The father should buy the iphone for the boy and set parental lock on it. To ensure he doesn't go visit place he shouldnt be going to. He made a promise so he has to fulfil it.. the boy would do more than this in his academic studies knowing fully well his father would always get him a nice present. These days kids need motivations and there is no greater joy than seeing your child performing wonderfully well in academics

it is foolishness to promise a child a fone for perfoming well academically,talkless of an iphone..why dont u get him a wife too.train a child to know the benefits of academic excellence not to trade excellence for material things.

That term I came home with 2nd,and he sealed the agreement,this made me so happy and never dropped more than 4th till JSS2........

When I was younger, my dad told me he would buy me a BMX bicycle if I win a particular spelling bee competition, which I did. Lo and behold, my papa sly me sha, and it affected my morale and trust. Pls Dnt buy an iPhone for the child, instead buy him a reading android tab, or even a kindle android tab for reading , that looks cool with some games installed. What does he need an iPhone for, at primary one and he gets an iPhone, then primary six he might request for a wife or an aeroplanr, or even a diamond encrusted Rolex...

It is better not to promise a child, than to promise and fail. To him you are his god so you dare not fail. The issue in question is no longer the iPhone, but the fact that the boy motivated himself enough to achieve a great feat. He must be rewarded. But then the question arises, if you start to motivate by promise of reward, would he understand that its his responsibility to do well in school?. That's food for thought

Since he promised the boy a material reward, he should reward him as promised. Its would have been better he never promised the boy than to promise and fail. It will make the boy to perform even was than he was b4 the promise of reward.

Life is all about motivation....the father be-littled the boy, I guess. He can re-negotiate with the kid though, get him a laptop if he doesn't have one...or a high tech gadget....probably an android watch, hover board etc

Great indeed if truely the boy worked to earn the excellent scores. What the father needs to do is to capitalise on the boys academic effort either by maintaining the scores or by setting newer goals for the lad. He should buy books, set up a library, get him into practical fields and promise him more gifts such as laptops and take him on holidays. The father should ensure serious disciplinary measures that will prevent the boy from seeing himself as a papmered child but one which can be motivated by the parents to go greater.

The pupil form teacher might actually be the one in need of that phone operating from behind

This only proves one thing,we can be whatever we want to be once we set our goals and mind to it. The boy had an objective and did everything to fulfil it.

u are right. In this case the thought of getting an iphone propelled the boy to study harder than before. And now if the father should get him anything apart the iphone, then he's killed the boy's moral. It will have a long term effect on the boy but most people will not understand it.
