Fact is, both countries have some stake to lose if this row deepens. I still can not fathom whatever prompted the SA government to take this step? I must commend naija govt for standing up to them though.

O ma se o. If not for our successive corrupt, immoral and demonically possesed leaders we have always had, south africa for no fit stay anywhere naija dey yarn na

You'll want to cover your face and throw your passport in the bin if you read comments(which are true)made by south africans regarding this deportation issue, they're totally fed up with the misdemeanor of MAJORITY of nigerians here living in SA.I'm not saying it is totally wrong to give the FG a pat on the back for their retaliatory action but they should be hanged for sinking this nation this deep on the global scene out of their massive corruption.Nigeria is not just blessed with resources, but even resourceful brains, hospitable people, talents in ALL walks of life but our leaders just make life and living more than miserable for nigerians.Every nation of the world see an average nigerian as a potential fraudster, killer, drug peddler etc.But it is true I tell you.If you're in Pretoria you'll think you're in Warri or Mushin.Yeah the worst case scenario is to have all nigerians(like myself)deported from SA and every citizen to his fatherland. I dont mind loosing my job here even. But it will be more hilarious if we continue to sleep in darkness, cant boast of good roads, have mediocres hold the helms of affairs of Nigeria, cant have good drinkable water,QUALITY education, even security of lives and property(with Boko Haram on the loose)is not guaranteed and then we'll expect a nation like SA to respect us. Honestly they have their own problems to tackle, lots of that - the socio-racial nonsense,HIV/AIDS,corruption,Unemployment etc. There is in fact an ongoing strike courtesy of COSATU as I write this. Other countries of Africa are busy developing every area that adds value to their standard of living.Even assembling a soccer national team in/for Nigeria is toothache. The only people in this world that reckon with Nigeria are nigerians themselves, and if there exist such people or org then it  means they are ripping this nation off one way or the other courtesy of the government. SA will loose, and so will Nigeria. But let's wash our smelly wounds, for 51years Nigeria still bleeds.SA is just 17years away from their independence and just look at them. Xenophobia or not let's open our eyes and ears to the truth. Even the aged after having served Nigeria for so long gnash their teeth out of hunger and frustration. You need to see how SA cater for their aged, nursing mothers etc. Nigeria needs not only deportation, it needs flushing in the high places.

@Koruji,spread the word more,please.

We should tread softly as we have big Nigerian businesses operating in South Africa that could be harmed.

For far too long, countries within the African continent have have insulted us as a nation. Not to recently, it was Ghana who pulled the trigger of insult on Nigeria, tell any Nigerian to pay an unrealistic amount before such a person or organization is allowed to establish in Ghana. I was watching a sport programme on dstv just sometime past & the little dwarf braggard Thomas Mlambo had the effrontry to say "A small country like Nigeria could not qualify for the just concluded nations cup". Of course, embittered as I was could do nothing about it, but felt if our leaders care, they get DSTV to appolozise for for that be advised never to use the presenter on any programme that would be aired in Nigeria.

Much siad, our leaders are to be blamed for this afront on the part of S/Africa. If our economy is flourishing, & Nigerians are gainfully employed, the exodus of our citizens to SA will be greatly reduced. Even the much touted reciprocity has not fully implemented to retaliate the deportation of 125 Nigerians. If SA authorities have suddenly fortetton the hitoric role Nigeria played in the dethronment of Apartheid situation, history has not.

Countless examples of inhumane treatment of our Nationals by our fellow African countries is quite appauling. It is worthy to note that most African countries that Nigeria has helped would rather humiliate Nigerians than reciprocate the goodwill by showing appreciation.

Nigeria as a nation will need to adopt a more proactive measures to protect its citizens than the current posture of brotherhood in diaspora that have adversely affect us. More severe sanctions should be adopted to serve as a deterrent to other countries of the world. Our annoying brotherhood in diaspora should not be taken for granted.

nice response, infact i expect d government to do more, its just very silly of those ediots to think they can do anything to us. how can you detain and deport over a 100 people just like that. including children and women, highest disregard and disrepect to a nation.
despite the fact that they have no justified reason to do that, f00lish people
Re: Nigeria Deports 56 More South Africans -- More To Follow by babyboy3(m): 11:02am On Mar 07, 2012
And about MTN. MTN is making a killing in Nigeria, yes, but don't forget that MTN is market leader in 21 of the 22 countries it has a footprint in. After all, Vodacom never came to Nigeria, and are still doing very well. Same as for Multichoice. Most of the SA investment in Nigeria is significant. If they are pulled out, it represents massive loss of job in Nigeria, not SA.

Do you honestly believe that if a Telecom company wherever they are in the world knows that MTN is about to loose its market share in Nigeria would jump at the chance at taken over all those contracts within a blink of the an eye.

South african president that was not afraid of sleeping with an HIV infested prostitute without condom is now afraid of fake yellow fever card and some bigots still believe they are not just trying to disgrace nigerians for no reason. FG should nationalise both DSTV and MTN self after deporting all the SA workers there

o what happens if SA doesn't care, what do we do in return?

They are probably telling their citizens to get away from Nigeria anyway. Moreover, they have being looking for the perfect excuse to kick out the 1000s of Nigerians resident in that country!!!

When Iran brought arms large enough to excute a small war, where was all these gra-gra.

Didn't GEJ just junket to SA with a large entourage to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the ANC (a party, though symbolic, but still only a party in SA)!!!

When Boko Haram bombed the UN building in Abuja, guess which country the UN had to go to treat its wounded. Boko Haram has also recently promised to set its sights on SA & SA companies - don't you think a serious country will take such threats seriously, especially after Abdulmutallab got on a plane to commit evil on an American plane.

O ma se o - decades of successive incompetent, selfish and sometimes downright wicked administrators of a name too bad to speak have brought a country with great potentials to its knees -Nigeria is OVER!!!

lol, must be a joke when anyone argue that south africa will loose more, what is Nigeria? a country that cant even produce chopstick    where else southafrica produce what so ever they use in their country, moreover Its like they control southern and Eastern africa so pls think twice before you talk. Lets say yes it might be an advantage for us tomorrow If their companies leave Nigeria cos a Nigerian will wake up to provide same services just like that tire company that left Nigeria, today a Nigerian Innoson is planning how to produce tire with our own resources. The income goes into our coutry.

But its good to protect you people no matter what.

BOLD

Its just like saying the UK economy doesnt need the US to survive, SA trying to survive on Zimbabwe or Kenya or other East and South African countries is like saying Japan would survive on Hong Kong and Singapore ONLY

Plz all should hear me out. Plz if u don't hav any meaningful thing 2 say, plz hold ur comment. Ppl here are saying that we should not try it with britain or america. I view those comments as childish ones. If u listen to the comment of the minister, u will see points to prove that we are not at fault because they have protocol of how things work out even if you want to deport anyone but they didn't follow the protocol. Nigeria is great and can not be treated with such disrespect from south africa. Where did these guys wrong them, the have valid visas, yellow cards used to obtain visa and u sit in ur country pronouncing anoda person documents as invalid. Am living in south africa and i want you guys to know that we will not lose this war. If they like, they can bring it on. As far as am concern, no major nigeria company in south africa except individual money or investment here but they have many including shoprite that many ppl forget. My brothers in nigeria, do not critisize the acrion of our govt because they arew right and should be sopported. Such action will make u enjoy travelling legally to any country and never be insulted. South africans should met all the conditions stipulated by our govt. Other countries will also learn from these. Britain as a whole can not manipulate any legal nigerian there to more of small south africa. We should be proud of the effort of our govt to combat these insult and hope never to happen again. Plz dont critisize but support these to spear u of this embarrasiment becuz who knows next time it might be you. Finally, if britain brings it on, we give back, america bringd, we return etc respect is a resiprocal

Why are nigerians so negative? Every sensible nigerian should support the FG in this diplomatic row with SA. Even if FG can deport both DSTV and MTN, I am in full support. It is obvious SA is doing this for petty reason. Ask yourself this question; if yellow fever card is that important and is fake, why is it that USA, UK and co has not been deporting nigerians because of that? So it now takes an HIV infested south africans to now know they are in danger of yellow fever cos of fake cards from nigeria. How much is yellow fever immunization for example? Free in any local health centre across and I even give it in my hospital readily available from local immunization office that supplies us. When was the last time I saw yellow fever in clinical practise? They just want to spat on us. Simple. Nigherians are not disgraced abroad just because of corruption but we had been too soft. So what is so special that nigeria got too lose from the diplomatic? Nothing. They are the ones with heavy investment in nigeria. All we need to do is to start imposing 80percent tax regime on MTN and DSTV and only  5percent for indigenous network and see the ripple effect. SA is doing this for petty reason and if we don't respond now, they will soon start deporting nigerians for not taking their bath before boarding a flight

Justcash:

I am a business man. From a business perspective, I can tell you that Nigeria is an investment goldmine. Especially for developed African nations like South Africa. Go and read about the story of what happened to Vodacom when MTN established in Nigeria. Till today, Vodacom is regretting their costly ignorance. Ever wondered why multichoice is more present in Nigeria than any other African country apart from SA? Do you know how many South African services exist and thrive in Nigeria?

Let me say it in pidgin english, Naija people sabi chop and enjoy life, but we no dey produce.

The above is the reason why we are a heck of a goldmine for businesses from developed nations. The advantage SA gat over other countries is the continental and regional familiarity. They can exist and do business with all the inefficiencies in Nigeria. That is difficult for people from other continents.

160 million mouths is not beans. Sell gala at the rate of 1 Naira to every Nigerian, you'll turn into a very big boy in every currency.

I forgot to add these. Plz don't say nigeria will lose more than south africa because we are not the guilty but they are. Also, believe we can win these battle and don't belittle yourself against another country because may be that's why we are view as inferior to them. Be proud of who you are, and strive to defend yourself by all means in another country where you are legal resident. Support the govt to meet this 5 conditions and other country will learn. some quotes from south africans on a south african blog.

''you can always go back to where you were coming from, you are not south african so you cant comment on our issues. If your country was good you wouldnt have been here, and when we do business in nigeria we are actually doing you guys a favour coz you are so full of corruption to the extent that you cant even manage your Oil you have had it for 40 yrs bt still your country is bad'' - Roi Strong Sibambo - March 7, 2012 at 07:56

''Amara my sweet loving angel I wish you can come to South Africa and see what your brothers are doing to South Africa and to South Africans as a nation. I bet you would not like it. There is no Nigerian who is living innocent in South Africa. What the new thingy that is done by the Nigerians to South Africa except the case of drugs, prostitution, money loundring the list goes. Now nigerians get fake certificates to operate as doctors. Now tell me, where does this leave the lifes of South Africans who visit the surgery of these Nigerians thinking that those doctors are legitimate doctors? Will it be nice if your sister will be used as a coy for drug trafficking?Just 3 months back, our loving sister has been arrested in Bangkok (Nolu Nobanda). She was recruited by Nigerians to use her as decoy. Now she is facing a long jail term in Bangkok. In South Africa you get Nigerians who forever sending sms's telling people to give out their details so that they can do fraud and that South African is arrested, In South Africa you get Nigerians who hijack building and vandalise them so that LovePeddlers and drug users can leave there, In Sout Africa you get a Nigerian who kill a South African for his or her own space, Please let's be realistic in this matter, In South Africa you get Nigerians who infect South African ladies with HIV and they are dedicated to infect them, Oooh plse give me a break!!!!I rest my case on Nigerians'' - Aijaman - March 7, 2012 at 08:07

''May be that's because I don't see Europeans standing at every street corner selling drugs. May be it's because I don't see Europeans kidnapping under-aged girls, giving them drugs then forcing them into prostitution. May be it's because Europeans aren't running 419 scams. Need I go on? Ps: I don't have a problem with Chinese or Somalians either, know why?! 'Cause they make an honest living! That's why!''  Yolandè Rwaai - March 7, 2012 at 08

'' Drugs, murder, 419 scams, these are the only export prouct from Nigeria''      -  Ian - March 7, 2012 at 07:03

''Perhaps the Nigerian authorities should take a good look at the corruption that goes on with their emigration officials and the so called friendly business environment is not so friendly and equally corrupt with undisclosed commissions having to be paid etc. We won't even discuss the mobile phone and internet fraud's which are perpetrated by Nigerian Nationals in our country!!!!!''  -- Mike - March 7, 2012 at 06:58 Report comment

@OP

Evidently, this is a clear case of xenophobia. South Africans must have been nursing irrational fear and hatred for Nigerians. they link Nigerians to crime, drug trafficking and prostitution.

in any case, I personally feel they reserve every right to dictate any medical test they deem fit as a criteria for an entry clearance into their country- be it genotype test, dental check up certificate or whatever. However, I see no reason they should arbitrarily decide to deport Nigerians who have been granted entry clearance/visas sequel to satisfying the health conditionalities. it's just gross to punish people after they have met your side of the bargain and satisfied your stipulations.

as far as I'm concerned, the equation is not balanced yet.

125 - [28+56] = 41

so, Nigeria needs to deport 41 more!  grin grin grin

Nigeria isn't concerned about who loses if the diplomatic relations is severed. afterall, he that is down fears no fall.

I laugh in conc egba , Nigeria has way more to benefit if diplomatic relations become strained. Who said there will be loss of jobs , actually it will be the reverse , already the south african companies are suppressing indigenous companies which are ready to employ more Nigerians. Do you want to talk about revenue , south african companies make more than ten times in revenue what Nigerian companies make in southie. I'm more of a pacifist but in this situation I'll go the way of war.
