LET ME START BY ASKING U THE COURSE U STUDYING AT THE MOMENT AND THE ONE U INTEND TO APPLY? IF I WERE U CHANGING INSTITUTION WILL NOT BE THE BEST OPTION BUT RATHER CHANGING THE COURSE. SINCE U NOT GUD IN CALCULATION I WILL ADVICE U GO FOR GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION I BET U IS ONE OF THE COURSE IN SCIENCE WITHOUT MUCH CALCULATION. FINALLY, LETTIN UR PARENT KNW UR SITUATION NOW IS NOT A WISE THING. JUST B A MAN ACCEPT UR FAILURES IN GUD FAITH BY WRITING ANOTHER JAMB APPLYING GEOGRAPHY EDU THAT IS IF U ARE IN SCIENCES. PICK UP THE CHALENGE AND TELL URCEF U CAN DO BETTER. AT THE END WITH MORE FOCUS U WIL EXCEL AND LATER UR PARENT WIL B PROUD OF U. DONOT THINK OF THE YEARS U WIL B SPENDIN IN UNIVERSITY BUT HOW WELL U FINISH IT OFF

Your dad may be angry, disappointed, mad, but certainly won't disown or kill you. Call him, tell him everything and the struggles you have endured all this while. Trust me, after the initial tantrums he may put up, eventually he will support and assist you. Just be sure your decision is something you are ready to commit to.

Sometimes the greatest decisions requires the strongest will.

Na Education for this country you wan kiiyaslf ontop?

Anyways, your first fukup na to withdraw without writing jamb and securing another admission already.... I don't know the kind of parents you have but it would be a little tolerable for them if you had written jamb already and have scored enough for your course of choice before telling them.
Telling them now that you don't like the course they have been paying for, and ontop that, you also withdrew without telling them... Odikwa risky.

If you can continue with the present course, then write jamb before confronting your parents, that'd be better.

All the best.

I was once in ur shoe, I was offer and engineering course knowing fully that I had study food science in polytechnic and we engage in few calculations that I can still push on with hard work. But when I got to university where I started to notice that we are to engage in more calculations, ELECT ELECT, CIVIL ENG, MECHANICAL, and sort, then I realize I can’t make a good CGPA at the end of my studies if only I remain in the dept.. though my 100l result was still acceptable and I decided to cross back to 200l when we were preparing for 300l,
I got many friends advising me that I am stil better than 30% of the class that I should remain in the dept and endure it but then I took the decision and cross back to 200l.. from there I love the dept and faculty I cross to and I was perfectly okay and satisfied with my journey till this moment.. I graduated last year and will be going for my service this year March..

My sincere advice is for you to set your goal..
by making findings probably if u can skip a year and start from 200l in another dept in the same institution.. then execute your plans and calculate what u might need to meet atleast 2nd class lower or possibly if u can make 2.1..
But then if it won’t be possible my brother discuss it with ur family, starting with anyone u are more closer to, be it ur brother, mum, sister or dad.. though there is no employment opportunity in Nigeria as we might hope for but still opportunities are bound to come any moment in life..
try and learn a handiwork too so as to balance what our economic require..
May God lead you through my brother

This was exactly what I did three years ago. I go through my mum and my dad reason with me and now I am doing the course of my choice in a comfortable institution that I am able to learn and do other job while I learn, now in 300L.
ShenTeh:
A lot of people today who graduated with very poor class of degrees wish they started again.

It takes courage to start all over. But get your JAMB result and another admission first before you quit this one, else you may never continue with university education.

As for dad, mum is still you best channel. Mothers have a weakness around their children and a strength around their hubbies. Talk to mum if you still have one.

Otherwise, just edit this post a little and forward it to him. First tell him you are seeking advise for your very good friend. When he's done advising. Tell him very slowly that your friend is you and that you are sorry because you trully never want to disappoint him. He'll come around.

Good luck.

I apologize for the long post... So the thing is, I am 22 years old currently in 200 level. My performance is very poor, in fact I'm currently on probation(I'm suppose to be in 300 level by now) and that's not because I'm not intelligent or I'm dull o. it's just that i don't show commitment towards my studies because I've completely lost interest in the course I'm currently studying because of its calculation aspect. I hate calculations a lot. Let me say, I'm more of a theory person. I have tried applying for change of course but i was denied maybe because of my poor performance. My Father doesn't know anything about this. "no issues at all Daddy, my result is good", my response whenever he asked me about my result.

So i have finally decided to apply for withdrawal from my current school to register and sit for jamb again. This time i will apply for a course in a different institution. This course in question is a course I've wanted to study long ago but my current school don't offer it. My friend studies it and I've done research on the course my self. I'm very sure i can do it this time.

Now i don't even know how to approach my father with this. I know I've fvcked up big time. The man will be so so annoyed and disappointed in me but i can't continue like this, i want to get things on track, i want to fix my life and start afresh. Right now I'm just confused and frustrated. Nairalanders, i will need your advice and suggestions. Please what's your take on this?

Dude pls write jamb again

My yonger brother had the same issue (ended up in physics), my biggest regret is not following up on our alignment of writing jamb again.

There was this one time i had to enduring him crying on the phone in his 400 level after the umpteenth carry over/missing script.

Of all the kids in my family, he is the only one of us that cleared his waec and Jamb in one sitting, so we know he is smart.

We struggle the most when we find ourselves doing what we are not design to do by God.

Just make sure u have an admission in your dream course before ending the current.

Am glad that you have discovered that you can't cope at thus early stage

When you get home, meet with your dad and discuss with him, if he is the one you are free with

If you are free with your mum, meet her in private and tell her what you have been passing through, she will advise you on how to present it to dad

But assure them of your good conduct always and promise them of a good grade to make up for the lost years

Forget about how others will react, you owe them no explanation

I'll advise you not to withdraw. You can perform better. Just make sure you stay focus and stop complaining because they kill alot. Move with those that understand the topics you are taught in class and ask them to teach you. You still have the privilege to get good grades before graduation. I was once in your shoe but my problem then was financial, i spoke to myself that i can do it and it was surprising. i thank God today.

You are still young Darling, so you can still make it. Don't tell your dad yet, I believe you can buy the jamb form from your savings? write the exam and the follow ups, get the admission on your desired course before you can withdraw and then you can talk to your Dad. I wish you well.
