I apologize for the long post... So the thing is, I am 22 years old currently in 200 level. My performance is very poor, in fact I'm currently on probation(I'm suppose to be in 300 level by now) and that's not because I'm not intelligent or I'm dull o. it's just that i don't show commitment towards my studies because I've completely lost interest in the course I'm currently studying because of its calculation aspect. I hate calculations a lot. Let me say, I'm more of a theory person. I have tried applying for change of course but i was denied maybe because of my poor performance. My Father doesn't know anything about this. "no issues at all Daddy, my result is good", my response whenever he asked me about my result.

So i have finally decided to apply for withdrawal from my current school to register and sit for jamb again. This time i will apply for a course in a different institution. This course in question is a course I've wanted to study long ago but my current school don't offer it. My friend studies it and I've done research on the course my self. I'm very sure i can do it this time.

Now i don't even know how to approach my father with this. I know I've fvcked up big time. The man will be so so annoyed and disappointed in me but i can't continue like this, i want to get things on track, i want to fix my life and start afresh. Right now I'm just confused and frustrated. Nairalanders, i will need your advice and suggestions. Please what's your take on this?
You don't need to withdraw to attempt JAMB again. It seems you are here to seek an easy way out to be a dropout.
And what guarantee do you have to secure that dream course of yours?
I'm guessing it's Law. Just a Guess.
It was everywhere how a lady who scored above 300 in JAMB couldn't secure admission in her course of choice.
And can you give us a breakdown of your SSCE result?

My 1kobo: Be in the University and attempt another JAMB.

the earlier the better, stop forcing yourself on a course of areas in life that you do not have a passion for and its very clear you will not excel in it...tell your Dad the truth now, though it will hurt but the two of you will be better for it later, otherwise deceit will keep haunting you...face it boldly bro nothing de happen and you are being a realist i salute you!

I understand your plight bro and the issue you gonna have with your dad, but my advice is this, let the admission click first before you tell your dad anything, I mean the admission of the new course and new school u apply too, after they have giving u admission to study your desired course, then you go home sit your dad down take one elderly man with u or a respected church member if you are a Christian, explain to your dad everything and the new move you have make, am very sure he will be happy with you that you are back in school not just a drop out....God bless

I'm in a position to help you secure admission free of charge. Tell me the course you want to go for so that I can advise you accordingly.

my advice for you is this, erase every plan of withdrawing from the institution, start paying a high level of attention to the course you are studying now, try and make friends with people that can encourage and boost your academic performance. believe me you will see your self graduating at last and once you have a job, all this CGPA, and probation of a thing will b history.

Sit your papa down face to face, mano a mano and tell him you fvcked up big time. Prostrate and apologise to him.

Tell him you willing to start afresh. Finally, promise him you graduating with a first class if given a second chance.

DON'T TELL HIM OVER THE PHONE!

You don't sit for JAMB rather you sit for UMTE. JAMB is a body that regulates exam.

Your dad may be angry, disappointed, mad, but certainly won't disown or kill you. Call him, tell him everything and the struggles you have endured all this while. Trust me, after the initial tantrums he may put up, eventually he will support and assist you. Just be sure your decision is something you are ready to commit to.

Sometimes the greatest decisions requires the strongest will.

Not sometimes, most times but then inspire your day and possibly your hustling spirit with this

Yes. You've wasted enough time already. Spending more years and money getting a pass in a course that you hate is foolish. That is if you even graduate. Where you are now, one small slip and you're expelled.

If I were to be your dad, I will be angry; not because you are not doing well nor because you don't like the course; but because you've been lying to me all this time. It will be so difficult for me to trust you again. When you rewrite Jamb and regain admission elsewhere, how do I know whether you are now doing well or whether you are deceiving me once again and wasting more of my money? How can I accept your stated reason for failing when you've established that you lie to me on important things?

In your apology to your father, try to address how you are going to be more open and trustworthy in future and how he can monitor your results personally to allay his fears; at least partially.

Good luck. And don't lie to your father in future. The consequences of the lie will always be far worse than the consequences of telling the truth.

Don't withdraw yet nor let the cat out to your dad, first thing first buy a Jamb form seat for the desired school and course when you ve secured adminision into the desired course and school, before you can walk up to your dad and open up, explain to him your decision and how committed you're willing to make him proud in the desired course. Instead of withdrawal and sitting back at home and not been sure of a guaranteed admission into your desired course of choice. Don't be in a rush.

No matter the choice of course you want to study you will definitely do some calculations as a borrowed course at your first year

You don't run away from problems rather you face the challenges and struggle to scale through!!!

My opinion though

Omo,don't make a decision that will make your father develop high blood pressure and die prematurely... Don't waste another years seeking for fresh admission.

I was admitted into a course I hated and impassionate about,in my 300level I developed interest, worked harder and still graduated with a nice grade.
I however made a switch in my post graduate level...
My advised for you is to work hard and graduate first...then make a switch to your area of interest... You are still young.

It appears you spent a total of 8 years in the University trying to come out with good grades

Please can you confirm how many years you spent in the University in total? I don't want to assume.

so after paying acceptance fee and school fees plus so many other fees you want to leave it and start a fresh abi?, do u guys even pity your parents at all? my advice for you is to finish your course and get that degree even if it is a third class, then apply for your dream course.
negative. I don't agree with you bevause in the end, all those wasted monies are inconsequential when the result is poor and no morale to study the course anymore. I faced a far worse similar situation and had to drop out at 500L- imagine the money and time I've invested!!

now I'm doing another 4 yr course I love in another school and in 200L currently with a banging GP and by my calculations, I'd be eligible to serve after graduation. so I believe the risk will payoff for me because most of my mates in school back then angrily graduated with 3rd class and pass which I couldn't settle with.

and yes I'm currently sorting my school bills out myself since I have a side hustle. and I haven't told my dad yet but I will, not because I'm scared since he doesn't pay my bills anymore, but I wanna finish this session B4 breaking the news. so I'd advise him to write jamb for another sch ASAP since he's still young at 22, scheme his dad for admission bills before breaking the news.

the truth is u will end up meeting things that has to do with calculation in d future, even these life is a calculated risk ,and about sitting for another jamb,it depends on how financially bouyant your parents are,a father who is working day and night to see u graduate after 2 yrs,he will be disappointed to hear u tell him u want to sit for another jamb, well if i were u i will finish what i started, after all what gives u the assurance dat u will gain admission or given dat course u like, going to school to study a course does not mean u will end up practiseing it or making it ur source of income,

Don't ever go for a course you don't like and know nothing about; just for the sake of securing admission for whatever reason. The decision of which course to study has a lifetime effect. That decision you make in haste puts your future studies prospect, your future career and very often, your future happiness at stake.

After 4years in the university i couldn't graduate cos of carry overs and I'm about to apply 4 jamb this year cos i won't allow this first degree unfulfillment deter me from pursuing my dreams.

If i had quickly notice i won't graduate from 300 level wen my carry over problems started, i would have fill another school with another course and today i would have been in my 300 level but i couldn't rather i ended up wasting more 3years hoping i will write and pass my carryovers and upto this moment I'm still at home hoping God will put a smile on my face with another admission this year.

Just go ahead and inform ur parents. It wasn't easy for me to let mine know my predicament too but i had to man up and tell them and it ended it up they didn't kill me but only got dissapointed however, today they are willing to still support me through school and see me graduate. I'm not dull so are other people with carryovers, it's juet a matter of one issue or another that mar us into such mess. It's well!
