nwakibie3:
THE Presidency has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of shedding crocodile tears by declaring a mourning period for people killed in Plateau state, saying that even though more people were killed under the former ruling party, it never declared a mourning period.

A statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday, gave a list of killings under PDP which it said the party never mourned.

The statement said that it was sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau state over the weekend have been turned to an opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the PDP.

The PDP had on Wednesday declared seven days of mourning during which it said flags in its office will fly at half mast.

The presidency stated: “These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics.

“The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half-mast nationwide. But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls and may remain so for a long time to come, because Nigerians are politically discerning, and cannot be hoodwinked by cheap antics.

“A quick checklist of some savage and brutal killings in Nigeria during PDP rule, between 1999 and 2015, for which no national mourning was declared:

“November 20, 1999. Odi, in Bayelsa State, was invaded on orders of a PDP President. About 2,500 people killed. No national mourning.

“Between February and May 2000, about 5,000 people were killed during riots over Sharia law in different parts of the North. No national mourning.

“In 2001, hundreds of people, including the old, infirm, women and children were killed in Zaki Biam. No crocodile tears.

“Between September 7-12, 2001, Jos, Plateau State, erupted in internecine killings. Between 500 and 1,000 people were killed. Flags were not flown at half mast.

“In February 2004, at least 975 people were killed in Yelwa-Shendam, Plateau State. No mourning by the then ruling PDP.

“Between November 28 and 29, 2008, Jos was in flames again, with 381 deaths. No mourning.

“In 2010, 992 people killed in Jos. Mum was the word.

“In 2014 alone, according to Global Terrorism Index, at least 1,229 people were killed in the Middle Belt. No mourning.

“Boko Haram killings in PDP years were over 10,000. PDP flags were still fluttering proudly in the sky.

“Those who take pleasure in twisting statements from the Presidency may claim we are saying that many more people were killed under PDP than under President Muhammadu Buhari. It would be unconscionable to do so. The intendment of this statement is to show that wanton killings had been with us for awhile; this government is working towards enduring solutions; and should be given the opportunity to do so.

“Even a single soul is precious, and no man should take a life, which he cannot create. But when tragic situations as had happened in Plateau State occur, such should never be used to play crude politics. Those who are wont to do so should have change of hearts, or lose their very humanity.”

The biggest problem of our country is with the youths, males and females alike.

Look at them!

Every person commenting on this thread is equally playing politics with the dead.

Even though Mr Adesina has clearly explained himself these fools are falling over themselves to make cheap political statements.

Why this cheap hypocrisy from this PDP?

What is the meaning of flags at half mast?

What is the meaning of always playing politics with deaths when they didn't fare better when they were in power?

PDP should let other parties or pressure groups talk and let them continue to bury their heads in shame forever.

Well they know how gullible and fickle Nigerian youths are so they can feel free to continue pulling the dumbness cards of these Nigerians on nairaland.

Question:

In 16 years of power when did the PDP ever fly flags at half mast despite the death of over 20,000 Nigerians.

If you cannot answer this question then whatever politics you are playing with dead Nigerians will visit your own very family.

If a PDP presidential candidate was in power, it would be expedient and expected of him (as commander in chief of the armed forces) and his cabinet (not his political party) to channel all their resources towards, at least stop the killings from going on.

At the most, stop the killings and bringing those behind it to book.

PDP flying flags at half mast and declaring 7 days of mourning, is symbolic of their empathy with the Nigerian people and their willing to at least do whatever they can if they had the means to do so as a party.

The real question is, why the hell is the Media aide replying the harmless gesture of PDP, (which is a display of empathy) a weak opposition party, instead of devoting his time to empathizing with the Nigerian people and highlighting/emphasizing the tempo with which the Government is saving its people?

The same agencies that Femi Adesina, calls liars when they give statistics of the wrongs and hurt Nigerians suffer under President Buharis's government, is the same ones that he quoted to disparage the weak opposition, when they had a candidate in power.

In his foolishness and for lack of a productive role to play in this National crisis, he forgot that it is people who play roles in government and not the political party and lowered himself (and in effect his principal, whom a lot of people strongly believe is taking this crisis very lightly) by bandying figures of the deaths that took place in different administrations under the banner of PDP.

As though he meant to say, "bad as it is, we didnt have it as bad as it was in your time, so why are you now choosing to lower your flags as a party now, when you didnt do it then"?

At least we know that PDP flew their flags at halfmast, what did the APC/ACN/CPC/APGA/ANPP/AD do when they had the chance as opposition? That is the real hypocrisy here.......... undecided

In any case, wasn't it the same Presidency and APC that has been flashing pictures on the internet of President Buhari entering plane inside the rain to travel to jos, to show his own empathy/sympathy towards the killings, only for the killings to restart in Bukuru and Gada biu, immediately after he left, with 6 youth corpers murdered already.

Which means he just went to take selfie in jos, or what else did he go to do? And you are still talking there........ angry

This is why the youths in Nigeria will never have any modicum if Intelligence in proper analysis.

Adesina never supported the killings, neither did he do a comparison per se.

He was simply showing the hypocrisy of PDP as they began to play politics with these present killings when they never showed any sign of compassion or pain during their era.

Suddenly they have now developed compassion out of nowhere.

Killings in Nigeria have always been there even from the days before obasanjo and it simply shows the levels intolerance has gotten to in our society. We no longer identify as one Nigeria but as different people or locations in Nigeria. We play ethnic politics and do not share or develop national ideals. We do not even play locational politics but strictly ethnic inclined. That is not democracy.

Those of you who cannot see beyond your ethnic hatred towards this administration are also a major part of the problems this nation has which is why a lot of you instead of critically considering what adesina is passing across you rather see from your bigoted lenses and nothing more.

By the way I am Yoruba and do not play ethnic games. If you have good to offer regardless of where you are from in Nigeria then offer it. I think its high time we all stopped this ethnicity nonsense and began living as one people and one nation. We have had enough bigotery as a nation to last many centuries.

We all need to consciously stop the collective rape of our compassion and strength in diversity we always employ on social media. Its sad to see .

PDP is sick and can fly black flaga in their offices for all I care.

Issuing such a statement was insenstitive. It was easier to ignore the callous and hypocritical PDP. Even easier to score a point with Nigerians by declaring the mourning and undercutting PDP tactics. That is assuming that the Apc cared about Nigerians. Did you see how much goodwill they got for declaring June 12 a national holiday? Similar goodwill would have flowed his way had this govt even as little as recognised the killings and declared national mourning. Using the occassion to declare war against domestic insurgency and a turning point.

But they missed the opportunity and are now measuring dick size with pdp. Who are their advisers sef?

If flying a flag at half mast is in sync with the mood of the people, like it truly is now, then APC missed the chance when they had it (now and back then it as an opposition party) and should not dictate to the people how to feel when they have just witnessed genocide. The best he could have done was let the people mourn in peace and wallow in regret for voting a govt that does not care. Not rubbing our noses in it like he has done.
