Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello says she finds it disrespectful when younger people call her by her first name.


She also revealed that it is irritating for young people to greet her with a ‘Hi’ and wave at her.

The thespian spoke in a recent episode of the Me, Her And Everything Else podcast.


She, however, acknowledged the disparity between cultures around the world, stating that she knows how cultures and upbringings contribute to how people greet. She then added that she’d rather be called “Ma’am,” than Shaffy.

On how she handles young people who call her by her name, Bello said, “Usually my response is simple and I say it with love, I pull them close and I tell them ‘you haven’t earned the right to call me by my name, I have a child as old as you are. Even if I didn’t have children you haven’t earned the right, and you would never earn the right at your age to call me my name.”

I honestly think that the head of any young one who doesn't call her own mother by name but calling her by name should be examined. This is an accomplished elder in the world of theatre.

She's exceptionally brilliant and talented! I am not surprised that she's this modest yet strict.

Anyways, since youngies make money at an early age these days, and the parents that are supposed to mentor them, look up to them for handouts, the resultant effect will be truancy.


Also, when a young girl start riding her father's age mates and/or her elder brother's age mates d!cks, they begin to feel fly.

Western influence, yes but culturally many of their tribes are not keen on this respect thing regarding calling of names as some Nigerians are. I come from Imo state and I personally can't call or address someone from my place who is about 6 years and above older than me by their first name, I have to add Dede (for males) or Dada (for females).
