Ibime: The PS is unwell. Unfortunately, the victims of this id**tic policy will be kids from lower middle class and poorer backgrounds who need the accelerated push more. Terence Tao met Erdos at age 10 in 1985. He scored 760 on the Math Section of the SAT at just 8. The PS does have a point about maturity, but the government, civil society, and corporate Nigeria should provide better support for child prodigies; rather than actively scuttle their intellectual development. It's not like they're too many or it'd cost too much. Not to mention, any investment in these actual bundles of joy will pay for itself many times over. -Lord 2 Likes |

First they should ban schools from using higher class books to teach pupils in a particular class. Like example schools now use primary 2 textbooks to teach those in primary one and so on. This needs to stop |

TheGoodJoe: Thank you!!! Growing up, I was home schooled at first and then went to Kindergarten 1&2. When I was in Kindergaten 2, the Headmistress told my parents that taking me to KG 3 would be a waste of time and that's how I had double promotion to Primary 1. I was so tiny but they acknowledged my mental capacity. 1 Like |

So we have this calibre of person in the Ministry of Education but Buhari ended up appointing Adamu Adamu - a man with zero knowledge about education as Minister of Education. May God help us in this country! 1 Like |

CondenseMilk:And who determined the right age ? By what method? People just wake up and think if an idea appeals to them everyone must comply If an eight year old can develop Whatsapp, he should be held back If he can do A level mathematics he should be punished? But we would have no problem if it was a football prodigy? Or if he can break 100 metres world record at 14? Thinking which is the purpose of education should enable us to realize that there is no one rule for all human beings. If a child can write computer code, or do things beyond his age he should not be punished. Some kids already own companies and employ people at age 15 years So if a 12 year old is doing university level mathematics He should be made to sit at home for 4 years doing what? |

Education is like sports to some parents. It looks like they use their children as tools in their competitive journey against others. Many times those they seem to compete against are only minding their own businesses and living their lifes. God help Nigeria. May the Lord give us the overhaul we desperately need. PonziHater |

The bottom line and cause of all these is because there is No Job. Most parent fast track their ward so as to limit the time they pay the fees of that child. If there is job and money is coming, most parents would want their ward(s) to go through the planned curriculum. The Nigerian educational system is getting wallowed in the mire. You expect malpractice to be eradicated but there is no available jobs to absorb the graduate that Nigeria universities produce year in/out. How much do you think an average Nigeria graduate earn monthly (especially those in the private secondary schools)? How much is minimum wage (some states are yet to implement)? How much is fuel? How is the economy? The average Nigeria graduate can only cope from the black market of the educational system and that is aiding malpractices that will fetch him/her more funds. As long as Unemployment thrive in Nigeria settings, malpractices and corruption cannot be minimize. An old man once told me that the beautiful once are not yet born because the ugly ones refuse to die. |
