It appears to be confusion but the Brainwashing they experience trains them to be Pathological Liars without them knowing it. JWs have no sense of Self Awareness. They don't know how they look on the outside. It is only what Watchtower tells them about how they look that they believe.

When you are being forced with fear, obligation and Guilt to accept doctrines without questioning them, you are not given room to sit down and carefully analyse the doctrines to see if it makes sense and thoroughly test them with the Bible.
