Horladortune: Please i want to know how long does it takes for a medical visa application takes to be processed out of their embassy?
Applying under medical is the same as tourist and the normal processing days remain 6-10days except if the embassy decides to add more days for verifications.

Just be patient, you will be contacted soon meanwhile get prepare for repatriation in case you are called to make payment as deadline for repatriation does not normally exceed 2-3days. You still have time to fly before xmas and your visa will start counting from the very day you arrive in SA, as for the delay in your application, I must be sincere to you I cannot tell the exact cause of that as different factors could be responsible.

No! In fact, I don't think they issue receipt for vaccination card. I am sure chelseabmw is referring to visa receipt in his post below. As for the yellow, all what you need to submit is the photocopy and not the original.

It is close to three months I submitted for my study permit but I have not heard from the embassy. Whenever we go to check for it they say it is not fully processed. Does it take this time? I am getting tired of the whole delay although I am meant to travel by December ending. What do I do because their numbers are not going instead.

Yea, we are saying the same thing..When you go for submission you will have to present the original of the vaccination card and the receipt..Once you submit your other document, the yellow card and the receipt will be given to you.You are to submit the photocopy but they will like to see the original first

Tourist visas remain 6-10days and maximum of 6weeks for study permit but some applications may exceed the normal processing days/weeks if the embassy renders such to be incomplete or if the verification process of some documents takes longer than expected.

Hello,

I am a Nigerian married to an American for several years. We have been living in Nigeria and Ghana for the past three plus years. Soon she is going to file a petition for me to get a Visa for the US so that she can go back home. We know that process will take about a year and she is quite fed up with Nigeria/Ghana...and so am I to be truthful. We have looked into other places that I could go without needing a visa, but those places are almost impossible to get to (barbados, etc). So we are now leaning towards spending the months waiting for our petition/visa to the states to go thru in a more conducive environment. I have read thru almost all the posts here, but they are mostly geared toward schooling/work permits, etc and we are seeking none of those. Just a stay in SA. She does not need a visa to go there, I do. I've never traveled anywhere else, so can you tell me if it will be hard or lengthy to get the Visa...also, ive read the requirements: having 300,000 in my account would be no problem...paying the fees; no problem...having a paid hotel reservation; no problem, etc. They say the visa they grant is for 3 months. So, if we wanted to stay longer...is it hard to get an extension? Would we be able to extend for another 3 months? Also, we want to secure an apartment once we get there. We would be able to pay the 6 months in advanced. Will landlords accept this from foreigners or do they like to rent to locals who are locally employed? We are thinking that Cape Town would prob be the best area to stay, but we wont have a car. Is it hard to get around without one? thanks for any input!!

You wife as an American citizen can visit SA without permit but for only 90days (3 months), since she will be traveling from Nigeria (WHO designated country) she must be in possession of a valid vaccination card (Yellow card) and she is required to have 2 black pages left on her passport for temporary permit sticker that will be issued to her upon arrival and stamping purpose respectively.

As for you, you will be granted visa as far as you can fulfill SA embassy requirements, it's not as hard as many people take it to be though you maybe not be lucky to get it processed within the 6-10days proposed processing time and vice versa. Extension is never a problem as long as you can file a reasonable excuse with documents for that when applying. You may not be able to rent an apartment directly with your name in SA due to some rules which are made in favour of their citizens but getting an apartment through/with southy who will make payment on your behalf won't be a problem as there are agents doing that for foreigners in SA and the payment system is not as hard as we have it in naija. You will get an apartment where you can pay every month, 3 months in advance or six months in advance. As for moving around, it's not advisable to buy a car since you won't stay long because cars are very expensive in SA (No tokunbo cars), they operate right-hand driving system with left highway passage and you may not be familiar with the system in order to save yourself of heavy traffic fines. I will advise you to consider Pretoria or Cape Town so that you won't experience heavy traffic when moving around as we have it in Lagos and Jo'burg. I hope this helps.

thanks for that great information. You said that I, the Nigerian citizen can apply for the extension with no problems, will that be the same for my American wife..since you said she will only be stamped for 90 days? Thanks again for your help. If not buying a car in Cape Town, do they have ample taxi's, city busses, etc?
Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by ayostacey: 5:53pm On Dec 08, 2012
one other thing...if we intend to stay for six months, but they only grant initial visa or stamp for 3 months, would it be risky to have our return ticket showing 6 months departure? in other words, will SA immigration question that?

Extension of tourist visas are usually granted based on cogent reasons. There are public taxis and buses everywhere.

If you do that, both of you will not be granted entry on arrival, it will look as if you guys already plan to over stay your visas. Let your return ticket date be between the validity of your visa even if you plan to extend your visas and ticket date can also be changed prior to the date of departure if you contact your airline either free or for a token.

It means your application for visa has been completely processed at SA Embassy and returned to Lagos Application Centre for collection. You can now go and collect your passport with or without visa but I pray you will be granted.
