay to solve this problem.

Our correctional facilities need: Sports recreational facilities, training centres(teach them to build furniture, to be tailors, to be chefs, and actually use the sane ones to work in the prison facilities, we should stop condemning our youths because they committed mild crimes like cyber crimes, crimes of threatening people and other crimes that doesn't directly harm others(non felony offences)

Our brain drain is tied to this indiscriminate acts of locking up our youths for no real reason, why not use the intelligence of that youth positively, for instance a lot of criminal hackers, were turned to government hackers in America, and used to track criminal hackers. Let's think progressively, and stop condemning our youths for non felony offences (offences that don't hurt the life of others and does not constitute public threats)

Please let's move to front page, we need reforms in our justice system and how people are punished for crimes, it should be proportionate. Stop keeping hardened killers in same jails with people with no criminal record, who are in jail for non serious offences, stop jailing people for simple offences. Decongest our jails. Jails are for armed robbers, kidnappers, terrorists and public service looters.

A mega city can not have dingy, smelly prisons, with no space for prisoners to proper rehabilitate (write a book, learn a skill, do excercise, and have access to councellors. Let's stop breeding monsters with our prisons, let's correct properly, it's called correctional facility. Sanitiser the prisons, make it humane, feed them well, engage them, give them jobs there. Time and human resources need not be wasted. In America prisoners are actively engaged.

Decongest our prisons and leave space for dangerous criminals who actually have been proven to commit serious felony, other crimes like threats, dafamation of character, libel, as long as not threats to national security or inciting chaos in the nation or society, offenders of such crimes should be kept in rehabilitation centers, where they get councellors to talk to them and correct the bad character, not condemning them in dingy prisons and destroying a national asset, human resource. Build rehabilitation centers for soft offenders, to train and counsel them to becoming better, not throwing them in prison.

Let's rehabilitate not turn citizens to monsters, in Nigeria instead of correcting offenders to be better members of the society, we are condemning them. Offenders who didn't carry out violent crimes,. economic sabotage or public sector stealing and embezzlement should not be sentenced to prison but rather forced to pay restitution and rehabilitated. Let's stop destroying our human resources.
