What goes around comes around. As much as I am not particularly in support of Biafra, those that enjoyed the killing of IPOB protesters last time, shouldn't be afraid to hit the streets. Do it for your beloved Nigeria.

Please take note: It is not Lagos Police, it is the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos that said so. The Federal Government controls the police. If it was Lagos State's police I believe they will understand the meaning of freedom, fundamental human rights and democracy.

Forget that crap and stop daydreaming.

My man who said PDP is an option? My take is that since PDP evil as they were could allow this useless propagandist party to flourish when they were in opposition why not do the same for others? Why must we play politics with a vengeance?

The criminals who will hijack the protest are police & their area fathers. If not true let the police provide security on that day.

So how does opposition flourish?
Is it by sabotaging the efforts of the incumbent?
Is it by blowing up the source of the nation's income? Is it by threatening secession?
Two wrongs never make a right.

Everyone who feels agreived has a right to march/protest over whatever they feel is wrong with the country. The job of the police is to make sure such protest is safe and does not break the laws

This thread is not about who supports the protest or not but about the police telling people they cant protest which is silly

Mr Commissioner of Police, how much is your salary? This recession is also affecting you. What you should do is to ensure that you provide enough policemen to protect the protesters and stop any criminal from hijacking the protest instead of you saying you will stop the protest in Lagos. Are you for good governance or you are just towing the line of your boss. Tu-Face Idibia means well for the country. He is embarking on a peaceful protest.

This was their plan all along. To cancel the protest using one excuse or the other. Istandwithbuhari protesters will not have hoodlums and miscreants,it's the istandagainstbuhari that will have them.

Even if Buhari manages to get to 2019, people will protest with their voters cards and unless he rigs the elections and confirms he is the lawbreaking, corrupt tyrant we know he is, he will never smell the presidency again.

It's better they vote him out. Any protest leading to chants of #BuhariMustGo is an avenue and recipe for disaster. During the 2012 Subsidy protests, everything was fine until some started chanting Regime Change, immediately the armoured personnel carriers rolled in.

Vote him out in 2019 simple and short, everybody knows there's suffering in the land, God help us.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni on Wednesday said he will not allow the planned protest against the Federal Government slated for February 5 to hold in the state.

Popular musician, TuFace Idibia who joined the call for protest by some concerned Nigerians over the state of the nation, had used his social media platforms to appeal to his supporters to join the movement.

But Owoseni, who had earlier stated that there was no official request from the protesters notifying security agencies of their plan, said Wednesday that intelligence report indicates that criminals might hijack the process.

According to the police chief, the command wasn’t ready for that kind of demonstration and as such would not allow it to hold

He said no matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public, who may wish to go about their Lawful duty.

Owoseni said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest. And as such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos. We know that Tuface do not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand.”

At a press conference held earlier in the week, Owoseni said: “The Civil Society had said that they do not need police permission to carry out any peaceful protest, but they should also be aware that there might be those who share an opposing view. This set of persons may want to disrupt the peaceful demonstration and would want to attack demonstrators.

“This is why we advise individuals or group of persons who may wish to embark on civil demonstration to inform the police so that adequate security arrangement would be provided.”

The police have no powers banning a peaceful demonstration. No such powers were granted the police.

This same matter had been trashed in our judicial system so enough legal precedents abound.

Also the excuse of hoodlums hijacking the peaceful protest is not an excuse, actually, it is the duty and mandate of the police to provide protection for the protesters.

Using that as an excuse is unprofessional and disgraceful on the part of the Lagos police hierarchy.

These uniform thugs won't stop showing their illiteracy and unprofessionalism.

They always give the impression they are meant to protect the government, not the law and Nigerians.
