Good evening Nairalanders

I write to seek your view on My current situation.

I am a final year student in one of the best Federal university in Nigeria(Name withheld) and certainly, will be graduating with a second class upper within the 4 point range CGPA.( I was on a first class cgpa But my cgpa was slashed no thanks to my department I was a victim as well as others)

My worry is, I will be 26 years when i eventually write my final paper as a student then come service(NYSC) by then 27 max after service. No thanks to COVID- 19 pandemic and ASUU which engulfed my chances of graduating below the 26 age bracket.

In light of the above, Do I stand a chance of securing a graduate trainee position in top multinational organization requesting for 2.1 and above within the age bracket of 26 and below post NYSC,Given that after my service I will be 27.

Ps:I am an accounting student and I intend to start my ICAN exam during service.

My current CGPA is 4.20 ,resuming for my final year come July this year.

Better go and do affidavit oga.

Reduce your age. Stay here and be asking questions

I am 22 ,,but currently serving at Edo state ,,I read economics and graduated with second class upper ...I am confused as you are too...I started my NYSC service April 2023 ..batch A stream 2...so am still new on d khaki..... But mehhn always thinking of life after NYSC...what to do? I dont even have any money to start any business, for those advising someone to start business, I only have basic computer skills like ms word and d rest

Buy Gmat and SHL textbooks. And be practicing the questions and answers. Study it daily. That's all. You have age on your side and you will thank me for this advice.

I clearly understand you about having financial constraints. I do not know so much about you too but there are some viable options that you can explore.

At the moment, I am preparing to write sit for General GRE. But I have not even registered yet cos my registration money is not complete yet. I have all the necessary details and how to go about it. One of my friends will be leaving by August to the US on a fully funded scholarship all thanks to a high GRE score. Where there is a will, there will be a way broh

While I am gradually gathering 210,000 naira for the exam, I savage the time to prepare well for the exam. Knowing how difficult it is to raise that amount of money, I would not just write for writing sake. I have to obtain a high score too. GRE score is valid for 5 years. I have a high 4 point CGPA just like you so that gives some edge

Package your final year project well because it will also help you. If you have a supportive family, explore the option and make sure you save something from NYSC for this purpose.

Where there is a will there will be a way

Thank bro. But the issue of leaving Nigeria is the finance which I don’t have access to.

One other alternative would be a scholarship but I don’t have much information on how to go about it especially the free scholarship.

While some required I am done with my first degree before applying and other processes.

What course did your friend study boss?
Is it also true that most US scholarships are for those who studied STEM courses as first degrees?

Good day sir. Thank you u so much for your advice and workout plan for me..May God increase your wisdom..

Sir,as per your write up,I will appreciate it if you can help me with the pdf files of Shl and GMAT test question and answers so I can start practicing them. Here is my gmail for the pdf files. covenantajolore@gmail.com.

As person the situational judgement question what ways can u suggest for me to go about practicing this types of questions.

Jesusmylord:
You did the right course especially when you put the Nigerian labour market into consideration. It's easier to get a job if you are an accounting graduate and it’s going to be a plus for you if you have ICAN before you finished your NYSC.

To answer your question, Do I stand a chance of securing a graduate trainee position in a top multinational organization requesting for 2.1 and above within the age bracket of 26 and below post-NYSC, Given that after my service I will be 27?

Multinational organization, 27 years after NYSC, and 2:1.
Yes, PWC
will be your best bet.

The following are my guides for you:
1. Endeavour that your PPA during the NYSC is a place where you have time for yourself. The best places could be Ministries and Secretariats (LGA, State, or Federal).
2. Draw a realistic timetable for your ICAN exam and aptitude Test. Maybe 3 days for ICAN and 2 days for aptitude test preparation/practice in a week. PWC uses SHL format, I can send you pdf files if you don’t mind. Also, you need to practice situational judgment questions.
3. Work on your presentation skills and develop your skills on how to work in a team. You will need these skills during an assessment centre after you scale through the stage of the aptitude test.
4. Start what I said above early into your service year. The quality of your life you will get after NYSC is directly proportional to the time you invested preparing during the NYSC.
5. NYSC is not time to play away your time but it's an avenue to strategies how your future will be. Please mingle well with people, and socialize, but don't let anything take away your 5 days of studying for your ICAN and aptitude test from you.
6. Save some portion of your NYSC allowance, I believe by the 9th month you should be able to pay for the ICAN exam yourself.
7. Don't underestimate anyone during the service year. Lest of people you don't expect might be the ones to give you the link to climb the ladder to the top.
8. Be prayerful. Nothing is certain in this life. Apart from your sound academic performance, and the skills your developed, you need a bit of grace (luck) to achieve your goals and dreams.
9. Finally, “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy (Romans 9:16).” Again, pray for grace and mercy. You need them in your journey in life.

I wish you the best in the remaining time of your undergraduate studies, service year, and journey in life.

I understand your plight here but truth been told degrees might make you rich but skills certainly can make you richer, there are many graduates who are out there depending on their certificates to give them jobs unfortunately has found non in fact someone with good skills when expanding can employ a graduate to work for him or her. Bottom line is that aside your degrees a good skill either online or offline can make you live the life you always dream of. Think about it, no one became a billionaire through salary alone.

Now there is a platform which allows you to learn multiple skills it is really nice and have helped me alot. One good thing about online skills is that it takes less of your time and if consistent it is going to be paying you massively
