Lol. Stop lying. Many dentists are big boys. You can never see an unemployed dentist in Nigeria and all Dentists in Nigeria earn above 250k (both in the government and private sector). For some in the private sector, their package also comes with accommodation.

But there are many unemployed pharmacists in Nigeria. Some will end up as salesperson in chemist shop. Some will end up as sales rep for drug companies and their pay is 100k or 120k. If it too much, 150k. Only a very few can set up their own patent pharmacy shop. I see pharmacists doing sales boy and salesgirl in pharmacy shops in Nigeria and I just shake my head. Infact, many pharmacy shops no longer employ pharmacists. They just employ auxillary nurses and teach them drug dosing.

Even in government hospitals, Dentists earn more than pharmacists.

Lol. Get ur facts right. A full pharmacist can not earn less than 200k in nigeria. Thr is difference bw locum job nd normal job. Most pharmacists work in two places. Main job pay like 200k, locum job 100-150k. You have no idea. Most pharmacists work from 8-2pm in for 200k, then locum 4-9pm for anoda 100-150k

A dentist friend of mine works in a government hospital and in a private clinic. Another works in govt and owns his private dental clinic

Nothing like unemployed pharmacist in nigeria. Nd a pharmacist can never work in a chemist shop. Or maybe u don't know the difference bw a pharmacy and a chemist. In Nigeria, u can't compare pharmacy nd dentistry, they are way apart.

Lol. Then you don't really know your profession. There are many unemployed pharmacists in Nigeria. Pharmacists are produced in almost every university in this country such that supply of pharmacists has exceeded demand in the labour market.

If you really want to know the difference between pharmacy and Dentistry in Nigeria, compare a dentist and a pharmacist both of who finished nysc at the same time. Different job offers will be waiting for the dentist as he finishes nysc with a pay not less than 200k (a fresh dentist from nysc). The pharmacist will take time to get a job and if he does, the pay is usually between 80k to 120k.

See I have dentists and pharmacists as friends. in government jobs, dentists earn higher than pharmacists. In private jobs, dentists earn higher than pharmacists!

In public service I agree, but in private practice pharmacists earn way higher. I'm just 3yrs nd I have 2 branches nd eyeing a 3rd. Do u know how much each branch make a day? Stop being in denial pls. I ve never seen any reason to see a dentist in my life neither any member of my family. Even if a dentist earns 2m a month, he can't earn more than many pharmacists in private practice

Irrua specialist teaching hospital. Dats whr I did my internship. Stop talking to make ur profession more lucrative. Many doctors I did internship with don't see my back today. Some plainly told me dey wished dey studied pharmacy. If u want to stay in nigeria, pharmacy is the go to course. But if ur planning on relocating, u can go for Dentistry. When u talk abt money in health profession nd in private practice, leave it to pharmacists. QED

First, I am not a dentist. I am not even in the health sector. I only have friends who are Dentists and pharmacists. We all went to the same university.

You are blabbing about yourself. Do you know how many pharmacists we have in this country? You talked about how you are doing well. Should I count the number of pharmacists I know that are not doing well? That you are doing well doesn't mean pharmacy is better than Dentistry. You said many doctors you did internship with don't see your back today. So, you don't know that are so many doctors in this country that did internship at the same time you did yours that you can't see their back today?

Your arguments are still baseless. How many pharmacists in Nigeria that are 3 years post graduation that own their pharmacy stores? That you own your own pharamacy store doesn't mean pharmacy is better than Dentistry in Nigeria. Are there no pharmacists that are working for peanuts?

Let me give you an example! I did a Google search and I found out there are about 25,000 pharmacists in Nigeria while there are about 1400 dentists in Nigeria. If out of the 25,000 pharmacists in Nigeria, let's say 10,000 are really doing well (getting money from pharamacy and no where else) and out of the 1400 dentists in Nigeria, 1000 of them are really doing well (getting money from Dentistry alone), which profession do you think is fairing better.

My point is that because you are doing well as a Pharmacist doesn't mean other pharmacists are doing well. I know of pharmacists that earn 120k monthly working for drug companies. I do not know of any dentist that earns below 250k in private practice. (All of us finished school at the same time). Is it all pharmacists in Nigeria that own their pharmacy stores?

And you think there are no dentists who own their own dental practice that make more money than you make?

You are yet to see a pharmacist in the past 4 months? Lol. Okay, please send me an email so I can link you up with a Pharmacist I know that earns 100k from his present work (it means you must be willing to pay higher than 100k)

The best answer here:

Guy , study pharmacy first after some years of work experience then go back and study Dentistry

Earn as a pharmacist and a dental doctor.
If you’re not satisfied then go back and study medicine it’s just 2-3years after having bds

Oleee!

I honestly hope so...!

The question is about demand! How many Nigerians (Common Nigerians) visit dental clinics??!

From my little research, the demand for dental care in Naija is ridiculously and unusually low!

Might be a blessing that few people actually study it!

The reason why there few people studying dentistry is because of the regulated quota given by MDCN to these colleges.
There are only 14 Dental schools in nigeria currently and most are only permitted to admit 10-15 students per year, with the exception of unilag and OAU, that are able to admit more.

So if there are only a few dentists produced yearly, it is quite an advantage, considering the ratio of Dental doctors to the population, there is no oversaturation in the dental industry compared to others.

Op, make your decision based on Your passion, both professions are lucrative, you wouldn't want to spend the rest of your life doing something you don't enjoy.

Peace ✌️

Is that even a serious question??! Lol! grin

Every course or career's lucrativeness is subject to the intelligence and business acumen of the practitioner!

There are poor pharmacists and rich dentists... And there are wealthy pharmacists and wretched dentists!

The sole truth is that Pharmacists are far more in-demand than Dentists in Nigeria and most parts of the world!

Lollll! Which parts of the world, dey place, check the internet dear sir, Dentists( General dentists and specialist dentists) are consistency among the highest paying 5-10 jobs in the world, the chiefs of medical practice are Doctors and Dentists, MBBS_BDS🔥

Medicine. They pay for Medical doctors is better than pharmacists. And as a medical doctor, it is easier for you to relocate to western countries (especially UK)

Is money the only reason you want to study medicine? Medical doctors generally earn more than pharmacists. That's all I can tell you.

If you are really looking for money, go learn IT/tech jobs.
